I refilled my cartridge and locked and loaded by gun. Cartridge is not a particularly inspiring words as it evokes only sorts of mechanical things, a cartridge with whch you can replace emotions or something maybe.

Laying there, half woman, half something else, a mystery, an anomaly, always keeps me guessing as to which part I’m going to get, the seductive, gentle woman or the cold shark. She swims away, after begging for fish, then she is on the bar stool next to me asking for a light. I’m not sure where I am or how I got here. What sort of hegemony is this that rings

Hidden from view, her head swaddled in a cloak bought from a used clothing store, she held out her hand, dirty with broken nails and several cuts. She thrust it at me repeatedly.

Where to start? What to eliminate? What to accentuate? It’s important to pull yourself out of this stasis, the overwhelming sensation of being caught in a web, trapped in the mud, you need to prioritize, straighten yourself out.

Take my advice. Don’t worry about the future, don’t be ruled by your fears or your wild imaginings, they will always be worse than what will actually happen, It will be a mix of the good and bad, just take your time.

I will go with you, wherever you want to go, without questions, without looking back, I’ll done my wings and fly to the sun and risk it all, if you would only keep me in your eyes, wash me with your smile, urge me on with your voice, I’d do it gladly.

Protection, that’s what I need, protection, something to fend off the arrows and grappling hands as they drag to pull you down, preferably made of teflon so they slip off, some non-stick surface to allow protection from rain

I should make it clear just what I am saying but that is illusive. It is perhaps illusory as well, the thought that it can all be summarized so neatly, brought to a finely wrought point, cleany argued and summarized.

I take it in my hand. I hold it up close. I hold it far away. I put it in my pocket. I carry it around for several days. I pull it back out. It has pocket lint on it but it is no less compelling, no less mesmerizing.

There it was, the possibility, standing in front, welcoming and I had to decide if I could jump in, if I could muster the courage to go through that door to whatever waited beyond. It was shimmering, as if in anticipation of my entrace, and threatening to disappear.

Taking that song and working it, applying 30 years of musical knowledge, but all of this done without thinking too hard about it, just tweaking unconsciously to match up with a hard-won, long-considered aesthetic. That’s craftsmanship.

Tied together, all of those worries formed a formidable bunch, each seeming to magnify the other. They seemed overwhelming so I decided to pluck each one out and pretend the others didn’t exist.

this unit of energy, heating up a unit of water by a unit of nutrient, not even nutrients, anything that will burn really, it’s just a measure of energy, like a kilowatt or a Joule.

Perfectly round, a space to move without corners, and a face, roundish, smiling, a face without corners or edges, with a slight sheen and round eyes right in the middle, a series of ovoids.

Oozing, literally oozing from his pores, maddeningly dripping from the corners of his mouth as he stood there with his hands on his hips and head in the clouds and feet on some poor sucker’s head; yeah, baby, he was confident!

A rural take on the issue, one that eschews fancy justifications and reasoning but is as simple as the need to go out and split wood, or rake the leaves, or clean out the septic system, hell, forget about septic systems!

From the top now, we’ll go backand start there and see if upon a rewind and restart we don’t see something differently this time. It’s like evolution generally, you don’t have any idea where things will end up, there is no hard set predictability.

The sum total of all of these feelings is somehow less then the all of the parts. It feels like there should be some much greater whole then there is given the wide range of thoughts and feelings shooting off like sparks, erupting like geysers!

I was at the equator of my feelings at that moment. I was split in half. I could have sailed north into the colder comforts, the trappings and joy of hearth, or I could have gone south into the humid, dank, exciting forests and the unknown.

The smell of incense leaves me incensed. Insence makes no sense. Incense is inessential for my well-being. Why incense and incensed?

Hanging above, inviting, illuminating us here, in this meadow, with the breeze and the backlit leaves swaying, our promises reaching up to the soft light and carried away through to the stars and somehow echoing back to us.

It fits perfectly. This is just the right thing, just the right amount of pleasure and pain, salt and pepper. It’s precise, formidably precise and form-fitting, sheerly maginificent.

Done, I’m done. It’s finished. The whole thing is wrapped up. I’ve tied it up like a christmas package and I’m shipping it to a friend in Omaha. C’est fini. We’ve circled the wagons and we’re waiting for the rest of the nation to come and finish up off.

the tyrant lies within, demanding autonomy, freedom, always wanting more and more, refusing other considerations, other points of view, pressing, pressing inward and refusing the outward.

This will be nice and clean. No messy loose ends, no frayed corners, we make a nice neat incision and no one will be any the wiser. Maybe that should be excision. We will cut it out, it will heal and that will be that!

A bully of the mind, of the soul, a bully when it comes to emotional meandering, wasn’t ready to start writing yet kind of bully, bully for you, old sod.

From the street you could hear them practicing, and imagine the thin, emaciated director flailing away in front of them, trying to organize this chaos, the pitch issues.

Turning, slowly at first and then more and more slowly, a spinning that is just barely decipherable from non-spinning, you can’t tell if it’s just the head turning a little, or someone pursing their lips in a somewhat odd way.

I was contained and cool. Everything one might want to scream out, was held in, controlled, boxed in and sorted, so that there were no awkward edges, no misplaced boxes sitting at ugly angles, just symmetry

Congealing on the plate, small mounds of gravy and potato, a shard or two of meat, some peas. It asks for resolution, some kind of conclusion…
