lawn

I think lawns are cool. they have grass on them. They make the front of houses look nice. Sometimes they are filled with frogs. That’s why I don’t like cutting my lawn. Lawns smell like soccer because it smells like new grass
Everyone should have a lawn like me.

coffeehouse

Coffeehouse? I’m actually a little confused by the word. What exactly is a coffeehouse? Is coffee made there? Does it sell coffee? Or is it just another word for a coffee shop? When I first saw the word, the one thing that came to mind was the cafes that make up the Melburnian brunch scene. The ones I visit most weekends and the same ones I promised I wouldn’t go to because I neither like their coffee, nor their food. Okay this might be a lie because most of the time I do enjoy their food but I never really care much for their coffee. To be very honest, I normally prefer a coffee from McDonalds. Everytime I visit one of these places there are always references to the coffee and how this particular cafe has the best coffee or in some instances there is a special room that is clear, that has the coffee grinding machines and coffee beans. I’m not sure if this is supposed to reenforce how great their coffee is or maybe it has to do with showing people where things come from? how they are produced? I mean how many people think about where their coffee beams comes from?

pool

He wasn’t breathing. Even though she had fished him from the pool just in time, even though she had done all the right steps, what she’d learned in class, he definitely was not breathing, dammit. Sobs wracked her body, and she leaned over him, dripping wet in her clothes. his lips were blue and his eyes were closed, and she kept saying his name, Steve, Steve, STEVE, until she was shouting it and let the people hear, because she didn’t care anymore. She had thrown him in, let them think that, let them think what they liked. As long as he lived.

resident

The resident of house is like your soul. It stays with you because it’s the only place it has to live. When you die, it flies into nothingness.

nonfiction

The books you would read in the library that you can’t take out. That is what I would think of if you said the word “Nonfiction.” I want to become a doctor because of these books. So these books are the reason I am who I am.

used to think it was a nice hobby – it turned into a life-prohibitive activity. there is nothing more important than golf. all finances go toward golf.
it’s becoming an annoying word…never thought i’d have to think of it negatively.

recover

I breathe without pain for the first time in months. My head feels clear. I can hear the voices around me. My mother is crying. I know now I have recovered, but I don’t know what I have recovered from.

wealth

He was the wealthiest man in New York.

It was factually incorrect, but he was wealthy enough that he could say things like that and have a half-dozen “yes” men agree with him.

He wasn’t that wealthy New York man. He was a lot more nuanced than that. A lot more ethical.

But his feet were still in the mud. He wasn’t good.

The room is 10 feet by 10 feet, wood paneling. A man who looks like a deflated balloon greets her. His hands are slimy.

deity

A true deity will guide and protect. A true deity is made by belief. A person’s belief can produce any body, any place, any thing into being. That is how writing and art work. They create deities.

standup

The idea of being a standup comic is terrifying. Can you imagine being on that stage and having to remember all your jokes and get people to laugh and also deal with hecklers? Lucrative though. I like standups who tell stories, not one liner stuff, although Tim Vine is fantastic.

My mind was once one of creativity, allowing me to soar above into the clouds, allowing me to feel tall, like the towers and skyscrapers below. Now I have nothing left. I feel dry and parched, like weeds, having nothing to offer the garden of my mind.

nourish

I felt alive for the first time in months. For so long I had felt emotionally drained, even dead, so to speak. However, this time, as I walked away, without looking back, I could feel something. I could feel the sun nourish my skin with its warm rays, and allowing me to glow, and radiate its light. I walked with a bounce in my step. As I took a sip of water, I felt relaxed, and hydrated. A smile crept along my face, growing ever wider. I felt like I could breathe again…at last. I could finally breathe.

Everything that we do in life is fateful. All our choices contribute to our eventual fates. I’m talking the major to the mundane. Taking an extra five seconds to look in the mirror on your way out the door will change your life. It’s not a possibility, it’s a guarantee.

We’ve probably all heard that “life is a jungle” but no one tells you that you’re not at the top of the food chain. We like to think we are. We–humans–are the only ones with the ability to be self-aware, right? And we think that makes us tops in the world of eat or be eaten. But it doesn’t. We’re prey to all of those lurking creatures hidden in the dark recesses of our minds. Pain, and grief and hurt and fear. And those beasts, those monsters… they eat us alive. They chew us up from the inside out.

round

Round an around in circles,
Round and round the earth
Back and forth, to and fro
Opposite poles and conflicting ideologies

Are there answers around the next bend?
Or will we just go round again?

Problems and solutions
And solutions that create problems
Hindsight and regret
Around again we go

Round the world,
One continuous line
Round again,
Again

confident

Something I’ll never be anymore. I used to be the most confident person in the world – I loved my body, my mind, my soul. Now I’m lucky if I have confidence in my soul. It’s breaking and I have nothing left to give. All I need is hope. Is confidence in myself.

“Well, to be exact I didn’t really…well…umm-” I stammered. “You didn’t what, honey,” said my teacher silkily, her voice dangerously smooth. “This doesn’t have anything to do with your homework now does it? Hmmm?” I tried to calm myself. Unfortunately, it DID have something to do with my homework. “Well…I didn’t…well…umm…finish…kinda…my homework,” I mumbled.

She sighed and turned away from the depressing scene. She had turned the last water marked and crinkly page in the book, frail with age, and the wonderful story had ended. Exactly as she had dreaded…but wait! Was that a sequel she spotted?
