There’s no need to be square. I know how you feel. You have been honest from the start, but I just didn’t listen. I know, I know, but once again, your mistakes are all my fault.

When she received his letter, it wasn’t from him. She stood on her doorstep, watching as the officer with the white cap handed her his letter and an American flag. His medals would be received later, but to her they didn’t matter. What was the point of receiving them if she couldn’t have him?

The guard was a stone statue. Over a hundred feet tall, with a marble sword in one hand and a perfectly round shield in the other. The guard identical to him was set on the other side of the gate, their eyes both staring straight ahead. Past the gate between them was a beautiful castle that they would forever protect; even through it’s downfall.

I’ll never forget the steps at my old home. They were steep and narrow, and seemed to go up forever. It didn’t help that they creaked whenever you stepped on them. But maybe the house was part of the problem. It was old and I hated it. But not as much as those long, frightening steps.
