police

A complicated issue
that isn’t really complicated
why can’t people understand that
Police are people too

What happened to that 7 letter word?

other

Who really becomes “the other”
when a new relationship begins
and the old ends
but neither is official yet

The Husband or the Boyfriend?
The Wife or the Mistress?
Does the answer lie in the eye of the beholder?

These are the thoughts I think
when I am alone
pondering on the words that I have become
and what life has made of me.

construction

Construction paper: my kids used to call it “instruction paper” when they were little. We never constructed anything with it, and it never instructed us. Neither name for it was very good. It ought to be called “Christmas tree garland paper,” how it’s good for the colorful chains with the with the interlocking rings.

stalled

Before Maya can get over her indignation, gravity falters. Her feet suddenly lift, and her center tips over towards Jake.

stern

The man looked stern. His hair was swept back in a gelled curve, his mustache artfully hiding his upper lip. His lips are pressed tightly together as he looks straight ahead.

cone

Stella couldn’t do anything but stare at her $5 ice cream cone that was now laying, raspberry ice cream side down, on the ground. The cone seemed to stare up at her in laughter, as if it had jumped from her hand on purpose.
That had been the last of her allowance for the month, too. She had worked hard, dusting her Mother’s endless amount of bookshelves, cleaning the window shutters, scavenging for her brother’s dirty socks and throwing them laundry whenever she found them (she had never understood why he had so many, or why they seemed to pop up in the oddest places around the house).
Now it was all in vain as the pinkish cream melted into the concrete. She knew she should’ve bought something else, but she had been hungry, and she’d been curious about the flavor.

instant

in an instant
all of those kisses, hugs, hand holds
All of our smiles and laughs
Are turned to sour frowns and anger
Into sadness and hopelessness

That instant changed everything

Or so it would seem
For in that instant, as awful as it was
all those years were condensed into an instant
Reminders of how spectacular we can be
How much love we have

So despite the pain
The tears and confusion
That instant also made my love for you
And the importance of us
Much more clear

motor

I had to motor to the coast so that I could catch up to him. He was way ahead of me and I knew I would have to find a short cut to get there. He had alluded me and it had taken great detective work to find where he had escaped to. It was all up to me.

Failure to be productive
To move forward
Not for lack of trying
Nor lack of will
But because a routine to help
Became routine to maintain
Because an artistic muse
Became too bored to stay and
Left
Leaving you out to dry
Clinging on helplessly, failing to wring
progress out of the only thing
You have left

bathed

The CD candles worked perfectly.

Chris slipped her toes from underneath the bubbles, a slight chill flowing over them as they pushed her glowing DIY project around the soothing lavender water. The CDs helped the tea lights to stay afloat, giving a perfect ambiance to her new, broken bathroom. Sure, the ceiling had holes in it, the hot water in the sink only worked some of the time, and some white tiles had been replaced with red, blue and green ones, making the bathroom light up like a Christmas tree. But it had one thing that previous apartment bathroom, with all of it’s shimmering, shining showered glory didn’t have.

She sank into the bathtub of her new house, recalling her excitement at signing the papers earlier that day. Her toes sank back into the glowing, bubbly water, tingling as warmth flooded back into them.

She was home.

parking

The parking lot flooded in the rain, all the refuse going down to the sewer. Runoff, oil, trash, debris. Garbage, all of it, intent on contaminating our water supply. At fault? The humans who are too lazy to clean up after themselves. Thanks, guys, you’re really making a difference in the world.

middle

“Stuck in the middle with you” came on the radio while we drove down the highway from Nowhere to Somewhere.

We were stuck in the middle of the country, in the middle of the desert, in the middle of another kind of Nowhere. But I didn’t want to be anywhere else.

grounded

I first thought about grounded as someone who is level headed and solid in their thinking. But I expect that my teens will think of grounded as a word that deals with punishment and isolation. As in, something was done wrong and now I am grounded. I wish to be grounded in my thoughts living without fear of the present or the future.

delighted

“Delighted to meet you,” he said, taking my hand and shaking it vigorously. It was sweaty and clammy and I tried to be discreet as I wiped it away on my shirt.

He took his seat and I took mine. He spoke, he continued to speak. I said nothing. And at the end, as I rose, he offered me a ride home. I said, “I’d be delighted to decline.”

chips

One of God’s greatest ideas to man
Salty, crunchy, tasty
Could eat a whole bag in one sitting
Rough on the tongue
But a satisfying snack

Too bad they can make you fat

mezcal

This is a wonderful drink. I wish I had one in my hand right now…while I sun myself on a tropical beach with a nice breeze blowing over me and my forever love by my side. I can see the crystal blue waters and hear the sound of the waves on the shore in my mind.

done

Well the day is done. I am pretty happy about that. It was a long and somewhat rough day. Soon the winter break will be done and for once I am happy the kids will be back to school. Which is not normal for me and makes me kind of sad.

longing

My One Word for today is Longing. I suppose you could say I have a longing to better myself and improve my lifestyle but really really struggle at sticking to any written or desired goals. I long to be a fitter, healthier person but mental health always kicks me down once I’ve come up with sustainable plans for doing this. I have a longing to improve almost every aspect of my life.

undo

My One Word today is Undo – I suppose the easiest thing to write about is things that I can’t undo, things that have happened in the past and the mistakes that I’ve made. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life and I’m not proud of them, or of myself for them. I don’t see myself as a good person, and deserve all the bad karma that comes my way and probably don’t deserve any good karma for a long long time
