The wind whipped at her hair as she stuck her head out of the open window, drawing some annoyed glances from other passengers in the car; she couldn’t find it in her to care. This was her moment – her new adventure, new beginning, and if she wanted to stick her head out a window then she could. This was it! The city stretched out before her, faint glowing lights on the horizon, promising her wondrous things, dreams, dances, moments, adventures. She was ready for it all. From the moment the conductor had called “All aboard!” hours before, she was ready. From the moment she bought the ticket. From the moment she first started planning. First started dreaming. Here was that fulfillment.

The battle raged around the blood-spattered king, his mouth set in a snarl and his sword chipped from the force he had been putting on it for the last few hours, but he was tiring. This kind of fight – one he’d never intended to get into – was too much for a man of his age. As he finally fell, a battle ax protruding from his back, he hoped against all hope that his sons would be able to carry on, that they would cease their fighting and that their intense rivalry would not tear his beloved country apart. His body hit the ground, and a roar went up from all sides; calls to avenge him, calls for the enemies’ blood, and two twin calls of grief. Half an hour later all forces were dispensed of and the fallen king’s sons stood over their father’s body, one with tears dripping into his shaggy beard, the other stone-faced and cold. “So. It begins…”
These are the words that began one of the most intense power-struggles in the history of the nation. Beliefs as well as armies clashed as they tore each other apart, waiting desperately for one son to end it all.

Her paint-splattered jeans and windswept hair, carelessly thrown over a shoulder adorned by a patchwork bag gave an aura of creativity to her person. The paintbrushes and Macbook sticking out of said bag furthered the look, but it would have taken an in-depth look to see how carefully put-together the whole ensemble was.

She stared defiantly at the man before her before turning on the heel of her golden sandal and walking to the cherry red convertible, cranking the engine, and driving away. A tightening of her jaw, a defiant set to her hips, a lifting of her chin were the last things he saw. She had ignored everything that her stupid heart had yelled at her, listening instead to her own brain. It had taken all her spirit, but she had done it, had freed herself. This was to be her new philosophy, that anything could be accomplished if only she had will enough to follow through to the end, much like she used to tell herself in her cross country races in high school. It was with a lightened heart, a sense of optimism, and an iron-clad resolve that she left him behind for good.

She put her sandaled feet up on the dashboard and linked her fingers with the other girl, sharing a quick glance between the two of them, full of hope and promises. Freckled skin and sunglasses, the car speeding away towards their dreams matched the hope that filled their young bodies.

The sprinkle of flour on her nose only made her more endearing to him as she whirled around after he tapped her shoulder. He studied the freckled, powder-dusted face before him, and deciding once again that he’d never seen anything more beautiful (even after all these years), he gently placed his lips on her surprised ones.

vines, wrapping around her arms, wrapping around her legs, pulling her down deeper and deeper into the abyss of her own self loathing and hatred of the ones around her. she kept trying to grab one, pull herself up, swing away like tarzan, but it was just. too. hard.

It has been prophesied that you would come, young one. The girl with the fiery hair looked up from her kneeling position at the queen of the fae and met her eyes. “I intend to fufill the destiny your people outlined for me eons ago.” With that, her fate was sealed, and she stood up, ready to take her place among her own kind.

There was a warning, whispered through the halls, whispered in my ears, whispered in my head. “Don’t do it,” the voices warned, but I walked slowly on, making my way past the locked, white-washed doors to the one third from the end on the right, where I turned to face the small, dingy window before turning the knob and letting it creak open.

His expression was one of pained grief as he looked his wife in the eyes. The nurse was yelling “Push!” and every part of his own body wished he could take her pain away. Finally it was over and the underdeveloped child was presented to the anguished couple.

The ultimate sacrifice, the truth will eventually come to life, ripping from your mouths like a fire, burning in your souls like a flame that just can’t be hidden. Truth is the end all and be all of everything. THIS is the here and now, this is what everything boils down to. There’s no escaping and no hiding once it is shared. The question is: what is it?

The smog filled air smothered the city, clogging the lungs of the people who lived there, getting into the wash hanging on the lines, into the food being brought in from the country. It was dirty, and yet so full of life. People screaming at each other from open windows across the street, children running anywhere they pleased, and me, standing there, taking it all in.

She was that kind of girl, the one who is overt about all of her attractions, going up to any and all males leaning aggressively on the bar, shouting for drinks. She’d show a little of this, a little of that, and they’d be following her out. But he sat in the corner, just watching the show every Friday night.
