wishing

Wishing never got me anywhere. No boys, no riches, no nothing.
I didn’t see the point in wishing.
until you got sick. I wanted so badly for you to get better that I started wishing for you to recover.
Wishing never got me anywhere. No boys, no riches… No luck.

I stood by the wishing well, looking into its dark depths. The old bricks held many stories, many wishes. I thought of the people who had been to this well…. I wondered how many people had in fact placed a penny in the well, hoping for one thing to come. A wish. I through my own penny in, not wishing for money or love. But wishing for other wishes to come true. That’s all I want, for someone’s wish to come true and for them to be happy.

I never found out if my wish came true, but I know it did. Some where, someone was smiling. Because of me.
That’s the best wish of all.

cannon

I heard the cannon bang, the sound ringing in my ears. The room went silent and dropped what they were doing. I sat staring at the red poppy that was stuck on the wall at the front of the class. I remembered Uncle Jim who had died at war, I remembered him and the people he met. It was their day, the day to remember the heros of our countries.

I heard the cannon fire, I jumped over the wall and ran through the field. The cannon boomed again and I ran faster. I knew I was being chase whether or not I could see them. But I ran. Why did they have a cannon? They were terrible at aiming and would never hit me. But I carried on running.

typewriter

My mother learnt to use a typewriter years ago. They are barely used these days, people use keyboards instead. they are arranged in the QWERTY format with metal circle keys. They use paper. They are heavy. I don’t use a type writer
