sunlight

With sunlight peeking in through the blinds, I covered my head with a pillow wishing it away. The dream was an odd one. It involved a rescued dachshund puppy and something Harry Potter related. Very much wanting to continue this adventure, I closed my eyes and tried to will myself back to sleep and into the magical world my brain had created. Alas, my senses were alerted once more by the unmistakable sounds of football and hollering coming from the main house. Nap-time over.

anthem

God. Anthems are so heavy and scary. It’s either extremely political or extremely personal, usually on opposite ends of the spectrum. Both equally scary in my opinion. Anthems seem much to me like tattoos. I’m too scared to commit to anything. Too scared to really go for anything that might stain me. Like a belief in something. Like an anthem

I sit at the table my chopsticks in hand. my farther yelling at me and my mother. “why do your grades suck and why haven’t you cleaned?” he would always say this to us.

families

The family gathered around the hearth, whether they were happy or sad or just wanted to sit by the fire. It’s amazing what a hearth in the kitchen can do for a family’s bonding. They want to sit by the fire, and they gather, and the family is closer than those who don’t have a fireplace in the middle of the house.

jury

They say you’re innocent until you’ve been proven guilty, but I knew without a doubt that that jury was about to convict me, and so help me god I deserved it. I deserved it more than the aristocratic man with the Roman nose that was convicted of money laundering; I deserved it more than the twenty-or-so year old kid just done for theft; I deserved it, and there was no going back.

follow

To follow someone is an art form. They must not see you, you musn’t even see yourself. To see yourself would be futile. To follow someone is an important thing that all of us do. It’s a vital part of the mortal state. A sad, sad part of life.

neat

He couldn’t stand how neat she always was, her books colour coded and her pens all in line like soldiers on her desk. She never had a hair out of place, and it was infuriating. How could she be so perfect?

coarse

Language is a gift. A gift that man has developed over centuries. We’ve perfected the subtle nuances and contextual inferences that make each word totally different, and yet we still rely on coarse language as a means of effective emotional communication!

coil

She recoiled as he slid his hand across her shoulder. She did not like his touch. It gave her the willies every time he was near her and now on this day at the cemetery to feel his hand on her was more then she could bare.

The coil on the truck had fallen off again, this time it would need to be replaced. Now Susie would be looking for a ride to the garage

church

I used to be there every Sunady morning for at least an hour, sometimes two. Then college happened. Suddenly no one was making me get up. I didn’t go anymore. I miss it. When I’m in Rome, I think I’ll go to mass at a different old cathedral each week.

hapless

The young boy was hapless as he walked to the principal’s office. He knew he was in trouble AGAIN. No matter how hard he tried, he always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He hoped that maybe this time would be different.

striped

Striped. His body covered in red. Thorns. He stands, facing greater pain. But he stands. He is striped. Blood. He suffers. He has stripes. He suffers. For you he bears the stripes.

A back. Striped. Red. Blood. He stands, the pain great. But he stands anyway. Striped. He is covered. About to suffer greater pain. Thorns. Lashes. Blood. He is striped. For you.

The suit was striped. It hung around the thin boy like a garish costume. Petunia rolled her eyes at the absurd nature of it. What were these people thinking? A skinny boy in a suit was not going to convince anyone. Neither was the elephant sized hat adorning her head. These people were all insane. But so was she. If she wasn’t she would be somewhere else right now.

The wind on the sea was powerful, a roaring lion threatening the lives of the men on board. The storm was growing.

sons

Jacob didn’t want to end things. But he knew he had to. He loved them all very much but he couldn’t stay much longer. Those boys had really been a blessing to him. He loved every moment they shared together. He wished to never forget those boy scouts, ever.

influence

You snag your props and claw your fame from the flesh of innocent children. They’re left without substance, but plenty of “swagger,” and you love it.

montage

The idea of a montage is a strange one. It’s a collection of seemingly unrelated images, that mean something to the creator. They collect the images, and fit them together. The meaning of the montage may only be truly known by the collector. An idle observer cannot understand just how they connect.

» Posted By Bethany On 06.07.2013 @ 9:42 am

The images won’t stop playing, on repeat in my head. It’s a collection of thoughts, ideas, memories. I watch, completely entranced.

taboo

It’s wrong. Something unacceptable, at least in the eyes of society. But that doesn’t mean that you have to listen to them.

Sometimes, though, society has it right and wrong is wrong.

clasp

Clasping: to reach and grab, to exert pressure onto an item, thing, organism. Clasp emotionally to have that click that makes since. A clasp on a necklace that one can’t connect so you either struggle or you find the nearest person, or if no one is there you just don’t wear it.
