Love is an amazing thing; a force that can uplift, motivate, drive, inspire, heal and more. It is something worthy of aspiration and often fills cracks in our soul that we may not even have realized existed. But love can also be hard and devastating, it can be larger than life and too much to […]

  • Rob commented on the post, history 8 years, 4 months ago

I believe it’s true that if you don’t learn from history you’ll be doomed to repeat it, but I don’t think history can teach us everything – or even much more than anything – about the future. The future is always full of unexpected turns that could not and will not be anticipated; though when […]

  • Rob commented on the post, intense 8 years, 4 months ago

This is a word that is inherently definitive and rather hard to write about off the cuff. I feel that nothing I write, inspired by this word, will be intense enough to live up to its own specific inspiration. Suffice it to say, then, that I value the reality of this concept in most situations. […]

  • Rob commented on the post, predict 8 years, 4 months ago

I think I’ve always had a deep, though small (or maybe, more accurately, contained) desire to predict the future; to know what’s coming in specific situations at my discretion. However, a major reason I want that ability is so I can change the future to suit me, which raises an interesting question: is it really […]

  • Rob commented on the post, wonder 8 years, 4 months ago

I feel like my first association should be with the likes of “awe” and “amazement” or massive and iconic sights throughout the world. However, I instead think more of the pondering, curious and imaginative use of the word. Often I find myself wondering what would have, could have, might have happened in a certain situation. […]

  • Rob commented on the post, station 8 years, 4 months ago

There is a volunteer fire station house right around the corner from me and when I was little we would go to their fire prevention week event every year. I was entertained to ridiculous extents by “prank-calling” at the demo 9-1-1 table (“my tongue is stuck in the refrigerator!”) and the few years they had […]

  • Rob commented on the post, embraced 8 years, 4 months ago

I couldn’t explain why, but my first thought was of someone having their wrists shackled with heavy cuffs. Their arms being embraced in manacles, limbs hugged with chain, as they feel the tangible signs of freedom being squeezed out of their grasp and left with the security of imprisonment. I hope this doesn’t come from […]

  • Rob commented on the post, painted 8 years, 4 months ago

I once thought that makeup was oft overused, to the extent that it hid the real face of women like a mask I felt they didn’t need. However, in the last 4 years I’ve had my body painted with needles and ink to leave marks I would have never been born with because I felt […]

  • Rob commented on the post, plaid 8 years, 4 months ago

Always makes me think of flannel. For years I thought they were interchangeable and inseparable, as if the pattern itself could not exist on anything but a thick, soft, warm fabric. It was just the same with the vice versa and I remember one Christmas, my parents gave me flannel sheets and they were solid […]

  • Rob commented on the post, pretzel 8 years, 5 months ago

Funny, I was just eating pretzels a little while ago. It was odd that I was doing that because I didn’t have anything to drink and, while I love pretzels, I usually find them too salty to eat without a beverage. I think I just needed to snack though, just to be doing something.

  • Rob commented on the post, control 8 years, 7 months ago

So much I could say about having and losing, grappling for and letting go, wondering who or what truly wields such a thing in my life or anyone’s life. It sounds cliché to say, and it’s even more cliché to say so before saying it, but the more I think about it the more I […]

  • Rob commented on the post, specific 8 years, 7 months ago

I think there a lot of subjects where it is very easy to talk about your “personal opinions” in broad language. To the casual listener it may seem as if you’re being personal, when really you hide your truth behind the hugeness of these large opinions, but when you force specificity, that’s often when you […]

  • Rob commented on the post, barber 8 years, 8 months ago

I haven’t been to a barber in almost a decade. My hair was never cut the way I wanted it, and usually cut as opposite to that as possible, whenever I’d go so I took it upon myself to buy a trimmer kit and keep my hair basic and cut myself. Part of me thinks […]

  • Rob commented on the post, tangle 8 years, 8 months ago

Like a shoelace knot that a toddler’s tried to untie in all the wrong ways – leaving it wound tight, pulled close and nearly inseparable – or vines around the trunk of a tree, winding for the sun through it’s own loops and curls; I want us to tangle under the shade of my sheets […]

  • Rob commented on the post, microphone 8 years, 8 months ago

All I could think of when I read the word for today was this toy I had when I was a kid. It was a big orange and yellow, plastic microphone that basically had the same effect on your voice as talking into the back of a fan. We used to yell just utter nonsense […]

  • Rob commented on the post, coward 8 years, 8 months ago

I exhibit my cowardice in an untraditional way. Rarely do I shrink from confrontation, I don’t hesitate to stand up for myself when people attack me, and have been known to hold my ground (physically and otherwise) against people much larger than me. Yet, too often I waste away hours doing nothing while thinking of […]

  • Rob commented on the post, fragrance 8 years, 8 months ago

I used to think that if I had to give up one of my five senses, that I would pick my sense of smell. At the time, it seemed like the least important one and the one I’d miss the least. Recently, I had that conversation again and was much less sure of my decision. […]

  • Rob commented on the post, alarm 8 years, 8 months ago

Movies and TV are constantly full of little things that aren’t true to reality, it is after all a product of our imaginations, but there is one that is consistently made that ticks me off to no end. When you pull a fire alarm, all the sprinklers do not go off. In fact, none of […]

  • Rob commented on the post, controller 8 years, 8 months ago

Anyone else remember the original xbox controller? That thing felt like you were holding a big plastic hamburger with buttons. I still think playstation controllers are the worst and the N64 controller is eternally the best. Also, I’m a geek.
