use

The resources are available to use. She walks to the library for books and knowledge, uses the internet for entertainment and opinions. Everywhere she goes, there is information just waiting to be learned.

misty

It was a quiet misty night and the clocks were striking twelve. Harold hurried through the empty London streets. Moisture clung to his overcoat as he

stacks

I just got distracted by a text message so I don’t have much time. Stacks of money. Stacks of cards. Stacks rhymes with racks. I like the song racks on racks on racks. Racks of clothing. I bought jeans today, and nail polish.

average

All the people around me who think more highly of themself are truely just average.

trade

Trade reminds me of the trading that takes place between two small children in daycare or kindergarten. It was always drilled into our heads that trading was good, but who’s to say that trading was always fair? I can think of plenty of times when someone got ripped off on a trade. “I’ll trade you this sucker for your bag of Halloween candy” and without thinking, there went a trade.

thread

So frustrating to thread yarn through a needle. All just fix a hole in your favorite shirt, or to create something beautiful.

statement

making a statement occasionally drives us to do things that we wouldn’t otherwise do. but merely to prove we CAN, we do. whether or not we would freely choose it, we do to prove we are capable of the choice.

revolt

You make my stomach turn, you revolting man. Revolting like rancid scrambled eggs…huevos revueltos podridos. Revueltos sounds close enough to revolt and is equally disgusting. Like you, you fucking lowlife. How could you punch someone in the face who asked you to stop? Someone you supposedly loved and wanted to spend a very long time with? I miss you even though you’re a psychopath but I have to revolt against these tender sentiments I harbour towards you. You are a revolting person.

trees

Trees symbolize so many different things, but to me they show best the interconnectedness of the world. They give us all life, shelter, expression. Trees are the essence of family.

tide

Water washes ashore, slapping the beaches relentlessly. The tide carrying black oil to mix with white sand.

bandage

When we were teenagers and young adults and, oh who am I kidding, just last year, we used this common bathroom accessory as a metaphor for ourselves when our relationships failed. “He needed me but now he doesn’t. He tore me off like a used bandage.” Oh, the angst of self-imposed responsibility.

grid

grid? i just spelled that wrong at first. the word reminds me of math class. in eighth grade for some reason. i don’t know what to say! maybe if i had a grid i could map it out.

convertible

convertible. It means change. or rather changeable. First I think of a car; the soft cool breeze as it blows through my hair when the roof is down. There’s really nothing quite like it. But changeable…many things are changeable, as am I

bulb

“Damn, Gina! Change the light bulb!”

“Why don’t you change it fool?!”

“Cause you’re the one who turned on the light when the bulb when out!”

“Well I only turned it on cause you told me to, now get off your lazy ass and change that lightbulb yo damn self!”

crown

Oh my god your head is bleeding! YOu broke your crown?! That’s one bitchin’ crown of cauliflower. Crowns aren’t really used anymore except at Burger King children’s birthday parties, which are almost as lame as the monarchy was.

flight

She screams “CARLOS!!” and her 55-year old brother jerks up from his chair and jumps about ten feet into the air. She starts telling him to do something and he flies outside to grab the mop. I can’t understand this rapid Spanish but this is definitely a flight.

evidence

your lack of evidence astounds me. where is it? why can’t i find any?. forgive my sarcasim but this is ridiculous! what now are we supposed to do? Time goes on. Well? I’m waiting. What is your solution. And don’t even think about fudging any. That’ll get you in more trouble. Don’t be stupid

wildflower

The album by Tom Petty that has that one song about getting to the point and smoking another joint. That song is great. It reminds me of simpler times, like living in the middle of Missouri and drinking beer with good friends all weekend. All the other songs on that album seem to suck.

towel

I needed a towel after kissing the Spanish man I met last night. What a horrible kiss that was! He covered my face in saliva..it was dripping off my chin. He didn’t feel me trying to escape his wet, soggy clutches. I am scarred forever.

snap

“Oh. SNAP. You did NOT just go there!” he exclaimed. It made her giggle, which made him smile. He loved making her laugh, it was one of the few things he truly tried to do; just to make her happy. It made him happy.

mute

She was mute, it was true. But that hadn’t stopped him from falling in love with her. She had a way of conveying her feelings and thoughts without words better than those who used words. She was smart, pretty, and funny. He didn’t see why people made fun of her for being unable to talk, when that was such an insignificant part of her.

myth

She sat there, considering the nature of truth. After all, a myth could be made into a truth if one could simply convince enough people of it. One definition of truth that horrified her was, “A generally believed statement.” Uhm…that could be anything!

yoga

Up, down. Breathe in, breathe out. The simplicity of yoga was so calming. It made her see the good in the world again. She listened to her breath as if it were the only thing in the world. And for those few moments, it was.

pills

The pills. The pills. Where the hell were the pills? She panicked. What if her mother had found them? What would she say? What could she say? What would her mother do to her? She had no idea, but she decided she’d rather not find out. She started packing.

export

His job was to export. That’s all he did. It was so dull, so horrifically boring, that he nearly cried from doing it. He was sick of it. He wanted to go back in time, re-do his past and save his present self from this horror. He hated himself for getting into this.

options

They were everywhere. There were options about everything. There were options about movies, music, clothes, hobbies. There were too many options. She didn’t understand how one was supposed to go about choosing.

trot

The uppity horses trotted capriciously up Violin Road. Sancho Panza stood hunched at a bar on the corner, watching them with disdain. He was on his fifth cerveza. “I’m gonna steal that white one, yessir,” he thought. He finished his last gulp of beer and wiped his face greedily with his sleep. “Madremia!” he cried, to surprise the horses. “Que bonita eres!” The black horse glared at Sancho and told the white one to run, but the white one stood frozen with fear. Sancho laughed maniacally and jumped on her back in one swift motion. “HYAAAHH!!!”

flour

They don’t have a lot of flour here in Spain, like we do in the states. People generally buy their bread from a store. We buy big bags and eat it daily and bake cookies. Their diet is different. I’ve been smoking so much and drinking such good wine that I feel like I have flour in my lungs. I’ve been coughing up the flour. I have to attribute our over-use of flour to some of the illnesses we have that Spaniards don’t seem to.

orchid

A man I used to loved once brought me an orchid. It was big and black. It looked good enough to eat. I put it on my kitchen counter. Later, when he left, I couldn’t control myself any longer. I picked up the orchid and took a big, juicy bite. It screamed. I felt no remorse. Blood rolled down my face and dripped off my mouth. I took bite after bite until nothing but the stem remained. It had to be done. I can still hear it screaming in my belly.

survive

Some people want to prove to themselves that they are survivors so they get bikes out of dumpsters and ride them from Georgia all the way to Oregon. They stop along the way and pick berries and accept the kindness of random strangers. They look in dumpsters of well-known food chains for sustenance. They attach a shopping cart full of their stuff to the bike: a tent, blanket, water, etc. To bathe, they find bodies of water every week or so. They ignore the dirty looks they receive in public places for their dirty smells. Their immune systems are at one with the wild, tangled up like ivy, fighting, striving, stronger than their weaker counterparts.
