ghosts waltz through the snow and leave traces of their former self.
footprints leading up to my door.
thick bushes caked in white.
uncertain cars on dangerous roads.

the mop slipped lazily on the floor. the handle was in slow motion, a stop motion movie at two frames per second.

hotel lobbies speak to me
in strange tongues.
the people around me crave to be anywhere but
here, seeking solace in champagne and swinging
chandeliers, beds that have been slept in by others just like

her tears started fading when the morning light filtered through her tattered curtains.
she blinked one eye open and blearily shifted her gaze to the scratches on her chest.
they had healed quickly, leaving only faint white ghosts of their former selves.
ghosts of what they used to be.
the bruises on her thighs were now putrid greens and bloody blues.
the gash on her arm had swelled up but seemed to be getting better.
she rolled over in twisting floral sheets to grab for a bottle of wine she knew to be on the nightstand.
uncorked it and took one sip to wake up, the next for good luck.
finally forced her legs onto the dusty hardwood floor and commanded them to walk her to the bathroom.
the faucet turned on with a blink.
a new day.

when i first met her
holding our breath beneath a sea of stars
she hated that she couldn’t breathe
then i held her hand
and showed her the pointy cactus coral
the sun bleached seashell skulls
and the fluorescent snakes swimming through the sand.
she didn’t seem to mind
our constant underwater expedition
when we shared oxygen
beneath the galactic waves.

your face gets all red and scrunched up when you’re angry. you think it’s ugly but i think it’s kinda cute, the way you’re so irritable about every little thing. scratch that, i don’t think it’s cute, i think it’s adorable. of course, telling you this will just make you angrier.

the cactus was facing west when i saw her.
she seemed about to take flight
sunset colors that outshone the moon
eyes so bright i thought they were my salvation
musical hands and a weathered perseverance.

desert drenched stomach
wrinkled eyes
cactus lungs
sharpened tongues
western drought
changes the horizon

can you relate?
do you know empathy
like i know the sound of you leaving my room?
can you feel the tears in my eyes
as they drip on your haphazard footprints and mix with the dust on the floor?

i relate to the sunflowers that float on the sea
the shells under the surf
the sand stuck in your hair
your best friend that you’ve loved since childhood
the clementines you share on the beach
i also relate to the fact that this poem is horrible i’m sorry bye

clockword clutters itself in the sharpened nooks and crannies of memories
brushed away like wasted tears and eraser shavings
gears shift and cogs grind and the wind howls down a lonely street.

every time i’m with you
my legs turn to jelly.
it’s clockwork, really
strawberry marmalade stuck in my cogs
stumbling replies and sticky shoes
laughter caught in time
like a wasp in amber.

yesterday’s word, what are you doing here?
i thought i left you long ago.
the fields were wide and twice as mean
as you were to me in the archipelago.
i don’t know what i’m writing
but it’s better than biting (my nails)
this makes no sense.

fields as long as the night sky
and twice as hungry
starry crevices form this eyelashes of daffodils and those puffy white wishing flowers.
i remember to forget how hungry the fields were
because they stole my breathe and my words too.

fields stretch on
and on
and on
but i can’t seem to catch them.
the fleet past the corners of my eyes
they gather on my cheeks and i brush them away
i scratch my nails and there they are
but i can never capture them
no matter how hard i try.

i walk through the fields with my friends.
everything is fine, we pick flowers and hold hands.
a storm cloud is on the horizon, we run inside.
i like the summer when it’s mine.

imagine wandering around with no centre. your concentric circles just centre around your nomadic soul instead of from your front door… your axle is eternally wandering, cold and tired.

you gotta help the homeless. “help the homeless?” “money to feed the homeless?” we always shake our heads, tight-lipped smile… a fake look, trying to forget they’re human. but they are. aren’t they?

I don’t have any leverage, I thought. Getting out of this god forsaken mess was a problem. I didn’t even know how I’d gotten INTO it in the first place. Andy snapped his fingers in front of my eyes, and I blinked.
“Hello? Were you even listening?”

I could see the lights from all of the cities we passed over, like beacons in through the dark. The airplane was high enough to see the ocean as well, and I was glad the night had turned out clear. I glanced around me, and the empty seat next to mine seemed to be crying out for an occupant. I look around for my brother, but I assumed he had probably gone to the bathroom.

Thinking hard, I chewed on the end of my pencil. I couldn’t concentrate on anything the test said; my mind was on him. But I pushed those thoughts out of my mind, and tried to conjure the answer from the back of my mind.

A young man appeared out of thin air. His dark hair shone in a streetlamp. He looked about him, and found he was in a village square, in the country. He quickly conjured a flask out of his pocket. Examining it’s label, he squints in the shallow, yellow light. He takes off briskly towards a small hut off to his left.

I remember when I was a kid I would always take my brother to the playground near our home. Fighting for who would get the swing first. Playing grounders. This word brings back great memories.

You have no evidence. What is this? A fucking episode of CSI? Evidently you have no evidence.

i already wrote about this goshdarnit. it makes me think of straw hats, and sunny days and picnics with the man you’re going to marry, and then your sunny house with beautiful children and maybe something tragic happening but you still look gorgeous and wonderful, and as tragic as it may be its going to be okay.

a cruel selfish person, creepy, awful, hurtful, wrong.

Like that Twilight episode. “You are obsolete.” That was a good one…

i was writing a document and then when i had to print it out, i clicked print on my computer. but i have a really crappy printer so it said f u basically. so i had to go through this whole process where i emailed the document to my mom and then i had to go upstairs and then print it out from her computer which is very frustrating because i have to do that every single day, and that takes a lot of time.
