    I can fit at least a month’s worth of my life into my backpack. Like, I wouldn’t need anything else. It always fascinates me how you can have so much shit strewn about and pack it all up into your backpack and it fits. If only I could have fit you in there. Maybe then, I could retrieve you now that you’ve gone away.

    I never went to summer camp. Too poor. It’s a rite of passage for American kids, though, isn’t it? Maybe that’s why my first kiss wasn’t until I was 19 and I never learned to swim. Maybe that’s why I can’t write a book about a summer romance… Maybe not going to camp is why I never experienced the proverbial “summer.”

    “Don’t let them be better than you.” We’re told that everyday in some way or another. When we’re kids, we have to get better grades. Teens, better SO’s. Adults, better jobs, cars, families, hobbies. Fuck it. Compete only with yourself.
