cages

i could almost see it,
going out of your lungs,
into the night air.

some day you will thank me
for this.

“goodbye,” you echoed my words
to me, your heart on the other side
of the world, while mine was on a cliff,
embracing the forest it will soon
jump into.

some day,
far away from here,
i hope you think of me with fondness,
and not with harsh breaths
you now are taking,
as i had put you in a cell
where oxygen can barely go in.

airbag

He couldn’t believe it didn’t engage. Or maybe it did and it was burst. What would happen now? How had this happened? He would be blamed. He knew it. He didn’t think he could handle the consequences. Why did it have to be the passenger side. He wished it was his.

mermaid

She swam through the murky water towards him. Never thinking about the consequences, just that she had to reach him no matter what. He had no idea that his life was about to change, never mind how much. She got closer, within touching distance, and then…

he paints with his voice, an atmospheric haze that pulls me in and out and in and out of feeling. A mist that looks like 8 am by the sea.

Something inside my brain lights up. Tells me “This is good!” but I take a bite and I’m not satisfied.

setup

It was indeed a setup. She arrived in the dimension with no supplies waiting and a bad feeling about all of it. The beings of darkness she was supposed to be targeting had this knowingness about her being there that was unsettling and downright frightening.

mixtape

It wasn’t perfect, their relationship. Chuck wondered what she saw in his frayed sweater sleeves and stubbly, patchy adolescent chin. He wondered if she really liked the music that his band made, or the mixtapes he left under her doormat when no one was around.

swerve

He swerved to avoid him but couldn’t tell if he’d reacted in time. He’d seen him too late as he popped up in the corner of his eye and moved, as if in slow motion, across the road. What would his life be like if he hadn’t missed? What would happen to his family? Who had he just become?

acrobat

she swung from one end of the big top to the other with a cat like grace and agility. the crowed ooh and awed, little kids their face stuffed with candy looked on with wide eyes full of awe at the magnificent performance. When it was time for her show to end she was about to do a record breaking flip, when, with a snap, the rope broke, leaving her to fall into the nonexistent net. the crowd gasped and many parents covered their children’s eyes. Paramedics were called and she was rushed to the hospital, never to perform again.

lure

He sat as still as he could by the water, the only sounds that could be heard was the soft wind billowing through the tall reeds, and his heavy anticipating breathing. Suddenly he feels a tug at his fishing line! His bait must have finally lured something in!

I missed wearing the crystal earrings, the denim high waisted shorts with my ass barely showing from the bottom. I missed being the girl who took shots without thinking and made out with hot exchange students. He said I lost my fire, my confidence. I didn’t know how to get it back.

prove

It wasn’t something she ever sought after consciously. It was just an impulse, really. Her mother’s words spilling over her head like a waterfall. She was drenched in the criticism her whole life and she never even realized she was wet. It wasn’t like she had something to prove, she said. But she did.

disaster

you should think about what you would call a worst case scenario in terms how your life goes. if the worst thing that could ever happen to you, the biggest disaster, would be staying in the same place, both mentally and physically – is it worth staying safe?

cloak

It feels like a cloak, that’s what this feels like
I lie to one friend to please another
I please another while lying to a friend
What am I doing
Perhaps it’s for the best, if no one gets hurt
Perhaps the truth is for the best, in the end
Life is full of choices, who can say which is the best
Unknown I wander through the world
Searching for the correct answers
That don’t exist

council

I ask now for your council, I ask now for your council, I ask now for your council. Aurthor rehearsed his words in his head as he approached the throne room. As he neared the two long doors, they swung open ahead of him. Standing at the end of a long hall was Chancellor Grey, looking as old and decrepit as ever.

clever

She was clever. At least, that was the first thing that Melampus thought when he saw her. It was also to be the last thought that would ever run through the poor man’s head, as her sword swooshed through the air and made brief contact with his neck as she quickly cut through it. He didn’t know how it happened, and he didn’t see it coming at all. A painless death. How nice for him.
