For the first time in two decades, he knelt. He never thought he’d be back here, after how this place had took his father away. He had vowed to denounce religion, and yet he found a deep sense of comfort from this position.

It’s not uncommon to find so many different lifestyles today compared to 100 or even 50 years ago. This is the modern age where dating no longer requires physicaly contact and where people do as they please and everyone tries to lieve their own life the happiest the can be. I appreciate this modern age, it has gveen us a new freedom we’ve never had before.

She got off the phone with her realtor and rushed into the kitchen, absentmindedly getting out the spaghetti she had been cooking for lunch. Her room was in disarray, everything heading towards a state of entropy. Her penne, far from being al dente as she had thought when she had initially felt the stiffness, was undone.

It took a while coming out here by bike. My butt hurt, even though Shirl did all the pedalling. Still, this was nice. I feel the sea breeze in hair and the rising sun smiling on my face, but I’m a little cold. I can’t stop myself from looking out at sea though. She was right, as always. It did take my mind off things at home.

She put on ‘Eye of the Tiger’ on her iPod while she started last round of the place. Sweat seeped into her headband, and her eyes watered from the effort. There it was again; the wall. She felt sluggish, physically and mentally defeated. Still, she wouldn’t stop. She put one feet in front of the other robotically, riding on her muscle memory to carry her forward.

My grandmother was the start or maybe not. Maybe it was her grandmother but I never heard that far back. My grandmother was a tailor in our town. She worked in the dry cleaners buildihg making suits for men. Making clothes to make the business make money was the idea I suppose.

My Mother got the gift. She was a master seamstress. Made me dresses in the 1950s with detail that is undreamed of now. She never would show me how to sew.Neither would my Grandmother. My grandmother also crotcheted like a machine would not show me either. I will make it for you she said and sometimes she did.
It was not that they did not want to share their gift they just did not teach. When I became 30 I learned to assemble draperies, dresses and what else I needed until I observed like so many others you could buy clothes. I never became the artists my Mother and Grandmother were with cloth.I became a counselor. I am teaching counseling now at a University. I too hate to teach. Maybe somethings are not teachable. Maybe you have a gift and you will beome what you are.

I’m not religious. I’ve never been to church except for funerals and weddings. I know nothing about the bible save Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark, and Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus. But the first thing that comes to mind for the word biblical is Laura Ingalls Wilder, and her book Little House in the Woods.

My sister sits at the kidney bean-shaped table in her preschool classroom. “Look, it’s a dinosaur!” she exclaims to the little girl sitting next to her. She then grabs one pink marker and three green (her favorite colors), and proceeds to color both in and outside of the lines.

I sit in the faded blue armchair, the sound of loud, joyful conversations between family reunited for Thanksgiving. My stomach is looking forwards to turkey and pie, but also the warmth of sitting around a table as a whole family. Ever since my family was virtually ripped in half, these times are particularly coveted.

Buying, selling. The rate of human consumption is astonishing. We make money, just to buy things with it. Nothing stays in your pocket for long. Ahh, the life of the 99%.

The flash of lightning struck and the homes were deserted. There was no hope left. But in this child’s mind she saw that flash of lightening strike a barren wasteland in which she saw a glimmer of hope. There was a cave. She fled towards that cave away from the ravaging winds behind her. There was no other escape.

I think that One Direction is really cool. They are all kinda laid back and wonderful. Niall is kinda crazy, Liam is adorable and I love him, Louis is high-strung and crazy, Harry is laid back and cool, and Zayn is super duper cool and mysterious.

stretch sweat breath into the balance that allows the body to move. In relations being flexible can prove to keep your life in sync with the movement.

A grasping, breathless attachment mistakenly applied to a something, actually a strong desire to identify the ego with something other than nothing, which is both counterproductive and dangerous. It is from want that we suffer. Without wanting there is only being which, while silent, is infinitely beautiful.

Corrupt, monolithic multi-limbed dragons obsessed with hoarding all of the monopoly money, incapable of seeing the death that they are bringing to themselves with every gasping, lurching step. It’s us or them.

Ancient books slowly crumbling into an eternal solitude of yellowed, musty dusty. The combined collectivization of the communal madness of the most literate element of mankind, a twisting convolution of word, thought, emotion, dualism, and emptiness. In these tomes one may discover gems of pure love sparkling like many faceted jewels lying alongside the decaying corpse of a small, soft creature. Here there is everything. Here, there is no meaning whatsoever.

She tried hard to find somebody to relate to her. She went to the library, the park, the bistro down the street, just to sit there and look around herself. She kept on looking and watching, but nobody had that same gleam in their eye as she did.

I sneezed as I looked at the near empty jar that he left behind. He always did like pepper. He added it to everything he made, when he did make anything. I stared at the glass jar for a long time, just thinking of him, and it made me sad at how much I was thinking of it, as thinking of him made me sad.

A whale in a deep blue ocean with fathoms of isolation pressing in on her either side. Discover her solitude. Discover the silence. Fathoms of silence. Fathoms of solitude. Discover the art of silence and solitude. Be the whale.

I looked in disgust at the trophy he brought back from his hunting excursion – a handsome deer head. I hated how he looked so pleased with himself. He must have saw my grimace for he seemed offended, even though he was in the wrong for killing such a beautiful animal for ‘sport’.

The deer stood in the middle of the road, its antlers caught in the branches of a tree. An oncoming car was speeding towards it, not stopping. The deer thrashed and in the last second managed to set free. The car swerved.

That book.
People have long thrown it away; they use it as a paper stand perhaps, or they might have stowed it away somewhere. They might even use it as a coffee coaster.
But not me. Mine is still kept safe.
I leaf through it sometimes, thinking back about those days when that same book meant so much more.

What one could do with a smile. It brightened up my day just looking at her face. I haven’t seen it in a long time, and it brought me back to those carefree April afternoons before she had to go into the hospital.
