Three pieces of toast popped out of the toaster today.
How an extra toast got into the machine, I have not the tiniest clue.
But clearly it was impossible.
My only options were these:
1. My eyes were playing with my brain
2. Someone had put another toast on one side
3. I wasn’t thinking when I was placing the slices of bread.
I had to cross out option. 3 because I WAS concentrating.
Dad was the only person in the house and he was still in the shower…
Or was he?

Babysitting a child was not as easy as I had thought; yet mothering a child turned out to be worse. As Kate tripped over her new Barbie car, opened her pink mouth and wailed, I was taken back to my youthful days when life seemed so… open.

“Captivate my mind… Captivate it!”
For once I imagined myself being taught of wizardry by a professor in a fantastical school.
But my focus returned and I only noticed myself facing my teacher’s stern face.

When people think about art, they imagine splashes of vibrant colour, a canvas scribbled with fascinating drawings, a spark of imagination.
But when I think about art, I imagine something different, something that may not seem art at all.

There were staples on the cork board, but no notes.
Casually, I asked Emily why there were no notes.
She merely replied
“That’s the point, they’re invisible”

I was set. I was ready.
“You ready, Kat?” The teacher eyed me firmly.
I rubbed my hands confidently, “Ready.” I nodded.
I checked my cat costume tip-to-toe for the hundredth time.
Ears, face, paws, tail… Oh, that face! I couldn’t help but feel the furriness with my bulgy paws.
“…my dear, I must depart now. When you remember me in deep sorrow, look at the bright side of the world and do not worry about me…”
“Worry about you? Why you’re not the thing to bloody worry about! I’M the poor, wretched one here…”
“Yes, I know, my dear. You’ll be fine, I promise.”
“I mean I’ll be the poor soul left alone to worry about whether her husband will buy striped pyjamas instead of SPOTTED pyjamas. Do you know how much I hate stripes? I want spots, spots, SPOTS!”
As the screeching words and the laughter echoed, I practiced my ‘meow’ part.
It must be like imitating a real cat, I recalled my teacher’s words.
Suddenly, I felt a hard push behind me. Losing my step, I skipped uncontrollably forward, stopping myself right next to the end of the curtain. Recollecting myself, I turned up to hear the line…
“Kitty… kitty, where the devil are you?”
Mindlessly, I scurried to the stage. I was on the spotlight.
“Oh, there you are my kitty.” the actress said with a relieved look.
As I cleared my throat for the ‘meow’…. BANG! The theatre door flung open and crashed to the wall. A shooting gust of wind blasted into the room, snatching away all the warmth.
It was like a monster, an angrily crying monster searching for something… or someone.

The grand doors with intricate winding patterns… the blinding sight of pure gold sparkling in the sunlight…
As I opened my eyes, my thoughts were suddenly broken.
There were no grand doors. Oh, nor were there beautiful patterns or sparkling ores.
Indeed my eyes could not bear the blinding sight… the blinding sight of dusty, shattered paper doors.
I gasped. What of my dream doors?

The man was so polite that Jane was lost in words.
Never had such a gentleman appeared in the humble town of Noll.

People said that he was a great influence to youth learners.
But at that moment, Jean thought of something else.
There was good influence… or there was bad influence.
And when it was bad, it was very, very bad.
Already, Jean sense the badness of it, the greediness.

A pleasantly slight tang, derived from the sweet scone, gave me a kiss.
A kiss in the tongue, and therefore my tongue’s sweet air was what it gave me.
But then, it escaped and lost hold of it, all over again.

It was wrapped with the most beautiful paper, so beautiful that any being’s eyes would melt into flowing tears.
My eyes stared at it and soon spat out tears. Angry tears. Tears that wanted to scream in frustration, tears that wanted to blind the evil woodcutters, tears that wanted to shelter all trees from any harm.
I wanted to run away from it; I wanted it out of sight. But I was drawn to it, as if it was an unbearable magnet. With my face damp from the rivers of my eyes, I continued to gaze at it helplessly.

There the bell tower stood, incomplete.
As Night’s wide coat brushed aside Day and spread the world like a rolled out carpet, the builders left the site, and the tower.
But not all was alone. A little girl hid at the peak of the monument and looked out a perfect hole, gazing at the wondrous view that stretched into the gleaming horizon.
If only I could show this to the world, if only I could just draw, the girl thought, a sigh of longing escaping her lips.
At that moment, she understood; she understood why so many painters displayed such a fantastical image. Because the fantasy was reality, and it was happening in front of her own eyes.

There. The collection was complete. Dani looked over the whole assortment as she placed the last piece to the puzzle. It gave her a satisfying feeling, a feeling of accomplishment. The blow of the sea kissed the dazzling shells and gave them a little more sparkle. It was then that the true beauty of the precious revealed itself to its finder, and official owner.

I hastily tumbled out of the hole into the other side of the park.
As I waited for the others, I lay on the soft grass, smelling the moist soil.
“What are you doing there? Get up!”
The others had finally caught up and my relaxing moment was over. Again.
I sighed. I’ll have to finish faster next time.

Magically, a pair of soft, woolen socks appeared, hanging by the window sill of the rusty house. In glee, she desperately ran and clutched onto it, her once pale, sickly face transforming into a brightly shining one.

She could see faint pixels of light from the corner of her eyes as she stood still, panting heavily.
Must keep to plan, must keep to plan, the words ran through her mind.
The park was no ordinary park, as the children of her town had told her.
It was almost like a mysterious forest that had many things to hide.
She felt like an insect in it, the monstrous trees towering above her.
How could she ever find the right tree when all of the were identical?
A ladder. But a ladder would have its own disguise too.
What a joy.

I let the flapping bird flee from my open hands and watched it disappear into the horizon, its figure gradually shrinking until it became merely a black dot in the infinite sky.

The only sound that could be heard was the soft buzzing of the neon light signpost, which was rapidly flashing on and off. The night was still. Too still. I could feel that at any moment, something would suddenly jump out. Scraps of paper were blown into poles and into my hand. I could not recognise the language of the writing. Wonderful. With nothing else to do, I casually kicked the ground, hands in pockets. Suddenly, I could feel tiny vibrations in the ground… and the rhythmic beat of drums. Soon after that, distant chants gradually flowed to my ears and I could see faint lights, a campfire. A campfire in the centre of a city.

Sam was delving through the crowd, which was now getting irritated with the sudden pushes and nudges. As he finally escaped the chaos of the commotion, he noticed Demi looking at her watch impatiently. He hurried to her and washed a sense of relief onto her face.
“Why hello, Demetrius. I know you’ve been waiting for me..” he flashed one of his silly smiles at her.
“No time for names now, boy”
For once, she didn’t seem to mind his annoying jokes.

Everything about the place was shattered. Some shatters here and there. Some shatters far away. Even the glass shattered dome towered magnificently above all its shattered creations. Cracks spiralled at every direction, yet even thought it looked as it was going to collapse, it held on with immense. Wandering further into the corners of the grand palace, something did not belong in the shattered group of objects. Something was wrong about it. Claudia approached the little glass case and examined its flawless detail. A beautiful pattern continuously circled the case, with lines rising and falling in different shapes.

Nicole’s lips stretched into a brief smile as she prepared the climax of her new unique creation. Why was art so neat nowadays, she thought as she tied each paint tube with string. Red, purple, blue, orange, black, green. It was going to be magnificent, Nicole just knew it.

The swing gently rocked like a lullaby, and the breeze joined in as it whistled and hummed softly, dancing with the leaves. It brought curiosity to the little girl, as she shrieked in the delights of her youth.

The black and white photo revealed a small city. The past. History. What a city it had become, since those ol’ days.

Gazing at the night sky, my eyes met the many celestial spirits floating high above. I could almost feel them staring back at me.
Beneath me, the water rocked like a little cradle, lulling a baby to sleep. And soon, I began to wander off from reality.

A figure loomed from behind, bringing with it light to mask all darkness.
Nothing moved from the little figure, but the strands of hair pulled by the winds.

Scents of aromatic soaps drifted from room to room, alluring me in their paths. I was suddenly interrupted by windows bleached from snow. Something about them ringed a bell in my mind. A bell I could not recognise. It continued to ring urgently, more and more every time. My thoughts were trapped in a monstrous tornado, whirling faster and faster.

I wasn’t interested. But he urged me on.
“Come one, mate. Let’s go for a beer, eh?”
I looked up to Demi pleadingly, walls of worry trapping me inside rapidly.
Suddenly, I was pulled hard. A sweaty hand reached for me. I groaned and screamed. But nobody could hear. Just me.

“That’s enough now,” she said, to my disappointment, “Goodnight dearie”
She kissed me gently on my forehead as I slowly leaned to the chilly grass.
I was annoyed. Her stories never ended. The beginnings were wonderful and they developed to a thrilling climax. But the excitement would always end there. A good story always has a beginning, middle and end.
Where had the endings wandered off to… I wondered wistfully.

It had once flourished to an immense beauty; one that captured my eyes above all others. But it withered. To my utter horror, it drooped mournfully, wanting to live no more. Sooner than ever, it had dissolved into mere ashes and soil, flying away with the forevermore travelling winds.

A sudden burst of anger ignited my body, standing against the chilly air. Catching my breath, tranquility ensued, and my felt myself lean against the stone wall.
