So much goes unsaid. The words I’ve had in my mind but never taken the time to write. I could fill a book, only I haven’t. It will always remain unwritten.

I’m determined to make things work. I’ve got a long list of obligations, but I’ll take them out. I’ll pay down debts; I’ll save for the future; I’ll make a name for myself.

Where did all the time go? It seems only yesterday I was just out of college, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Now, I’m pushing thirty, still trying to figure out what to do with my life. Eash year seems to go by faster than the year before.

The most important key on my keychain is the church key.

Time was running out. In less than a minute, they would be coming around the corner; Jeff needed to be safely inside before then. Why were there so many keys on this keychain? He could never guess the correct key on the first try.

Finally, coach looked over at the bench. The game wasn’t going according to plan. Everyone came out of the game for a spell. Players that normally rode the bench for the entire season entered the game so the coach could spend some time in a loud discussion with his starters of how things had gone wrong.

A mango daquiari. That’s what I need. Maybe I can recapture the summer days — that feeling of sitting on the beach, salty breeze kissing my face. I feel I haven’t seen the sun in months.

I need an outlet for this rage, this helplessness.
The future looms,
dooming me to uncertainty.
I can clearly what ought to be,
but am powerless to change what will be.

The gun fires.
A flare fizzles overhead.
The roar of a plane’s engine
Sang of hope.
The whine as it disappeared

I cringed. I had tried to address the crowd, but the only sound was the terrible screech of feedback from the microphone. This noise clearly did not have the calming effect I had hoped to achieve with words of encouragement. The overwhelming fear in the crowd only grew with the sound.

The crowd grew restless. In the air was a tension that would suffocate. Premiere Feyerodich was not sure how to proceed. His next words must be carefully chosen to prevent a violent outburst. It was probably a lost cause anyway, the clock had run out on his time to rule.

I felt like such a coward. I could have spoken up. I could have done something, but my hands and feet felt frozen to my side. My tongue stuck in my mouth. I could have helped. I could have stopped it, couldn’t I?

The alarm sounded. People started running around. Someone had to keep their cool, but it seemed no one would. As the crowds began worriedly filing out of the building, no one could even answer the question of what was going on.

Terrible headache. Can’t think. So much to take care of, and I can’t even get started. Pills. I’ve got to find my pills. Budget proposal in a half-hour, and I can’t miss this. Where are those pills?

I stood still and ready, watching as the monster observed me, and I him. Suddenly, he began to move toward me. I began losing my nerve. Panic set in. My knees turned to jelly, and indecisiveness swept over me. How had I gotten myself into this in the first place?

The reports were on his desk. He wouldn’t look at them for another hour. He didn’t really need to. There was nothing that could surpise him in those files. Certainly, there was plenty of time for another cup of cheap, government office coffee and a sandwich.

Math is full of mysteries. Many have been solved, but the answers only lead to more questions. Setting myself puzzles and seeking the answers is my path toward discovery. Although nothing earth-shattering has been revealed, this approach helps me to understand the connections within the elegant subject.

The directions we follow. The mix of ingredients, the manner in which they are thrown together. Recipes for cake. Recipes for meat loaf. Recipes for war. Recipes for peace. Recipes for progress. Recipes for disaster.

Blotches. Spots. A Rorshach test. They have no inherent meaning. We put in our experiences and draw the meaning for ourselves. To interpret is to be human.

My hat is pretty ragged. It’s also terribly dirty. I wonder if I’ve ever washed it. Looking at it now, I know I would never buy a hat like that these days. But, it was my first Baylor hat, and I still wear it every chance I get.

Everything fell perfectly into place. The day couldn’t have gone better. The weather was beautiful. She was beautiful. Family and friends were around. And at the end of the day, we could begin our lifelong journey together.

Looking around. What is left to discover? Sometimes I think that everything that’s left to be found has been found. So, what can I build my name on? Humans have been discovering things throughout history. But there is always something more to discover; that’s how we progress.

We all create fiction. It is the way we communicate. The human condition is that memory simply fails us. We don’t have all the details so we fill in the gaps with our imaginations. Thus, we are all writers. We are all tellers of tales.

One phrase begets another. A single turn of phrase can change the world. Or maybe it can’t. A wordsmith makes phrases out of words. This is the craft of a writer. A phrase is the basic building block of the writer’s craft.

I tried. I worked hard. Everything I am went into making this work. This life. And what do I have to show for it? What is there at the end of the day that I can tangibly point to?
