A noble and complicated game is billiards. I used to play in a couple’s tournament when I tended bar. We only played 8 ball, never the more sophisticated 9 ball or billiards.

There was a certain sly movement of his eyes that gave me the creeps. It said, ” Don’t trust me, I’m going to lie to you then i will rip off your face. ” The slyness had more than a touch of evil.

Departure from one stage of life to a brand new stage can be exhilerating and totally frightening. There’s so much invested in the old ways you can feel like changes are impossible, you’re too old, it’s too late, it’s taking a big chance to leave the old familiar ways behind. Sometimes your only mode of transportation is a leap of faith. Do you believe in yourself enough to counter act the negative committee that meets in your head every day? Can your belief in your abilities stand up to the bullies in your life that say you’re crazy, you’re perfectly fine where you are, why do you want to try something new? Departure, that can be a new begining, a fresh start. It’s growth and opportunity and newness. Why would you not want to continue towards this new life, this new adventure, this new you? Take someone along with you. If you really only associate with bullies and your own personal negative committee, write a letter of encouragement to yourself. Tell yourself how awesome you are, how brave, how talented. If you can’t encourage yourself, who would want to do it for you? Not someone stuck in the ruts mistakenly called their “comfort zone” They wouldn’t know adventure if it bit them on the nose.

There’s a spiritual aspect to being a grand parent. It’s a responsibility that includes joy and reverence for the grandchild in question. It’ s a quickening of the pulse and a dramatic heartbeat to the tempo of the multitude of butterflies in your stomach. At first sight of said Holy child, there is a wide unabashed grin that wi;ll not leave the face of said grand parent until child is no longer in sight. There is peace and lauhgter, time for play no matter what else needs to be done. Time stands still for that set of events. Grandparents and grandchildren are a special relationship, not to be taken for granted. It is to be cherished, revered, marveled at and enjoyed. They grow up as fast as your kids did but hopefully, this time around you take the time to savour the moments more. To drink more deeply of the essence of these beautiful children you get to share. You notice more of the things that bring wonder to their little minds, you hear more clearly the deep belly laughs and really taste the pretend tea and plastic chicken.

I.m in a frenzy about all I have to do today. I think i,ll have a drink instead. I’ll get a better start tomorrow and try not to be in a frenzy about it, and if so there’s always another day.

Pretzels are salty and twisted (sometimes). They are not my favorite snack, but I do like the ones with peanut butter in the middle.
