i walk into a a huge cathedral located in the middle of manhattan. outside people are running trying to make it to work, drinking coffee, screaming on their phones. but inside. its quite. i don’t have a religion. i don’t believe in a god. but this place emits peacefulness and serenity.

st. peters cathedral in some place. they’re normally huge churches. you can’t find any modern day cathedrals because the craft is dead. in order to find a mason as good as the ones in the medieval time period you’d have to hunt down an old skilled worker in europe. they normally have intricate wood workings and arches.

The darkness consumed her as she sat there not only hearing but also listening to her girlfriends screams. Guilt filled her body but what was she supposed to do? How could she protect her? She was already beaten half to death and, soon, her girlfriend would be too.

She couldn’t control it anymore. She’s spent most of her life being bullied and mistreated; she was on edge and didn’t know how much more she could control herself. Her temper ran short and her heart was breaking.

She could barely function as the weekend passed her by. The sky changed from blue to black in what seemed like an instant and the clouds moved as if they were racing away. The world was moving by as she watched it.

Below the tree lied a book filled with all the wonders of the universe. She loved the book more than life itself; it took her to where she needed to be, who she wanted to see, and what she would have never known otherwise.

The morning air was crisp. Everything seemed so delicate to her. She felt as if she could simply touch the morning dew and the whole world would fall apart.

The sparkling cider set on top of the dining room table. She politely sipped it throughout the evening, thinking only of the night she connected it to. Fighting back tears, she tried to put on the facade that she was enjoying the evening.

They called me a savage; they called me a lot of things but I knew who I was and I didn’t care. I knew the wind would take me somewhere special — somewhere they wouldn’t show prejudice against me. I wasn’t them. I was different. So what?

The oil had been thrown into the house on a whim. As she walked away, she lit the match and tossed it. Vibrant flames filled the sky and cloud of smoke filled the air.

A dozen red roses laid at her doorstep along with some sort of calling card. She bent down to read it. “I’ll be coming for you next.” The past few months she had feared for her life but this was the first time it had been made a reality. Everybody else was dead and she was ready to die too.

The apron laid across the kitchen table. An entire day of cooking had gone to waste but she didn’t mind. She’d missed her husband while he was gone and he was home; that was all that mattered. She welcomed his gentle touch.

As she stared at the stars, her delicate fingers traced the rose and its thorns. She often wonders how something so beautiful could be so painful, just as he wondered about her.

Her screams were muffled by the duct tape over her mouth. The man had seemed so innocent earlier, reading his book and drinking his coffee. She had been so eager to meet him and so happy to see his face. Her tears wouldn’t stop and, try as she might, she struggled to fight her way out of his trunk.

She strolled along the bridge, holding his hand in hers. It was the happiest she’d felt since that day on the roof; the world had felt like it was caving in but here she felt at home. The tragic mistake she often worried about, however, was how long it would take him to forget.

Her skin tingled with an intense sensation as the blood dripped onto the bathroom floor. Her eyes were filled with fear while she sat, holding her arm. In it was one single word, carved into her body as a horrific reminder — “slut”.

Her surrounding flew by her in a blur. She ran as fast as she could, heals clopping on the solid ground beneath her. Nobody had ever seen her in such a hurry but tonight was a special occasion — her partner was having their baby and she was going to be there to see that beautiful face.

The blood slowly drips down her body; years and years of torture consume her. They scar her mind and corrupt her thoughts. The room starts to fade away as she falls to the floor.

The centerpiece was elegant and beautiful; it was everything it should be. The only thing I remember from that night was looking at that centerpiece thinking, “Why can’t the world be as lovely as this?”

To obey is to follow direction but what if it makes you unhappy? What if the direction you need to obey makes you so miserable? Do you still do it? I have no desire to do what will make me unhappy, for my goal is to be the happiest I ever can be.

The light were dim and the soft sounds of his voice filled my ears. All I ever thought about was him; the sound of his breath, the warmth of his skin, and the peace his heartbeat brought me. Nothing could compare. We were irrevocably and undoubtedly in love. Years of unfinished thoughts and painful goodbyes formed into one moment, fantastically freeing.

From cultural differences to emotional differences, sacrifice means a lot to each individual person. I, myself, have sacrificed friends and family for personal gain while other sacrifice personal gain for friends and family. It is one of the biggest variables in what makes people unique from one other; the door to morals and values.
