I ran through the forest, thin branches smacked me in the face. I had to get away. I had to find a place to hide. But most of all, i had to avoid the seemingly bottomless pits that scattered the landscape.

I ran into the ancient cathedral. I had to get away. Being a spy had always helped in situations like this, situations when i had to get away.

“Mr. president, we have an emergency.”
“I dont have time for this right now.”
“But sir, its a code seven.”
“Fine, make is brief.”
“All of our captives have escaped.”
“So you mean….”
“Yes sir, we have just released a warehouse of extra-terrestrial life forms onto this planet.”

switching back and forth between channels on her television, she got nothing but static. she pressed the “guide” button on her remote, but there were no channels listed. she tried to turn the television off, it gave no response. then, she unplugged it. Still nothing but a polar bear in a snowstorm on her tv. the static was getting louder. there was movement outside of the window. no one heard her scream.

The day the world ended was like any other, the sun was shining, children were laughing, music was playing. And then they came, the monsters, the aliens, the birds. They were huge, with twenty-five foot wingspans and beaks that could pierce cars and rip people in half. They made giant nests on our houses, giant nests to hold their children.

I watched in horror as the thing in front of me grabbed my dog by both its jaws and ripped it straight in half. The body was dust before it hit the ground, but the bones were still there. I almost threw up as the animal crushed the bones with his foot until he had grind them into dust as well.

I walked in the room and the first thing to hit me was the smell. The smell of blood. But also the smell of something else, something… sweet. I scanned the room to find the source. There! In the corner sat an open jar of grape jelly and a butter knife that had been taken out of the third body.

As my heart is broken and my body is killed i can feel my faith weakening and my soul emptying. I thought this would be easy. I was sadly mistaken. And now i am wondering what would happen if i kept on writing even though i was already told to stop and submit this. Hm… im tempted to see how long it will let me go. But i wont do that today. But this would be a good way to post longer things… just a thought.

I scanned the crowd, i had to find him. “Look for the red ball cap.” I told myself again and again. I had hoped this would be a good day. I had finally convinced my ex-wife to let me take my son out for the day and i had lost him.

The only light for miles, casting their dim hope across the honeysuckle fields of our youth, blinking in and our like the loves of our youth. Dawn brings them back to their homes, and us back to our work.
