Slow inhale next to sharp. Subtle appreciation alongside loud exhalation. A shared preference, yet the expressions couldn’t be more different.

Holding you in my arms, holding me tight. Willing captives, as it was. Breathe one last before all is done.

His eyes screamed, begging for mercy when his mouth could not. Turned away, no one left to meet his gaze.

Reaching, grasping, holding –
Grip slips. You fall.
Away they turn, away they go.
Gone, gone, gone.
You’ve stopped, waiting, tearful

Slowly, slowly, slowly
stepping through the forest.
Dim light light surrounds,
fading away with the fall of the star.

Your turn has come up. You inhale sharply at the call of your name, knowing what lies ahead – and yet, not knowing at all. Aboard you go, for what choice do you have?

Stepping up onto the ledge, I glanced back one last time with a smile on my face. Aboard this new journey, this was the last time I would look back. It was time to start anew.

Go ahead, I say, gesturing forward. You walk with a nod, subtle showing of thanks. Same pattern, different day.

“Why now?” she sobbed. “I was so close! Just one more day!”
Death smiled. “It seems that you’ve got dues to pay.”

“You had so much going for you!” she shouted. “Where’s your drive? Your determination?”
I sighed, barely audible even in the quiet hush of the room. “Long gone.”

Was I really as determined as I thought I was? I could have done so much more, I could have succeeded, but I always lacked the determination. And now, now I’m paying for it.

I watch them silently from afar. They laugh at a memory they share. I desperately want to catch their attention, to beckon them over so we could talk like old times.

He beckoned me from the corner. I rushed over, afraid of what I was going to hear. It couldn’t be anything good, it never was. He handed me a note and left silently.

The chalkboard is where I wrote my secrets. I couldn’t share them with anyone, so I wrote it down to get it all out. Hearing footsteps would send me flying to the eraser, haphazardly getting rid of the evidence, of my innermost secrets.

I remember the mini chalkboard I had when I was a kid. I always drew on that because I could never find any paper or pencils. I hated to erase my drawings, but I had to if I wanted to draw something else.

Chell picked up the radio that blared a familiar tune. ‘Why are these everywhere?’ she thought, recalling the many radios she had encountered on the way here. ‘Did they really put these here to calm me down? Because it’s not working.’

“Can’t we go to that booth?” I heard the child whine. “No, honey, it’s too expensive, especially for such a silly little game.” “MOM!” The kid tugged on her purse. “I just want one game! Don’t you want me to have good childhood memories?” The mother sighed, taking out her wallet. The kid zoomed off with the money. I chuckled, remembering the last time I came to the fair, 10 years ago.

“Why couldn’t we have had that booth?” he grumbled, “It was already clean.” “Don’t ask me, ask the person that sat you here.” He jumped, turning towards the waitress with a sheepish grin. “I-I wasn’t blaming you!”

We slid into the booth, noting the surprising comfiness. It pays in that respect to go to a new restaurant, I suppose. That was the best part of the place, unfortunately.

Tempted to tell you, but I can’t. I know you wouldn’t accept me for who I am. You’ve always hated people like me, and you don’t hesitate to tell me so. And you wonder why I don’t want to talk to you.

So tempted to just get out of here. Just walk out and run, far, far away. To live where I’ve always wanted to, to be anywhere but here. But I can’t. Not yet.

“I just want you to forget me, please.” I shivered, only now noticing the cool winds. “Why? Why would you ever want that? And how could you think I’d be able to do that?”
» Posted By Zevvers On 05.15.2011 @ 10:43 pm
That one moment. How could I forget? It’s been a long time, but it meant so much to me. And yet, here I am, years later, with barely any recollection of it.

Gone, but not forgotten. That’s what they say about other people, sure. But me? Ha. It hardly applies. I’m gone, gone, long gone. But I’ve already been forgotten. I don’t think I was ever remembered in the first place.

I just wanted you to console me. That’s all. I know it would have been awkward, but wouldn’t it have been worth it? Or is my happiness worth nothing? I guess that’s just how you really are.
» Posted By Zevvers On 05.10.2011 @ 8:48 pm
“Console him over his CONSOLE? That’s a bit odd, isn’t it? Why doesn’t he just buy another one? He easily could.” “Save files, man, the save files. That’s why.”

Just once. I saw it just once, and that’s all it took. Just a regular night, driving along an empty road. I was in the back seat, practically asleep. But for some reason, I looked out the window at that one moment, and that’s all I needed.

Fluorescent. Just seeing the word hurts my head. I’ve never liked fluorescent lighting, it was always too bright and painful. Natural light or no light at all is how I prefer it. But the world around me seems to run on it, so I just have to deal with it.

The fluorescent lighting bombards my eyes. “Why’d you turn on the lights?” I asked, shielding my face. “How can you see without them? It’s so dark!” “I don’t like this artificial light, it’s too painful.” She sighed and walked out, leaving the lights on.
