wolf

There was a time in my life when I was afraid to cry. There were so many times that I tried to get help but no one was listening. It was as if I had cried wolf so many times that my words no longer held value. But i never cried wolf. I only cried for help. No one hears me.

breakthrough

I don’t know what is going through my mind, it’s so scrambled and shattered. At some point I know that I will reach a breakthrough, but for now I feel like crying.

humorous

I can’t help but look at my situation as humorous. I always thought I would be the one to get away from this place, this poverty and make something of myself. That didn’t happen. All my life I have felt stuck. I have to think it’s humorous or I will cry.

symbolic

Oh, but now when I think of a dungeon I will always think of you. . It’s supposed to be a good thing, a little secret joke between us, but the symbolic meaning of a dungeon isn’t lost on me. It’s torture knowing you, when I can’t have you.

swerve

She looked out the window at the blue sky with white puffy clouds floating like marshmellows in hot chocolate. Her heart was full as she saw the car swerve around the tree coming up the driveway.

downgrade

letting something deteriorate or go to pot. Or is it to reduce quality or upset your apple cart. What happens when you down-grade in the car and run into a snow bank. Or could you mix up with down and have something entirely different.

breakout

We at the library suffered a breakout of the flu that caused most of our staff to be out for most of January. We suspect that it was triggered by patron who caused all our computer.

lint

Lint seems to be everywhere in a laundry room. It gets stuck in the vent that leads to the outside of the house. The dryer has lint on top of it from when you empty the lint trap. I use a Bounce sheet to clean the lint trap and that helps.

dating

Dating my age you will never guess
How old I really am
For I won’t tell you of my age
Since I am a woman
And women have a right not to tell

How old do you think I am
If I won’t tell you when I was born

angels

When I think of Angels, I’m inclined to revert to pop culture television and movies. But, the truth is that angels are everywhere, carrying out small acts of kindness and guardianship everyday, be it in people or ethereally.

mercy

He showed no mercy that night. It was all a blur, and by the hour’s end, he knew he’d done it again. How? After all this time? How had he stepped foot back in the haggard old cabin? It wasn’t his choice. He didn’t remember making a choice.

The patch lay loosely against his right eye. So annoyed, he thought as he tried to scratch around it. Why now. Prom of course was just a few weeks away and of course this is the time that something like this would happen.

still

Be still my heart is one of my favorite sayings. It really captures what you feel when you love something greatly and it sort of stops your heart when you see it–like when I look at my daughters’ faces. Be still my heart. I look at them and pat my heart. It’s a physical sensation.

prayer

Sometimes it works. I don’t know. I don’t believe there is anyone up in the sky granting wishes. There is no wizard of oz. But the act of praying may be the answer to the question as to whether it works. I’ve prayed but it seems a lot more like meditation than what I consider prayer.

sniper

We couldn’t eat lunch in the courtyard outside, because suburban high schools weren’t used to this happening where they were. I remember my mother getting in the car, waiting for the gas to pump. “I’m happy to let the fear win,” she said. She didn’t want to get shot at a gas station. The fear was gone in a year, and we pretended this never happened.

affection

He was the object of my affection. Beautiful baby blue eyes. Bedroom eyes, as my best friend used to say. He is some ways would reciprocate my affection. Shooting spit wads at me took on a whole new meaning. They were shot with love, I would tell myself. But low and behold, he was showing real affection for my best friend, a dilemma I had not anticipated.
