spirals that go on indefinitely, whirls, black and white on repeat.
found in everything.
shapes on skin.
shadows on the walls.
smoker’s breath, smoke swirls.

It was raining so hard that her hair stuck to her head like a second skin. Rivulets of water dripped down her face, her back, and she was shivering to the bone, to the heart. Shelter, shelter. No shelter from the rain, no shelter from the pain.

A crowd of people, positive energy flowing. Music. Commingling of food scents and smoke. Laughter rises up to the scattered clouds and bounces off the sparkling light.

Orbit. Not rarebit. Not the Jetson’s pet dog. Not the sound a frog makes. But it could be the name of a lame, old, toothless, dusty cowboy sidekick from a B western movie. Orbit.

Her name was Princess. She was an orange goldfish with billowy, transparent fins that shimmered in the sunlight. She lived alone in her bowl, atop a sideboard, near a window. Princess looked with longing out the glass walls of her bowl, silently gasping for a life that eluded her.

Donna had been excited to win the centerpiece at the Christmas party. But once she got it home she saw it for what it really was. Some crudely moulded plastic bits hastily glued together and sprinkled with some glitter. Kind of like some of the women at the party, she thought.

Must obey when said and when is in need. Then you will feel so much better . Knowing you will be good and know what is good for you. That is why obey is so good for you and when you do it. That is the good point about obey. IT is the way of life and what we have to do

I watch you as you shuffle along in the dog park, using your walker, as your little dog prances beside you. Your bright white hair is sticking straight up at the back. Your shoulders are rounded. You stop and ever so slowly and carefully bend over until you can pick up the ball and throw it for your companion. He yips with joy as he chases after it. You take a few more steps to meet your little dog as he runs back to you. I want to hug you.

I’m beginning to wake up. My head is still foggy and my energy is low. But if I ease into it and just get moving the fog will clear and the day will begin. What will happen today?

The sky is bluer in autumn. The morning sun is mellow but during the day it is stark. The smell of decaying leaves permeates the air. Crispy-crunchness underfoot. Cool evenings with stars returning.

Knobby bike tires on the paved bike path make a continuous hum that is hypnotic and comforting — audio feedback for the effort you are expending. Keep pedaling. You’re doing great.

My life is a combination of craziness and loveliness. I have 6 amazing children who all are so unique. Each one has special qualities given to them by God. Every day I look at them (the 4 who still live at home – the other two I think about every day) and wonder wonder what they will become and know that they will be great because God is their Father!

i can’t read the word, but I think it’s “dull”. Interesting word for my writing career, huh? Anyway, I don’t want to be dull. I want to be the opposite of dull. What is the opposite of dull you ask? hmmm let me think about it. How about ‘alive’ ‘awake’ ‘aware’ ‘exciting’ or ‘interesting’? I like those. Those work for me!

The clouds were a dull gray and hence the entire day was dull. And muted. All was quiet except for the sound of the wind in the bare branches of the trees.

The iron sighed as I took it out of its cradle and began to run it over the stiff cotton shirt. The steam wafted up and I could smell a combination of hot metal, water and fabric. The warmth of the pressed material was a comfort to touch.

I am at the edge. Don’t go over the edge. The brink is at the edge. Edge the hedge.

She said, “If you’ll let me I’ll put a french braid in your hair.” Okay. It felt nice, sitting their in comfortable silence, someone else combing my hair, turning and twisting it gently. However, in the end, it just looked like I had a zipper on the back of my skull.

The ulphostery was threadbare at the corners. The cushions were mishapen and the colours faded. There were even crusty bits from spills and drool. It gave off a smell that wasn’t quite offensive but, still, took some getting used to. Yet it was the most comfortable couch he had ever slept on.

I crouched down, bent at the knees, hoisted my kayak onto my shoulder and stood up. I walked a few feet into the lake and gently set my boat down. A journey begins.

I’d like to trade my trials for joys, my doubts for confidence, and my fears for strength. Yet, I know in that trade, I would lose the growing I have gained for going through the tough stuff. Didn’t we all get tummyaches as kids by trading carrots sticks for twinkies?

I started my full-time working life as a secretary. Unwillingly. It was an expectation. And, for the record, the job was what I expected. People thought I should make the coffee, even though I wasn’t even a coffee drinker. I stayed at it longer than I wanted to. But, I had stuff to figure out.

I was driving. My husband was asleep in the passenger seat. I missed the turn. We were two hours past before he woke up and we realized my mistake. Do we turn around and go back. Or, do we have an adventure?

Tiny black hooves skittering across wet pavement. Hearts in throats. Awe and fear and hope all at once. Phew! She made it!

I don’t like when conversations on forums are called “threads”
It makes me think of a rough texture

Elastic. The pronunciation is similar to what the word represents. One can stretch the first two syllables out … eeeeee-laaaaaas. And then, the breaking point is reached and it snaps. TIC!
