fisherman

The waves crashed over the bow of the tiny boat as the storm hit its peak. Tossed and thrown upon the ocean, the fisherman struggled with the nets.

peppers

The small hot peppers hung from the plant, ready to picked. My basket was almost full and my wife, Mrs. Piper was calling for me to come to dinner. Would I get a full peck picked?

polar

The polar opposite of myself would be someone who was bi-polar because I am strictly uno-polar. I am always positive.

blamed

He blamed her for his lack of feeling. He blamed her for his inability to communicate. He blamed her for the cold feeling in his chest. Why he married her he couldn’t remember. Then he burped and all was better.

arthritis

My mother suffers from arthritis and sometimes it makes me worry and fear the day it may afflict me. Having constant pain in my joints is not something I want to have to experience. I feel bad that my mom has to put up with arthritis.

stilts

That man is walking on stilts. This is quite a shocking revelation to come to as you are sitting in your car at a light and the man in question is crossing the street in front of you. Wow. That man is walking on stilts…

antithesis

God how I hate getting a word like antithesis when I decide to exercise my incredibly poor writing skills by visiting oneword.com. A word like antithesis creates a mental block that prevents me from even being able to recall the actual meaning of the word and I’m not that stupid. oneword.com you are cruel…

mumbling

I kept mumbling my excuse over and over again like it would make it true. I knew I had messed up. I knew what I had done hurt someone I cared about. But I didn’t want to take responsibility. I just kept hoping that repeatly mumbling my lame excuse would make it all go away.

bricks

It is important to build a house out of bricks as opposed to sticks or stones because if you don’t, a wolf will come by and blow it down and eat your pigs. At least that’s what they tell me.

winged

The winged ones are those who can take to the skies. In Native American legend, it is the winged ones who are the messengers between human and other earth bound creatures and the spirits in the sky.

salesman

As a business owner, I find myself regularly becoming a salesman for the company. I usually do not like trying to sell something to anyone, but i truly believe we offer a great product as a fair price, so playing the role of a salesman is not so bad.

systems

There are systems to achieving ones goals. Whether they work or not is always a question. We are meant to question because it is part of a system of achieving an answer.

cool

Cool people are seldom as cool as they seem. They are often just being themselves and their “coolness” depends on whether or not they fit your impression of what cool is. So be yourself. Many people find that cool.

politician

Politicians are not worth the carbon they use to exist. I believe we have a serious problem with our government and the politicians who are in the pants pocket of every corporation in America who donate money to their campaigns. This will be the downfall of the middle class and America.

promise

I so often promise myself I will change to be the person I want to be, but so often I fail to keep that promise. Why do I say I want to be a certain way, to be a better person, but when it comes to executing and being that person, I fail so miserably?

barrel

A barrel of fun is a rather peculiar phrase considering that fun is not something that one can easily put into a container of any shape or size. It must come from the Germans who keep fun in the form of bier!

five

Five times was the number. Five times he tried to reach the top of the cliff but his strength was gone. He felt himself slipping until he completely lost his strength and plunged into the abyss.

living

In living one’s life, it is important to live in a good way. Each day should be devoted to helping others and not focused on the self. When we live as though each day is the last, we live a fuller life.

patient

The patient waited patiently in the waiting room with the other patients. The nurse poked her head from behind the door and called, “Mr. Johnson!” I looked around and saw no one move, so I jumped up. Turns out I was hard of hearing and didn’t know it.

Is this seat available? asked the young lady. He jerked up from his paper to see a short, frumpy looking woman in her mid-30s. Of course it is, he replied.

methods

There are many methods to my madness. My mind is not like others in that it really cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is not. So to run over someone in my imagination may actually be in reality. Strange as it sounds, it makes for an interesting day.

July

It was a hot July day with the sun burning down on the couple as they lie in the sand on the beach. The waves crashed on the shore as they spoke quietly about what they needed to do once they got back home. Can’t anyone enjoy their vacation?

higher

I am a big advocate of higher education. I never went to college and now, at the age of 50, I look back and feel I could have been much more financially comfortable if I had gotten a college degree. Which is why my son is going to college.

cook

The short order cook at the diner looked as if he had stepped out of a movie. Greasy apron, stubbly face, big meaty hands. He stared at me as i averted my eyes. I didn’t notice that my gaze had been so fixated.

himself

How do you even use himself in a sentence. This is a very tough writing exercise for today with a word like himself. I am totally drawing a blank so I have diverted the topic over to the difficulty of writing about the word himself.

past

The past often haunts me. Making me always regret things I have done and making me feel insecure. I must learn to not let this happen. The past is what has been but not what will be. I try to remember but always feel that i am not where I could be if my past had been different.

under

I went under a tree to escape the heat of the day and noticed many things I would normally have not given a second glance. Under this massive tree, the air was cool and life flourished for the creatures that were escaping the sun.

library

I went to the library and found a book on poetry that was very interesting. As I sat reading poem after poem, my mind lost track of time and soon the library was closing. I enjoyed that afternoon, alone with the thoughts of a poet.

Yesterday, I went to the library to find a book about libraries around the world. While I was there, I went on the Internet and found all the information I needed about libraries. Interestly, i could have found this information at home!
