It wasn’t easy to look through a dozen six-foot tall piles of paperwork. It scared her, the amount of information she had to sift through to get to the bottom of her mom’s murder.
She took a deep breath and delved into the chaos.

It was cool to wear these striped leggings. When I was twelve. Now it made her look like a tool, especially in front of the rest of the executive committee.
WHY didn’t she seriously wear a different costume for the company costume party?

It was always the same conversation with my mother.
“Are you sure you don’t want to go back to school? I can help you with tuition.”
“I wish you’d just applied yourself instead of working at this godforsaken pub.”
    “Do you even get tips?”
“I know a college professor who can help you get in the university.”

She didn’t know what it sounded like. It was a crack against the roof. Did she need to wax poetic about a suspected branch falling on her roof.
“I’m not sure what you want me to say… the sound was musical and full of meaning, maybe?” She shook her head. “Tool.”

  • Amanda commented on the post, compass 6 years, 1 month ago

But he really was my moral compass. Whenever I felt the urge to go nuts at a bar and get tempted to go out the door without underwear, he gives me a look of exasperation and then I remember.
I remember in his eyes, I wasn’t good enough. Not really.

It was almost like he wanted me to get angry. I not only kicked some wet soil on his brand new kicks, but slapped my dirty calloused hand on his smug little face.

A table full of soups: creamy, brothy, wonderfully meaty. It was like she stumbled upon heaven for her empty stomach.

It only took a minute for her to realize how impossible it was to forget him: his easy laugh, his lingering touch, his slow smile. One minute was all it took.

  • Amanda commented on the post, bitten 6 years, 10 months ago

It wasn’t that she fell in love with him. She was convinced that she was conned into it, almost like she had no choice. It was like she was vampire-bitten and she was in this state of perpetual dopiness forever.

I looked at the pitcher incredulously. “Mate, I signalled you to throw a straight fastball. What the hell are you doing?”
He narrowed his eyes at me and walked away, “Fuck off, you’re just a catcher. I know what I’m doing.”

The fabric looked like it should be hanging from a Scotsman`s shoulder, the pattern akin to a kilt more so than an actual skirt. Absolutely not.

Not even a second after standing up she felt the room start to orbit around her. It was like all the twinkle lights were stars and she was floating in space, weightless.
Whatever Jamie gave her today, she wanted more.

  • Amanda commented on the post, camera 7 years ago

It wasn’t easy to avoid the camera…or cameras, as it were. Leaving a grocery store in the middle of the night with a former supermodel on your arm would definitely attract more than one paparrazo.

  • Amanda commented on the post, chief 7 years ago

They called him Chief because he instilled the fear of God in their souls from a look alone. I wouldn’t cross him.
And I really wouldn’t even talk to him.
    Ever.
What was he doing on my front steps?

  • Amanda commented on the post, wagon 7 years ago

It wasn’t like I fell off the wagon. It was more like I kicked the wagon in the face and slit the tires.
    Diets? Pshaw. I’m beautiful.
    ANd appreciative of good food.
