tambourine

It makes a clashing sound. I read a newspaper article about a handicapped boy who used a tambourine and was asked to not use it during the service. People were mad about it but I understand. There is a time and a place for everything even tambourines. They are not my favorite sound.

watchtower

She looks up at the window and sees that he is there again. Each day on the dot, the man appears and lingers solemnly. Alone. She wants to know his story but would never dare to climb the watchtower and find out.

I sat in the corner and stared out the window, waiting for someone who would never come again. This was our place, we would meet here each evening to talk and share each other’s company. Nothing will be the same again.

sterile

the walls are white, clean, unfamiliar; i don’t recognize anything in this room and i don’t recognize the gleaming chrome instruments, nor the linens, nor the men in masks and scrubs who say that it won’t hurt at all, over in just a second, yes, that’s a good boy now open your mouth. i am anesthetized. i cannot even scream.

stubborn

She clenched her jaw and kept walking despite the rain that pattered down against her head. Who was he to tell her when she could go home? The party was loud and crowded. She hadn’t wanted to go in the first place. Yet there he remained chatting away with the bartender as if there was nothing wrong with it. For crying out loud the woman’s breasts were hanging halfway out of her shirt! And he had the nerve to tell her they weren’t going home yet. Well she would show him. She would walk the half a mile, in the dark and the rain back to the apartment. And maybe she’d lock the door so he wouldn’t be able to get in. That would show him to flirt so blatantly in front of her.

The woman huffed in further annoyance and held her hands over her head. They didn’t do much to shield her from the rain. Not anything really.

grandfather

The most important teacher in your life, who has lived longer then your parents and your teachers who can show you things no one else can teach you. A man who can inspire your need or want to learn, someone to love and ;listen to.

striped

The polka dotted table was covered with a polka dotted tablecloth. On it stood polka dotted glasses holding a polka dotted flower. I looked at my polka dotted watch to check that I wasn’t being blown off. But in he walked- striped shirt and all.

defined

“Roe, you need to help me to understand.”

“Why should I? Why should I let you define me with some stupid medical term? I’m not my condition.”

“I know that, but you need help. You need hospitalization.”

“Look, I know I pay you a lot of money to help me, but helping me doesn’t mean I have to sit here and listen to your ridiculousness.”

I get up and walk out.

orphans

Who are you? What has happened with your life? No. You need not know your past to create your future. Start from now.

freezer

My heart is on fire
My pulse still beats
My head is in a quandary
but all the world is still.

Inside me lies a question
It is the only way
to know whether I can
trust or not
Is to only trust at all.

unthinkable

That’s when they did the unthinkable. Little do they know that I can do a whole lot worse than they ever could. I will not allow anyone to walk all over me. I’m not a fucking doormat and I’m gonna show em what this little girl is made of. They did the unthinkable but I’m gonna do the unimaginable.

eastern

the eastern coast of the u.s is my home. We are known as the crazy, the rude, and the “always in a rush”, here in new York. We are also, however, the dreamers, the randoms, and the ones who will show you how to have fun and make the most of a bad situation. We will dance in the middle of time square, take pictures of everything long after our tourist days are over, and yell at vendors for being to slow or trying to rip us off. No matter where I go, New York will always be my home. And I will always be proud of that.

I am climbing aboard the ship of teaching “unblocking writer’s block”. The water is still in the midst of a storm but seems to be calming down as I keep writing.

measure

Daphne measured how many cups of flour went into the cake. It had been such a long time since she had seen him and she wanted everything to go perfectly. She knew German chocolate was his favorite and she was hoping in some small way this gesture would be an olive branch of sorts.

railway

It wasn’t anything special, no significant marker between some ‘two worlds’. Still, I felt conflicted going across. Maybe it was the weight of the knapsack on my shoulder. Once I felt the gravel on the bottom of my shoe, I knew I could not turn back.

intrigue

She smelled like smoke and only looked half as good as the women on the screen. Still, it was a valiant effort. Sometimes she’d slip and say something just a little too campy, but really, wasn’t this whole thing just as fake? I turned to the wall. Painted plaster.
“Don’t you wanna ditch this joint?” I’d say, trying for nonchalance and nearly succeeding. And so she sucked on her menthol for a good long while before replying.
“Thought you’d never ask.”

strung

A plaid shirt sporting a hole in the bottom corner, missing the top button;
Your jeans, wrinkled, faded;
One sock – big enough for both of my feet.
Your possessions clipped to my clothesline:
Memories strung in my backyard, forever taunting me of the realization that you are inevitably gone.

plaster

Their love was covered by a thick layer of plaster. She reminisced about the days when everything was clear, when there were no cracks in the foundation. It seemed so long ago that they didn’t need anything to keep them from falling apart. She remembered when they were in love instead of trying to be in love.

manifest

manifest destiny. it’s pretty dumb idea that white people can do whatever they want because it’s their “god given” right. this is what drove native americans west and eventually led to a lot of death.

intent

Intent, that’s all it was. intention to tell her her loved her, intention to sweep her off her feet. Just a good intention. Nothing more nothing less. But intent, such a burning desire and yet nothing without action. Nothing…nothing..nothing but intent.

joyous

Today is a joyus day. It’s nice and sunny. I have a job and I am happy. Therefore today is Joyus. No longer the doom and gloom of the yesterdays, time to move on and continue to be Joyus.

The joyous child looked at me with bright, innocent eyes. For she had yet to see the harsh truth of the world layed before her.

Ageing Rock stars at a benefit. Girls no longer interested. Guitars still shine lovingly in their grey haired tattooed arms. Stiff joints preventing them to go crowd surfing.

shells

Ocean blue, gifts from the sea. Little trinkets I pick up along the way. All different shapes sizes and colors. No two are ever exactly alike. But all are beautiful. If only people looked at people in the same way.
