The gardener loved the work he was able to do every day. It was dirty, it was sweaty, but it was honorable. It was a time he could evaluate his life. He could mull his problems or he could just think about nothing at all except the smell of the grass and the dirt. Maybe have a very slow conversation with an earth worm or too. It didn’t seem fancy. It didn’t seem special. But, it was his job and he loved that he could do it. Life began in a garden.

The gardener stepped out into the shining sun. He wished he had worn a lighter shirt that day. The forecast was hot, humid, and sunny. Great. Just what he needed. A day to do nothing but sweat. But, there is an upside, sweat brings a cleansing of the body. And with all of the drinking he had been doing lately, he could use a little detoxing. So, he grabbed his shovel and walked slowly over to the garden.

Transitions are hard. There is so much uncertainty. Who can know what is around the corner? Who even wants to? Sometimes ignorance is surely bliss. Sometimes you just can’t help yourself and have to peek anyway. But change? That’s hard too. Where does the strength come from? Where will the courage come from? Transition seems easily, effortless. But it is not. It requires a focus.

Laughy taffy. Taffy girl. Her hair was yellow and stringy. It lacked the shine and luster of real taffy. But I still wanted to pull it and twist it like taffy. heavens no, we must not eat it or put in our mouth. Much like an artichoke. Hairy. Sticky. Prickly. Not fun. Laughy taffy. The greatest candy in the world. My best friend next door.

Taffy candy is sticky and sweet. Shiny and tough all at the same time. Taffy, taffy, walking taffy. Walk with your taffy. Pull your taffy. Sticky teeth, sticky fingers. Teeth sticking together from shiny, sticky, taffy. Taffy that is long and stringy. Sweet and makes your teeth stick together.

The eastern sea was filled with monsters, and one of them had eaten Aiden’s brother. Looking down into her smiling face, he raised his bow and arrow, prepared to make the final blow.

all aboard she said as the men stood at the dock and looked up at her with confusion in their eyes. Why does she want us on the ship so soon? Can’t we stand here and have a few moments without her ordering us around. They growled. She laughed and turned on her heels to march off with delight. They just don’t understand, she thought. If they did, they would hop right on this ship right now and we sail off to our destination.

I applied a second coat of green paint to the chair. I want to darkened it with wax to give it a nice aged look.

Roofs are very weird. I mean, they cover our heads, but they just… I don’t think roofs (or is it rooves?) are very natural. But I suppose they have a human purpose and attachment.

Roof’s are the symbol of shelter. Safety. And I guess that’s what matters.

It chapped my rear end when she ran the red light and nearly smacked the side of my car. Not to mention the dental work. Where did that come from? Who knows. I just know I’m supposed to “not think, but just write” so write it is. Chapped lips can be the worst. As a matter of fact, as I type, my lips are chapped.

she ordered her entree rather quickly without thinking about the cost. She nervously put down the menu hoping he hadn’t noticed how expensive it was. He seemed like such a fussy sort. She wasn’t sure how this date was going to or if she would even stay on it. Maybe her sister could call. Maybe she could call her sister. Hell, maybe she could just get up and walk out the door. There was a Mcdonald’s on the way home.

she was a slight sort. Long blonde hair and green eyes. She walked with a strange gait that caused her right hip to jut forward just a bit. She walked often though. She enjoyed it. She would often think of things in her life that weren’t exactly the way she wanted them to be. Being able to walk, even with a limp, was a gift to her. It was the gift that helped her understand her life.

Now is the time to place the earring in your ear. Today, right now. You must. You absolutely must. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t shine. You will shine. You will glow. It will be an ornament to the universe that you are as beautiful as the earring. doesn’t make sense? Just go with it. really. Don’t stop. Just go with it. Now and forever.

The earring in her ear glistened and shone in the sunlight. The brightness of it caused her to put on her sunglasses. she walked slowly through the glass pondering the wonderous meaning of it all. Why did the earring shine? Why did it cause her feel shocked and afraid? What does it all mean? Really? does anyone know? Does anyone really care. She suspected no did and so she didn’t either.

Her face was severe. Her jawline was sharp and her nose and eyes were small and angular too. Her teeth were grinding together and as she looked in his face. She wsa angry. You could tell by the tension she held in her shoulders. Ah yes, her shoulders, they were up around her ears. Like a parachute or something. What she going to do? Bail on the situation?

the small piece of gravel wedged itself into the bottom of her shoe. though it didn’t hurt, it made for some noisy walking as she continued to trod down the sidewalk.

Funny that something so small could make such a racket. it could also be used as a small piece of chalk I guess as it scratched its way down the road with her.

Give and it shall be given unto you. Pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give unto your bosom.

This is what Jesus told his disciples and anyone who had ears to hear.

I find it interesting that his words still have meaning today. they have meaning because they are based in truth. a truth that God wove into the universe. Some call it Karma. Call it whatever you wish. But the truth is, whatever you sow. you reap.

She applied pressure to the bandage to stop the bleeding. It was a deep cut and bleeding profusely. Much like her heart. So, why did she care if he suffered or even if he died?

Because she loved him. She knew that no matter how deep the hurt or how wide the cut, that she still loved him and would welcome him back into her life. Welcome him back so he could rip her apart again. Why?

When I wish upon a star. I wishd upon many stars as a little girl. I so wanted to be loved and accepted and I was certain the stars could fulfill that wish for me.

Certainly the adults couldn’t do that for me, so maybe the stars held better promise.

I would wish for a boyfriend of all things. As if a boyfriend could fix the hole in my heart and help me to feel good about who I was. I’ve since learned better in my 52 years.

Remember the time I told you I loved you and you cried? It made me cry too. I realized for the first time how little I’ve showed you my heart.

How easy it is to plow through life never thinking about the end. That death will soon swallow us up and life will be over.

Dare not to stand over the grave of the ones you love and try to say the things you should have always said. Don’t fail to remember to tell them how much you love them. Now.

She was my favorite little friend. Always smiling, always willing to lend a hand and always ready to help out.

It’s hard to find someone like that. In fact, it just seems downright impossible sometimes.

yet, there she was. Just shy of perfect and never failing to inspire the deepest and most tender kind of love in my heart.

I should thank God for giving me this child.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.

How could you not type that phrase when seeing the word now? Now is the time. Not tomorrow, not yesterday, not later. Now.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Hmmm, who decided that I wonder? and did they think women should do it too?

Gone are days of such unbridled patriotism.

there is a finite amount of time that all of us have to live. So live we should. yet, most of us, even when we know better live as if there will always be another tomorrow.

Procrastination would cease if we really knew that the next breath we took would be our last or if the day we got out of bed, it would be our last.

She opened the egg carton and took out the last egg. Protein. Guess I need as much as I can get, she thought.

As she tossed the empty container away she noticed a piece of paper wadded up. For reasons she still doesn’t understand, she opened it.

She wishes now that she hadn’t. somethings are just better left alone.

She handed him the milk carton and asked him to rinse it out and put it in the recycling. He siged a heavy sigh wondering if he meant anything else to her except being her handyman and janitor.

He loved her deeply. Always had. But, he wasn’t sure how much longer he could live with the ambiguity.

Wealth. Don’t all wish we had some. As if it would solve all of our problems. Im sure John Travolta would give all of his wealth to have his son back. For jut one day. So would Dr. Dre, I would say.

Wealth. maybe what real wealth is has nothng to do with money, but more of what you value. Love, goodness, kindness, life itself. Truely, nothing you can purchase with money.

Only now did she know it was for her. She had wondered when she opened the box and saw it there……wrapped so beautifully. Could it actually be? No. he had been far too removed and distant lately. Why would he go to so much trouble to do something nice for her.

Did he have something to hide? Something he felt guilty for? Expensive presents usually signal doom.

Gloss it over. That’s what she always says. It’s certainly better than seeing things for the way they really are. ugly. Uncomfortable.

So, it all works in her favor that we live in a world that allows for so much distraction.

Perfect. Never have to face up to anything if you don’t want.

Can’t get any better than that, now can ya?

Round and round in circles the little girls danced when they sang ring around the roses.

their laughter pierced the late afternoon air and the old lady in her backyard smiled when she heard them.

How she missed playing little childish games with no worries. Now, old, gray and bent from arthritis, she could hardly stand to plant a few flowers anymore. Everything just hurt.

Always being held is not always the best place to be. Being held, you can be held back. You can be held in place or you could just be held in space.

When we think of being held, we think it is always a good thing. I suppose it is, as long as you are not held against your will.

That would be unlawful detention or some fancy legal word like that.
