She looked at him and the anger nearly burned out of her eyes. He knew that her temper was fiery, but he was unprepared for this level of intensity. Her nostrils flared wildly at him and her hairs looked like they too would stand on their ends with rage. He took a deep breath and started to speak.

The boy on the bicycle pedaled quickly up the street. Each movement of his legs bristling with an energy that only comes from a man on a mission. His steady gaze hopeful as he pushed forward, eager and resolved. Today was the day for adventure.

She was hoping that someone would stop by. She peered out the window, looking at the cobblestones by the front path. She would put a pot of tea on and some biscuits out, just in case. The house was tidy, the plants watered, the laundry done, even the fire on the hearth was bright and glowing. Yes, maybe someone would pop in. That would be nice.

She peered at the street below, the night lights shining up through the windows. The curtains were pulled back, tied together in their black ribbons. She watched the cars drive by, their headlights dimly showing through the foggy glass of the cold autumn evening.

When the day dawns grand and clear, you want to go out into the air. But when the call of responsibility and work and all those long lists keep you confined to your chair, it’s a grief and a burden to bear. So instead you spend the time wistfully staring out the window, wishing to be free.

The desert was dry and barren, sun beating down on hard earth. And the thirst filled up his entire being, a longing so deep and whole. Water, his only thought.

And we seem to come back again and again to the old stories we know so well. Even though we are being called to the new ones. The new that is written and declared for us. But even so, we can rest assured that there is always grace.

The major in drama stared up at the stage, wishing she could stand there with the same confidence as her sister. Why, why was her sister, a girl who majored in visual arts, better at acting than her? Her parents always asked, “Why can’t you be more like your sister?” And now, she was starting to ask herself the same question.

Life is a funny thing. So full of little mysteries just waiting to be solved. They sit across from us and say, “Go on, then. Ask me something.” But we never ask, do we? We never ask.

I remember her smile the most. The way her teeth sparkled, the way her lips spread so wide across her face. Such a simple thing and it lifted me up out of my feet so I could fly with her in the clouds.

I really love highlighters for some reason. Throughout all of middle school and highschool all of my notes for all of my classes were color co-ordinated thanks to my highlighters. They added color to everything I had to write about and when I would look back on them to study, things seemed slightly less dreary because there was color on the page and things didn’t seem so bad just for that reason.

Today it struck me so suddenly, even though it’s so obvious so everyone else: He’s a real person, he has a life and a family besides me. I’ve got to stop feeling like he’s my family or friend. I don’t know. I’m dumb.
It’s funny, because it’s so easy to accept everyone else in my life as real people – but for him, I’m always left in wonder. It was strange for him to mention buying groceries!

silly yellow thing
twists and turns on the breeze
pollinates, rejuvinates,
old woman’s face cake
it makes its black stripes jet
pulsing through the wind’s blood

‘Cause I would walk five hundred miles
And I would walk five hundred more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles to fall down at your door…

Sometimes I wish we still lived in the days when men wore suits and ties and actually cared about their appearance. Of course, there were a lot of issues during those times…racism, sexism, what have you. But everyone looked so classy back then. I wish we could bring back the style while leaving behind all the baggage that comes with it.

I think one of the best things about winter is the cold. I mean yeah, sure, people will be like “oh, but that sucks! I hate feeling cold!” or whatever, but it’s nice, you know. The best feeling in the world is to curl up in front of the fire on a snowy day all wrapped up in a blanket and drinking hot cocoa. That’s the thing I look forward to every year.

Brosus knew that popped collars were cool. So obviously if he wore TWO collared shirts and popped BOTH collars, he’d be doubly cool, right?

In Brosus’ name amen.

Head-to-head, hand-to-hand. Be the one to fight back. Because no one else will.

Man went to the moon in 1969. That’s, what, forty years ago? And yet we have made no progress since. Do we not have the drive? Or is it something else? How sad that we need to be goaded by the Soviets into making progress.

She asked me what a garlic knot was, and in the spirit of keeping things honest, I told her I didn’t know. I had to look it up. It’s not that interesting.

The weirdest thing about trying to go underground is that you can’t really keep up with what’s happening, you have a small circle of trusted people. You can’t risk their identities. You’re wanted. That’s all you think about.

Lately anxiety takes over more and more of my day. I try the old Buddhist trick, staying in the moment, not attaching to the outcome. Anxiety doesn’t know Buddha though, so it’s a constant battle.

When she arrived with her shirt buttoned all the way to the collar, he knew it was not his night. Still, she was there, and that was not always a possibility.

it is evident that you don’t care, why should you, you get everything handed to you on a silver platter. Stop your crying, it’s making me sick, the evidence is clear you are spoiled rotten!

feathered birds floating flying free. feathered masks, hides me from me. feathered dress, proper, obscene. I want to step away, but I am bound by my happy feathered promise. feathers really aren’t that much weight.

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to work with this,” I said, desperately.

“Tough luck, buddy,” he spat at me. “You gotta play the cards you’re dealt.”

For a long time I was unsure about my gender identity. I knew I didn’t feel very female, but I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to identify as a man because I still liked cute clothes and fashion and had girly tendencies. So I tried identifying as “genderqueer”, but even that didn’t fit. But now? Now I’ve realized that being into flamboyant clothing and fashion and doesn’t make me any less of a guy.

It just makes me a really, really FABULOUS guy.
