commissioned

He commissioned me to do his dirty work–to write his letters, to pay his bills, to do everything that he knew he could do, but simply refused.

entirety

He lived his life in its entirety. And that is all.

colonel

When I was in high school, my favorite dessert to buy in the cafeteria was Colonel Crunch: vanilla and chocolate ice cream bars covered in a cookie crunch. My favorite. Haven’t had one in awhile, but I miss them, and I need to make a point to eat one soon.

improv

We went to an improv place to see what it was all about, and it turns out that a jam band was performing, and that was that.

meanwhile

Meanwhile, she did this. Meanwhile, he did that. Meanwhile between their meanwhiles, they were eating dinner at a fancy restaurant, looking at each other through the bottom of shot glasses. Meanwhile, I was sitting at home, thirsty.

Geometric. Metric. Geo. Geometric.

Geometric: a word not appearing in my vocabulary.

typhoon

Typhoon me. Hurricane me. Tornado me. Let’s be natural disasters, baby.

» Posted By Kayla Pongrac On 12.03.2013 @ 7:26 am

There’s a typhoon in your mind, and there’s nothing I can do to prevent it from wrecking and spreading and becoming quite contagious.

derive

Where the word derives, he forgets. Where we have derived, she will always remember.

ferry

We took a ferry to the island where the seagulls soar above beachhatheads and the waves crash against manicured toenails. We were happy there, hugging each other in the water, playing air guitar on the shoreline, and then the next summer we didn’t talk at all.

selling

I don’t know what she’s been selling online, but apparently it’s been enough to pay her bills, and she tells me that she’ll never just “cash out,” so I’m assuming she doesn’t need my financial assistance come wintertime. This makes my heart feel all spring-like.

Came to my door, selling, and there were magazines and cookies and candles, so I didn’t know what to do or what to buy and, then, I wasn’t sure what to wear.

television

I think, sometimes, we watch too much television. Plop ourselves down on the couch, make some popcorn to shove in our faces, and before you know it, it’s after midnight and I’m asleep, trying to get our TV to forgive me.

defended

She defended her, and I defended him, and he defended his dog, and I defended my aunt, and my aunt’s dog defended the entire house.

Irreverent. Irrelevant. Irresponsible. Which are you?

sandcastle

There’s a photo of him at the beach, on his knees, digging his hands into the soft sand, making a sandcastle with his best friend’s child. I keep staring at that picture, keep looking at his knees. His white knees. The knees that get close to mine every night, miles away from that ocean.

disciple

Every time she hears the word “disciple,” she thinks of the word “discipline,” and she wonders who amongst her will show her the right ways, the wrong ways.

When he wanted his disciples to pass the ball, they did. It became customary for him to always get the ball, to land the lay-up. Long live that team.

hero

She always said that Hercules was her hero. I couldn’t disagree more, as she reminded me nothing of Hercules, and didn’t appear to even know how to correctly spell his name.

My sister says her favorite body part is the knee. I disaknee. I love the mouth–the tongue, the teeth, the way he uses that lovely body part to smile at me.

barricade

I tore the barricade down, threw all the pieces around, and then stomped on them all, just for good measure.

Word of advice: don’t ever barricade your heart.

oil

He gargled the oil–and then swallowed the oil–and then told me that it would help loosen up his bones. I stood in wonder, in fascination, looking at this man, trying to figure out how I could get him an application for the circus.

My favorite Super Mario Bros. joke: What is Super Mario’s favorite type of clothing?

Denim denim denim! Denim denim denim!

He was talking about compounds and chemistry and I was lost–so lost. So very, very lost. This is coming from a girl who still does math by counting on her fingers.

border

Hello? Who are you? You’re just standing there–at the border between love and hate. Cross the fence. Come over here. What are you doing? Graffiti king? Graffiti hate king? No. You’ll see. You’ll see–one day, it will all be about love, and you’ll walk with the rest of us.

The eastern view–that’s the view he has disregarded. He’s all west now, all south now, all north. Everything but eastern, everything to the right. I don’t know how he does it.
