  2. I already had this one. I can’t believe I already had it.
Or did I just hallucinate a bit, since it’s so hot?
    I’m not sure.
    I’m not sure about anything.
I want to be, but I can’t believe. Can’t trust myself in the heat, y’know?

  3. They stood at the top of the cliff, or rather, Norine stood and Amelia just lay there, panting heavily, her chest pressing into the flat dirt at the top of the precipice. Norine was just as exhausted after scaling the rock wall but was also self conscious of her general physical ineptitude beside Amelia, so she fought the urge to do exactly what Amelia was doing in that moment.

  4. Last summer there was a heatwave that managed to melt all the ice in the Antarctic.
This meant global floods plagued the entire world which actually reduced the population enough that now there is no world hunger.

It actually worked out pretty well.

  6. She sinks and melts. It’s the rain of a million suns soaking into her flesh, her bones, liquefying her into organic soup and tooth mush, hair follicles and brain waves floating through the air, radiating into the earth and down where things aren’t dead and aren’t alive.

  9. This was unbearable! I’d only just stepped outside and I could feel the humidity ruining the hair that I’d just spent half an hour perfecting. It was like I hadn’t even done anything.
I groaned to myself and continued on my walk. This heatwave had better be over soon, or else someone was gonna be facing my wrath.

  10. Baby, it’s hot outside. I’ve got the air conditioner on. Can’t get the apartment under 120 degrees. Too hot for you. I’m afraid the cold water’s gonna give out. The refrigerator is failing. I have you covered in bags of ice. I’m so sorry, honey, I’m so damned sorry. We sure messed up this planet. If you go into heat stroke, I’ll figure something. But I have a ripping headache, a migraine, and I can’t plan ahead anymore. I’ve loved you so much.

  11. California. Sticky hot weather, no wind to give reprieve. Ice melts off the bottles, droplets fall to the heated cement. Laughter in the ocean while the waves crash against dry skin. California, sunshine sunday’s , heat across our bodies as we tan golden under the freedom of a blue sky.

  14. there’s a heatwave
    in the meat cave
I meet the butcher of this land
    beefy dude with meaty hands
    the bacon is bakin’
    the turkey’s are shaven
a dish of fried fish is served
with racks of ribs perfectly curved
    Miss Steak serves me seconds
as the chicken is getting lemoned
I drink a cup of grease
    we’ve extincted the geese
my tongue is glazed and swollen
there’s a war to be had in my colon

  17. The heat is coming, run. LOL. Just kidding sometime if you’re really lucky, you can hear different dimensions in a heatwave, you just have to listen and stay still. Need I mention no water and anything of the sorts.

    in the ashes
    the sting of past lashes
    and rugburns.

    I saw that fragile heart
    go up in flames
    in shame
and a lost will to live.

    I’d be a tragedy
    if I couldn’t forgive
    But only a fool
    to forget.

  20. heatwaves are horrible because I hate the heat. In the winter, you can put more layers on to get warmer, but in the summer, you just have to suffer. It costs so much money for the AC to be on and

  21. I am always sweaty, like everyone in my family. I grew up so ashamed of sweating in front of others that I avoided exercise like crazy, which has now turned into me hating exercise and it’s this perpetual cycle of not wanting to sweat, but pretty much always being damp. I have a fun blowing on me in a cold room because I definitely don’t want to sweat at the off chance the AC breaks.

  23. It’s definitely a heatwave outside! It’s so hot you can almost feel your skin melting off your body. All you can dream about is the cool crisp air of Autumn that will be here in a few months. It provides the temporary relieve you need to get through the day.

  24. Rain after a heatwave.

It’s like letting go after holding onto a skin-burning rope for a long, long time.

  27. It was very hot.

  28. The heatwave was intense, you could feel it as soon as i hopped out of the car. it hit you in the face like a rain on a summer night.

  29. The latest heatwave was nearly unbearable. 38 °C for a week… Old men was dying from cardiovascular diseases, children and animals boiling dead in cars. The draught was more devastating than ever, no crops to eat, not a drop of water to give the thirsty animals and people. There was the worst ever-known famine too, killing millions of people.
The present coldwave of only 35 °C was like a chilling, icy relief on a nice warm sunny beach. This two days was a blessing!
But now, the next heatwave is coming. The mercury is already on 39 °C, soon it will be on 40 °C. Every heatwave is 2 °C more warmer than the previouse one… 2 °C more heat, 2 °C less crops, 2 °C less water, 2 °C less life.

  32. Sweat beaded on my forehead as I tried to see not the wavy horizon, but her face in front of mine. She had dark circles under her fiery eyes, hair frizzy and static with anger and desperation. I wiped my forehead.
    “Only hours now.” I said.
She nodded, lifting the shovel up.
“Who knew the end of the world would be this much work?”

  35. Heatwave dove to the sidewalk. His partner, Cooldown, shot out a blast of frigid air to slow his momentum, landing with enough finesse to disguise the jarring force that helped him stop.

  36. heatwave in the day to day
hard to sweat out this feverish
    thrill
finding nothing in all my nothingness
    melting pot of bull sh*t
heat wave hit like a stray bullet
    running joke
    high speed
    top down
    drunk drive
    heatwave
    deadbeat
long sigh and song on repeat

  37. Sweat was lingering on the boys bald head. The smell of the trash invaded city smelt like canned peas and rotten spinach. Maybe this heatwave will finally cause congressmen to use taxpayers money to pick up the garbage that littered the streets; the trash only gets worse with every passing day.

  38. I lay down and my white edges crisp brown;
Cracked open on the sidewalk, wasteful and painful,
    Indeed;

Fluorescent lights awake in sunless nights—
Leading into the hot, slow drag,
I could do it all but I will do none
Burn me down, fire and sun,
I want nothing left but ashes,
Not a drop of mercy water, I want
Every last one of your forty lashes—
Of the eyes? Little cheek whip razors
I can do nothing but look at the marks left
    And savor
The feeling of boiling beneath my skin
To selfishly wish the heat be my end is a sin
To crisp, to contort, to be a shell in the empty days that pass,
Let there be nothing left of me but idle ash.

  40. The heatwave was near its end by the time my wife finally acquiesced and purchased an air conditioning unit for our window. As the sun set, however, we could see sheets of fog billowing across the gray lips of the bay. Small sailboats had settled onto the water, and I gave my significant one of my signature “looks.”

“What?” she snapped. “We’ll use it for the next time it gets hot as balls.”
