Sometimes I wish to bury my thoughts, myself, the weight of my burden. And so I do. I bury these things that I can’t say or talk about. I take them and bury them deep within myself. The only problem is that sometimes things can wash up. The sea of sadness I dwell inside will sometimes uncovers all the secrets that I try desperately to hide away.

weaving a basket. Something people have done throughout the centuries in ancient cultures, but people still do it today? is it really that great or are they uncultured or uncivilized? What made some cultures ahead of others? People pay millions of dollars for hand woven stuff so they might actually be ahead of us all.

She wanted to borrow my trunk. That led to a conversation and a job offer in China. Do I want to go to China? All expenses paid? Of course! All because of a trunk sitting unused in my shed.

Champagne–Mozart, Dittersdorf–I’m telling students that these pieces are not profound but rather like very fine champagne. Bubbly, cheerful, celebratory.

I see a glimmer of hope that my life after she retires will still be vibrant, useful, and comfortable. I have been so afraid that I will be put to pasture at that point. And not have enough money to travel and enjoy life.

My estate will be very small. The biggest thing will be to determine the fate of my instruments and my music. But I don’t really care. Whatever happens, happens.

My father always carved the turkey at the table. It was such a beautiful sight, to see this wonderfully cooked turkey, bursting with stuffing, as he went around the table and carved the meat that everyone wanted. I miss him.

The fireplace is the center of the home, the hogar! I love to sit in front of the fireplace, especially this time of year, and read and enjoy the silence and solitude. Most often though, there are lots of people and noise and laughter and that is okay too.

This is the season of hurry and worry. Will I get everything done? If I hurry, yes! But it doesn’t work, because you cut corners and the quality suffers and then you worry. Hurry worry.

The basement tends to flood. We have done everything we can in terms of diverting the water from the house. Now we have redone the floors to a tight-fitting vinyl which will be easier to clean if there should be another flood.

Dusk is when the crepuscular animals come out. It is a scary time because vision is reduced and things are murky.

Scar isn’t evil, he was just being mean. That was the quote of the three-year old character in a novel I read this year. Three-year olds don’t think that way, but the quote is interesting.

I don’t understand the panorama setting on my new camera. What is it supposed to do?

Blemishes don’t bother me now, but as a teenager they were devastating.

I like sleeves. I don’t like to show off bare shoulders or arms. This was true even when I was young. Why? Not sure. A privacy thing? Because I want to focus on the music rather than myself? Nowadays soloists wear as skimpy dresses as they can find.

Your body is a temple. It is somewhere in the Bible. But then what happens when the body is diseased. I don’t like the analogy at all. It breaks down too quickly.

I’m always telling my students to increase their palette of tone colors so that their performances are interesting. I think the most important thing for a musician is a variety of tone color. Otherwise it is just boring.

Every little girl wants to be a princess, has her favorite Disney princess. Why was I not like that? I didn’t like the princesses at all. But I did like The Secret Garden–a different sort of princess I guess.

I bought a new gown for my concert. It was hard to find a gown that covered my arms and I can’t wear a gown that doesn’t cover my shoulders and arms. I feel uncomfortable in such a gown and I get cold. Eventually I found the perfect dress, though it is a bit tight.

Sneaky sounds just like its meaning. Like a snake, sneaky–I love that word! The sound of it is delicious. Sneaky….

My wedding band is platinum which is more durable than gold. I think it is beautiful.

Return turn turn and turn again. Cycles. Nothing new. The old returns. But the young think it is all new. They are wrong. And the next generation will return to their ideas.

I really should get a centerpiece for the table this holiday season. I just never bother. I want the space for the food platters! The same for the receptions after my studio events. I just don’t bother with a centerpiece. Is this bad? I think it is because I am not a visual person. I just don’t even think of it.

I am always telling my students not to slouch, that the studio is a “no slouch” zone. Not that it helps! The young ones, when they slouch, I tell them they aren’t teenagers yet, they can’t slouch!

Anywhere, it doesn’t matter. Wherever you go, there you are. So why travel? Except that different environments can spark new ideas and thoughts. You don’t change, but the perspective does. So it is good to go anywhere, anywhere at all to shake up the routine.

The skyline is an anchor. On TV shows the filming could take place anywhere, but throw in a few skyline shots and the audience believes it all takes place in whatever city. Each city has a distinct skyline.

Through a dim glass darkly. I think the quote is wrong, but that is what I always think. I like bright light, dim light makes me anxious, depressed. I hold this insane hope that after death the dim light will be gone.

A marbled steak has perfect flavor.
I found a marble when digging a new bed for the garden. I put it in my zen garden, a reminder of when my children were young.
A marble statue.

The symphony orchestra has been described as a museum. It maintains and displays the repertoire of ages past and promotes current artists and composers. I think the description is apt.

The president of the organization really holds all the responsibility and also sets the tone. I have observed so many different styles of leadership, and it depends a lot on the personality of the president. But some are more effective than others. I’m not sure what my style will be when I am president in 2013.
