  2. Daria recognized the skirt instantly, almost felt the heavy scratchy wool fabric on the tips of her fingers, the cold of that foggy morning twenty years ago on her face as she opened the door, still struggling with the zipper. And the icy silk lining against her bare legs as as she run along the deserted streets, to the station, never to come back.

  6. I’m running faster than ever, but the lining seems to stretch on beyond even the horizon. “What is this?” I scream, demanding to understand this world just by crying aloud about it. I sniffle. I should have known better. The answer is far from being so easy to figure out.

  7. The lining on the inside of my favorite purse is torn. I guess you could say that it’s from how often I use it, but I’d say it’s probably because I have a nervous habit of picking at it when I find myself alone in public settings.

  8. My question is, why is optimism a “silver lining” in the cloud? What happened to gold? Is optimism not good enough for gold? Gold lining seems to imply a higher value, if you ask me. Or how about a platinum lining? See, here’s the thing about silver – it tarnishes and needs to be cleaned repeatedly. If optimism tarnishes so easily, then what’s the point of the lining at all?

  9. There’s always a silver one, apparently.
    Still looking for that.
Usually don’t want to see it
or make one up that’s not there.
I’m good at that- making things up for myself.
Seeing the world through me-tinted lenses.

  12. I found out what you were. The word was in the lining of my mouth the whole time. And then, freed by knowing, I let you go. That dream of the neon yellow and blue fish, swimming in schools, they reminded me. The pink hyacinths blooming against the submerged wall. Thunder will come.

  13. Sometimes there are silver linings in life. We expect certain things to go a certain way but they don’t always. But occasionally something good will come out of that, and I think that’s a beautiful thing. It’s important that we always see the bright side, because what kind of life would we be living if we never saw the silver linings?

  14. She was nervous, lining up for the cash machine. She was sure someone was watching her. When her turn came, she pushed the buttons and waited for what seemed like an age. She couldn’t read the message on the machine, but the numbers in her balance said it all. Her sister hadn’t sent the money yet! Cursing, almost crying, she stormed away, almost forgetting her card. She would have to call her sister again.

  19. is it silver,
the cloud you sailed in on?
or is it just the gleam in your eye
    that blinds me?

I never said you weren’t full of dreams,
but I am climbing vines upon vines just to reach you.
And I never said I didn’t need you,
    but my wings are growing.

oh, and I’ll fly on up to you.
    you and your silver lining.

    Homeless and cold
He can’t find a silver lining
He can’t find a way to alter-

    All those wrong turns
    It’s all churning inside him
But the lining of his coat is still worn
The people with their shopping bags still make a wide berth
Not knowing all the lonely man wants, needs

    Time to become visible again
    To become stable again
    To become able.

It’s always been that way, sipping tea and watching the rain clouds get closer, until they were upon the house and rain droplets were hitting the window as the people outside rushed to get home or find shelter until the storm passed.

Rick shoved countless of bills into a duffle bag, spilling cash everywhere. “Oi, be careful. You don’t want to leave your fingerprints on the bills you drop. You can get caught easily.”
“Right,” he said and began picking the dollar bills off of the floor. Once we’re done here, I can conclude we made at least $500. Fast food places are the easiest to break into during the night.

  39. The lining in the shirt was starting to fray, to fall away from the rest as though trying to cause a greater strife in my life. I had no other shirts and a job would be hard to find wearing a shirt so old and useless that even the original owner no longer wanted it.
