The crimson glass shattered into a million pieces as the young girl just stood there and watched.
She felt no pain, though it was her heart that had broken. There, separate from her own body, the one thing that had kept her alive for the past decade, broken.
A strangled cry forced its way out of her mouth, and she fell to the floor.

“This is not funny! Guys, seriously!”
Eli all but shrieked as his friends carried him across the field towards a catapult that they had bought a week ago. How did they even get a catapult?
One thing’s for sure, it’ll hurt like hell if they missed the thin mattress set up a bit further down.

Don’t you fret, my dear,
It’ll all be over soon,
I’ll be waiting here,
Please don’t go… . . . . .

His hand trembled, reminiscent of an earthquake. Sweat dripped down his face like bullets.
His scribbles were slow and deliberate, and yet his name was out of shape and wobbly.
Of course it was, for he was more nervous than ever before. Why wouldn’t he be? He’d just signed his death warrant.

A city I’ve never visited before, it held a lot of mysteries for me. An uncertain future. Who knows? Perhaps one day, I’ll call the place my home.
A place where the stories come and tell me that I’ve much to see in the world yet. And much to learn.

The only sounds I could hear in the almost perfect silence of the night was my pouding heartbeat and the resounding thuds of my feet on the pavement.
I’m being followed.
My breath came in short ragged burst. I’d been running for quite a while, trying to escape the man chasing me who (I was sure) was well off his rocker.

The blade sliced a line of coldness into her skin, but she felt no pain. Instead, she felt the release of emotion that only came when she decided to mutilate herself.
It was a drug to her. Though a taboo and wrong in the eyes of others, she loved it.

Her hair was like fire.
The way it blew in the wind made her look like she was burning, and yet it made her look like the most beautiful person in the world.
Forget Katniss Everdeen; this is the Girl on Fire.

The thought of being alone forever loomed over her, choking her.
The curse was impossible to break, she knew.
So for the rest of her life, she was to be in isolation.

Bubbles filled the bathroom.
It’s funny. Even at the age of eighteen, I still have so much fun making soap bubbles.
There’s some thing about the fragility of the bubble that makes me wonder about life and where I stand in this world.
Like the soap bubble, could I possibly just pop out of existence?

The only word to describe my feelings at that moment was
this: messy. I took a deep breath, then let it out. The only way I
was going to be able to work this out to simplify things. From a
mess, into a neat and tidy space where everything’s all sorted out
in boxes and alphabetised.

Flames flickered along my fingers, sending curls of smoke into the air. I was suffocating; but I didn’t care.
I was burning; but I could barely feel the pain it caused.
All I felt was r e l i e f
After this, I can be free.

(I can’t believe I’m writing this this way)
Movie ratings, show ratings. They’re numbers that show how popular something is. And I’m desperate and a failure. Kthxbai

The timeline of my line is not straight. It’s hardly a line at all, unless you consider multiple circles joining and winding in on each other a line.
History repeats itself. Sometimes, I think it can’t be helped.
Will it happen again?

Bubbles burst to life as the effervescent pill dropped into the water.
Foam formed and a slight spray of air came at me when I put my face near the surface.
For whatever reason, being able to see the pill dissolve made me feel grateful.

Riot ensued. Not in real life, of course. Just in my brain.
All the interviewer had asked was just a simple question. One that I knew I could answer without any problem or hesitated. But here’s the problem: I hesitated.
Maybe it’s the panic that had been plaguing me these past few days. Maybe it’s how formal the situation is.
I started to speak anyway.

If there’s one thing I hate the most, it has to be crows.
Black and noisy, they sat in a murder on the bare skeletal tree that was outside my window. They were there every day.
No matter what I did to get rid of them, they would still come back.
Maybe they were an omen, telling me that I would soon perish like all the others in this dead village.

Folded tight into each other,
never to be broken.
tied together by fate,
A symbol of forever.

Pain, numbing pain.
I could feel nothing but the white hot pain as my vision went black.
Death by electrocution is not pleasant. Not pleasant at all.
Bye bye, world.

One more strike. One more strike and I’ll win one thousand bucks. Just one more strike.
His thoughts swam with those words over and over again. All his life he had gambled, hoping to win big. Now, he just needed this cash so that he can feed his family for the next month. One more strike.
He sent the bowling ball down the alley and prayed.

The cafe was crowded. It was hard even for them to get a table in a dark quiet corner. But somehow, they managed it. Seth had wanted to leave, scared of the judgemental stares that would surely come their way. But Luke pulled him in anyway; he’d kiss him full on the lips right there.
The people in the cafe had no right to judge.

Purple, violet, lavender. Magenta.
She picked up the cloth lovingly, almost. Running her fingers along the silk, she felt more at ease and comfortable than she was before.
It’s the same colour as my eyes, she thought.

She dug deep. Down into the earth she plunged her fingers, scooping out as much dirt as she could, trying to make some kind of burrow or maybe just a final resting place. She didn’t care about her nails chipping or her skin breaking and bleeding.
She just wanted to be buried.

I stand at the edge of the world,
Clueless, sad, mourning,
The cliffs are there before me,
Calling, begging, yearning.
Who should I blame but myself,
For being who I am,
For saying what I think,
For being proud that I live.

The Metro station was packed. And yet I still had to find a way to weave through the crowd without getting cursed at, stepped on, or tripped over lest I end up late at my first day as an intern at a literary magazine.
Let’s just say, the day did not start well.

I couldn’t move. I wanted to. So much, I wanted to run as fast as I can back home, stumble up the stairs if I have to, cower in my room until daylight breaks through my windows.
All I wanted to do was get away from the humanoid creature before me, with its bottomless black eyes and razor-sharp fangs.

“Everyone’s wrong about me.”
“I’m not useless.”
“I should’ve said no.”
“Why can’t I speak up?”
“I was right.”
“Why doesn’t anyone ever believe me?”
But all they’re mumbling was lost to the wind.

No time. I don’t have any more time. There was a time-bomb ticking in my head, counting down the seconds until someone walked in on me trying to steal information from my boss’s computer.
It was stupid, but definitely worth the risk.
I would do anything to get some leverage on that bastard. Something that can not only have him wrapped around my little finger; something that might just get him tossed into jail, too.

Lines. They were all over. There was nothing I could do to get them out of my head. The kept crossing each other with no particular meaning, no organisation; they just did.
Over and over again, lines popped out and overlapped with each other, making geometrical shapes that I couldn’t understand. I wanted to cover my eyes or massage my temples to stop the migraine it’s giving me. But I can’t; my arms are tied around my body in a straitjacket.

It was a fatal attraction. She knew it when she first saw him.
There was something in the way he carried himself, the way he walked, talked, that made her feel like she should run as quickly as possible in the opposite direction.
And yet, she was attracted to him.
She took a step forward.
