A complicated issue
that isn’t really complicated
why can’t people understand that
Police are people tooWhat happened to that 7 letter word?

Who really becomes “the other”
when a new relationship begins
and the old ends
but neither is official yetThe Husband or the Boyfriend?
The Wife or the Mistress?
Does the answer lie in the eye of the beholder? These are the thoughts I think
when I am alone
pondering on the words that I have become
and what life has made of me. -
Julie commented on the post, cone 1 year, 6 months ago
Stella couldn’t do anything but stare at her $5 ice cream cone that was now laying, raspberry ice cream side down, on the ground. The cone seemed to stare up at her in laughter, as if it had jumped from her hand on purpose.
That had been the last of her allowance for the month, too. She had worked hard, dusting her Mother’s endless amount of…[Read more] -

in an instant
all of those kisses, hugs, hand holds
All of our smiles and laughs
Are turned to sour frowns and anger
Into sadness and hopelessnessThat instant changed everything
Or so it would seem
For in that instant, as awful as it was
all those years were condensed into an instant
Reminders of how spectacular we can be
How…[Read more] -

Failure to be productive
To move forward
Not for lack of trying
Nor lack of will
But because a routine to help
Became routine to maintain
Because an artistic muse
Became too bored to stay and
Left
Leaving you out to dry
Clinging on helplessly, failing to wring
progress out of the only thing
You have left -

The CD candles worked perfectly.
Chris slipped her toes from underneath the bubbles, a slight chill flowing over them as they pushed her glowing DIY project around the soothing lavender water. The CDs helped the tea lights to stay afloat, giving a perfect ambiance to her new, broken bathroom. Sure, the ceiling had holes in it, the hot water in…[Read more]

One of God’s greatest ideas to man
Salty, crunchy, tasty
Could eat a whole bag in one sitting
Rough on the tongue
But a satisfying snackToo bad they can make you fat

Her hair was slightly greasy, with a cute little curl on her forehead that had curled even more from sleeping on her face during nap time (due to the drool, no doubt). Naiomi put her hands on both sides of baby Mia’s head, and moved them to the center. “Look, she’s going to be a punk rocker!” she said as Mia’s brown hair spiked and curled a…[Read more]

Julie commented on the post, cursed 4 years, 10 months ago
There are days when nothing goes right: have to go into work way too early, stay too late, come home to eaten slippers and dogs clawing for attention, boyfriend won’t talk when he said he would, go to bed and it’s too cold, put more blankets on and it’s too hot…Some days, I just feel cursed.
Thank goodness those days aren’t permanent.…[Read more]

“I’ve never had tea before,” she said, and his eye brows turned down slightly.
“You’ve never-” He couldn’t finish as he quietly got up and went to the stove, absently turning the package of tea over and over in his hand. Before long, a quiet whistle was heard and he returned to the table, pouring her a cup and placed the leaves in the liquid.…[Read more] -

Everything had burned in the night.
As they stepped out into the black rain of burned branches, Mia’s hand flew up to catch the gasp that had escaped. Feet smudged the ashes across the path that used to lead to her home, turning it an ashy grey rather than a deep brown. Luna, the wolf, sneezed beside Mia and crumpled what was left of a rare…[Read more]

High School
A place of hatred and joy
of frustration and accomplishments
of silly friends and horrid drama
of joy and laughter and love and painI thought I would never go back,
but as I walk these halls with lesson plans in hand,
badge around my neck,
I am amused to see it is not nearly as bad
as I thought it was. -

Rough, tough, bumpy. Slobbery, too, now that she thought of it. She always dreamed her first kiss would be neat and gentle, with soft lips and touches, maybe even a little dip in there. Not dry lips, cracked at the seams. Not a bumpy, rough tongue not quite sure what to do with itself, a stubby beard scratching at her face, nor rough hands trying…[Read more]

Long wait on the lift
Wind blows through darkened hair
Snow drops onto eyelashes
Cold ski poles stick to gloves
Trying not to let hands shake
Crunch slowly to the top of the hill
Whoosh down, laughing
Barely under control
Face plant at the bottom
Looking at the Diamond hill
with snow-covered bunny ears
Back to the lift… -

“I’ve never done this before” she thought to herself as her eyes peered over the edge of the hill. Her skis felt tight around her feet, new, uncomfortable, daunting. The fake snow crunched beneath her as she pushed herself slowly to the edge while others whizzed by her, unafraid.
“It can’t be all that bad…”, she decided, pulling her ski poles…[Read more] -
Julie commented on the post, occupancy 5 years, 9 months ago
Humans occupy. We occupy and spread out in a certain living space, claiming it as our own. We occupy the air that surrounds us at any given moment. We occupy time, time periods, years, months, days, hours, minutes, every second we’re alive. Humans occupy everything we come into contact with.

Students in the classroom, disrupting every move you make
Children screaming and crying in church, but no one thinks to quiet them down in order to hear.
Respect. Honor.
There are hopefully places that still hold a certain sense of

Arms waving
Crashing into things
Wait-catch that vase!
Nope, too late
Floor’s a mess
Hand throws another one
Toys litter the stairs
Walls are in shambles
But there’s a smile on that little faceAnother day in the life of a two year old

I see this word and for some reason I think of that Disney movie, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, where the creepy evil priest guy violates any religious belief he may have ever had or that he promotes. He violates the sanctity of the religion and for what he signed up for. Oh, and he also kills a lot of people, thinks of our main character as a…[Read more]

Julie commented on the post, flat 6 years, 10 months ago
Many years ago, people ‘knew’ that the world was flat (even though there’s, you know, this big spherical dome up above your heads”. Nowadays, people “know” that the world is round. Wonder what knowledge the next thousand years will bring- is the universe square?
