degree

Something I thought was important to me. I stressed and strived for it. My identity is in Christ. A degree is just a piece of paper.

cursed

I was there, on the edge of the brush staring back at the monster behind me. As my feet were close to the edge, I could not move. I looked again. It was right there, with it’s cursed smile and wicked tone. What was I to do now? Her dark pale green eyes made you feel a sense of depression. A sense of death. She was mocking me, and i had nothing to do but fall or give in. Either way, I would die. So I stepped backwards.

couple

the couple walked down the street. It was raining, but she put she held the umbrella over his wheelchair and protected him from the drops pouring from the sky. It was lovely to see him out and around after the accident.

smoking

The fumes rise and you can see,
how the wind moves.
Ironic how the bright sky
can look so much better
with a little bit of black.
Happiness and Toxicity come as one.
So take a deep breath.

quietly

who knew
that love could be quiet
that a constant stir and
a million chemical reactions
could be so loud inside
but result in a silent smile

earrings

she wore her earrings like at any moment someone would steal them. Always grabbing at the bottom beads that dangled. She loved those earrings more than she loved her own mother it seemed. I never saw her without those fucking earrings.

It’s a teardrop.
The metal light refracts off of her neck,
and it disguises
the wrinkles
and lengthens
the smile.
All whilst drawing the eye
away from the very face,
it is meant to accent.

offset

There was an offset to the tires of the speeding car as it rushed past passerbys, leaving their mouths agap from the horror before them. Not only was this car driving at a blood-curling scream, it was also dragging something from behind. A dead body…

defined

John defined the basis of his study in a brisk manner. Paying no attention to the ignorant stares of the crowd below him. He stopped suddenly and his white teeth gleamed as he smiled. He breathed heavily due to his boasting. The crowd waited as the professor’s eyes slowly scanned the crowd. Some held their breath as he began to announce another name. Suddenly there was a shriek from the crowd….

overcooked

My mind is overcooked.
Thoughts smoldering,
ideas burning inside me.
The crisp black taste of
too much
too much.

shells

When I was younger, I used to collect shells. I thought they were the coolest things ever. Beautiful, little masterpieces formed only by the ocean. I’ve been to the ocean once in my life and I was extremely disappointed to not find any. I hope one day I have a child as interested in something as I once was in shells.

spilled

She spilled the green soup across the white page. Damn, she said out loud, feeling her face contort as it so often did these days.

plague

I have never had the plague. This was something that occurred as an epidemic long before my time. My parents were faced with this I believe and I do know that many people died from the plague.

returned

I returned the book into the slot at the desk of the librarian. She looked at me with a stare of disdain. Both she and I knew that the book was long overdue and that I would need to pay a hefty fee for the overdue charges.

husband

What a journey she had travelled with her husband. Unlike her contemporaries who had left, she’d stayed and worked through the crises.

baby

“When is the baby due?”
Oh Patti, he was born last week. You really don’t know much about this business, do you?
“But . . . you still look pregnant.”

master

Master the skill. I wonder how it is that people who work hard, and do master skills, but don’t have certification from an educational institution, are not recognized when searching for work.

scatter

Possessions, friends, thoughts. Everything can scatter. Everything must. We can’t hold onto everything forever. Memories dance away, flimsy and immaterial. All is scattered away, and separated. But, new groups form. New things join together, and create beautiful, new concepts. Only to begin to scatter again.

shown

She had shown me how to do it, and I still didn’t know. It looked simple enough, to see her stitch around the buttonhole, but when I tried to do it, I found myself perplexed.

bury

Bury. Ever wonder about the pronunciation? Should it rhyme with Ferry or Furry? I used to always think it was like Berry, but now I am wondering if that was right.

hundred

A hundred candles. Who knew so many candles could fit on a cake? A hundred years lived, a hundred years wasted. I spent so much time on earth, yet never ave I accomplished anything of significance.

people

People are people. They are the way they are, and they never seem to change. Ignorant they are, ignorant they stay, and nothing can change that, or so I thouth until I met Jaqueline Merrero.

Towers. They rise. And, with the eyes of the world watching, they fall.

whether

Whether or not I did this meant life or death. My life, or her life.

I didn’t know this girl, but what right did I have to make her die. How was my life any more important than hers? But then again, how was hers anymore important than mine.
