divinity

As I sat in the garden, made up completely of rose bushes, for I refuse to house any other flower, I saw a butterfly hop the petals. I watched as it changed from gold in the sunlight and then a light blue and white in the shadows. I watched as it floated to the stone fountain in the middle of the stone garden and take a long drink from the sweet water inside. I watched as it took off from the lip of the fountain, rising higher and higher as it goes. I couldn’t help but think that that golden butterfly that could turn blue in an instant was the closest thing to divinity that I will ever see.

gardener

There was a garden in the backyard where wewould spend our evenings. It was overgrown and beautiful. When it rained the ground would soak up the water and the smell was the best in the world. We were the gardener, the designer, the soul owners of our own little home In the backyard.

terminal

I looked around the crowed terminal that would be empty in a matter of minutes if it wasn’t for the excessive security checks and stamping of passports. Things would go a lot smoother if we just trusted one another. I scanned the large room again. All I could see were rows and rows of people, not one a familiar face. Maybe I had past some of these people on the street and I just didn’t recognize them or maybe I really didn’t know anyone. “Hey you ready to go?” I turned to my right. Ah! A familiar face. My wife and our two children were standing eagerly by myself. I picked up my daughter and swung her around so that she was hanging on my hip. “I got my luggage, I’m ready” her squeals of glee were muffled by the sounds of the other vacationers and businessmen.

owner

The dog came up to me and licked my face. I was bathed in the sticky saliva as I kneeled down to run my fingers through the wire-y black hair. It was one of those nice looking poodles with an even nicer looking owner. I looked up at her and she smiled her bright red lips parting to show bright white teeth. She put a quarter in the plastic cup by the curb I use as a pillow and moved on. I will never forget the smile I fell in love with.

watchtower

They tower over us like vultures ready to attack. I know they won’t but to know they can is an unappealing sense of fear. They look so dominant up in their watchtower. They may think they’re better than us, but we know better. We are not arrogant… we may not be strong… but one day we will gain freedom… whatever that is.
