The cost of something is how much you need to pay to get that thing. Like, ‘The tomato cost 50 cents.’
‘The wagon cost 50 dollars.’

A gesture is a motion that can attract people’s attention.
‘The King gestured to his servants to bring him his dinner.’
‘The little girl gestured for her sister to come over to her.’

“Jimmy,” said Ms. Carter, the teacher of the second grade, “Please right the sum of 4 and 8 on the chalkboard.”
Jimmy stood up and walked over to the large, black board on the wall, and wrote down the math problem.

A ukulele is a like a small guitar. My mom really loves the ukulele and wants to learn how to play one. She mostly wants to this because one of her favorite actresses plays one.

The things that you do will have consequences. Like, if you take out the garbage. That is consequential, because later, you won’t have to do it and you can do something else. But, they can also be bad. If you put off cleaning your room, that is consequential, because then later, you will have to do it when you could be doing something else that you would rather do.

“Agh!” cried Jamie. He was trying so hard to pull his loaded wagon back to his house.
It was filled to the brim with books, toys, and rocks. (Who knew what those were for?)
“This is the toughest job ever!” he said, tugging even harder.

Lucy was out in her back yard. She had a very large back yard, with flowers scattered all over it. Lucy’s favorite thing to do was to gather those flowers.

Vertical means, standing straight up. Like, if you put two pencils on the table facing up, they are vertical. If two trees grew next to each other, they are vertical.

Anne was reading furiously, pages turning as fast as lightening. Her sister Marge walked in.
“Anne,” she said.
No answer.
“What, what?” said Anne, startled.
“Why didn’t you answer me?” her sister asked.
“Sorry,” said Anne, “This book has the best plot ever!”

Market is another word for grocery store. I love going to the market. We usually go on Saturdays all together.
The word Market was commonly used in the 50’s and 60’s and probably before, but is rarely used now.

Handlebars, very interesting things. Some lead to happy, fun places, others lead to scary, nasty places. What happy places have your handlebars led you too?

I love squirrels. We have a lot of them where we live. I have even written a story about them. I think they are really cool, and they are very smart. They bury nuts in the ground so they will have food for the winter.

An outlet can be a couple different things. It could be an electrical outlet to power something, or it could be a place. For example, an outlet could be a swimming pool that you can go to, or a library.

Hillsides usually have flowers growing on them. They are very fun to draw, and I have drawn many. Hillsides are very picturesque, and make a lovely picture.

Insulting people is very wrong, and I would hate to have it happen to me. I don’t think I have ever seriously insulted any one, I hope I haven’t. Insulting people is a way of bullying.

I think you should be especially polite to people that you are just meeting, but I also think that you should be polite to people you know very well. Even your siblings, however hard that may be.

I think jealousy is wrong. I am not saying that I have never been jealous, I have, but I think that you should be happy for the other person instead of worrying about not having what they do. Don’t be jealous.

I have six cousins. Four live right here in Nampa, and the other two live in cascade, which is two hours away. I will be seeing all of them on Sunday when we go over to their house to celebrate birthdays. Ethan is turning 12 and Abigail is turning 9.
