If serenity is a state of mind found though meditation and introspection, then I choose motion, activity and the more frenetic the better. Rather than devolving into a single thought creature I choose action and all the fate and fears that interacting with reali life bring.

How many times on a Saturday have you sat back and reviewed the week and seen a wasteland back to the previous weekend. The week seems like a grey and grim place where my real self and all sense of joy is lost and hidden. Even on a wet weekend I throw off constaint and come out and play.

Warming soups and stews, the very thought reeks prudence, poverty and penury. What is it about frugle living that rasps and jars? It is a good thing, but seems like a punishment.

Where is everyone? Where did you all go when I was away? Dwell on this, that I missed you and you are very important to my sense of self, my fiction, my universe. Come back and make me whole.

On the bus today there was a guy cleaning his teeth with dentalfloss. Does that show he is keen to keep his appearance up to date, or just shows he overslept and didn’t want to miss the bus. Another odd behaviour on late night buses is young women put on makeup using the window reflection as a glass. Watching them put on eyeliner and mascara is absorbing. It has the same fascination as watching car races, knowing the driver is an expert, but waiting for the crashes.

Today was a new start, I have made a stand. The purpose of what I do now is not to fit into someone else’s framework, but to plan my own path and ride the storm. They must learn to value me. I will no longer jump through hoops to please some arbitary world domination plan they have rigged up that we are expected to deliver.

As the crowd moved forward they pushed ahead of them their locally elected Mayor. He had stood and made speeches for years without earning their respect or his fees. Now he would have to talk the town out of some serious trouble, or die in the attempt.

The city square was filled with a shuffling moving crowd. They had been there for days. Before dawn the frost had settled and the restlessness was partly to keep warm, partly a raging anger only loosely held in check. They were waiting for him to be sent out.

“Throw him out. He does not belong here.” The speaker stood on the steps, facing the Cathedral. His lone voice rang out sharply above the murmur and the noise that had been gradually rising since dawn broke out with shouts and cries. There would be a resolution today, one way or another.

“Welcome to my world,” he said as he draped his arm across my shoulder. It was the last straw. His borish behaviour and ill manners were opressive and physical assault on something he valued was imminent.

“This won’t take long, just a minute. I will try and be brief. It is the end. We will not be seeing each other again and that is not up for debate.” She turned away when she had finished speaking and walked away.

“That was only thirty seconds,” he shouted after her. “You owe me the rest of that minute and I won’t forget.” She did not look back and no one was smiling.

Inspire me. Give me a clue about finding one new idea that will tipple over, switching on all the lights and revealing the purpose of life.

Remind me again why I am doing this? The racket is a lead weight and I feel as though I am moving in slow motion. If we are doing this to demonstrate your ability to pick up another physical skill with ease, then I want it noted that I am not happy. I won’t be able to even tie my shoelaces tomorrow at this rate.

All she wants to do is nest, she is like a mother hen. Every day she scratches around the house looking for things to do, putting things away, and she is always moving everything. I can’t tell you the number of times I have come home and before I can sit down she has me moving the furniture. If she were pregnant I could understand, but it is as if something is eating away inside her and she has no peace.

What is it that men want? All I did was go over to his desk to have a chat and he came on like a rinosaurus on heat, that is blindly charging at me. Has he lost all sense of reality?

There is no right to happiness. If you feel happy it just makes you dissatisfied with the usual daily grind. Approaching happiness is probably the best you could wish for, to reach that point where everything gradually slows down as you advance towards it, until you realise you have passed it and the music has started up again.

Where had he gone? One moment he was in clear sight and then he had melted away. He had been a solid form, rather like an old sepia photograph, but with a clear, sharp shape and definition. As I came closer he become a shadow and blurred, as though viewed though a thick jelly, before he blended with the background and vanished.

It is freezing here. There is no value in trying to heat this windy, bleak spot. I will write a treaty, begging the gods to give me clemant weather until the building is put back together and civilisation restored.

Now here is one of life’s hard prods in the ribs, a barked hurry-up message, a get-up before it is gone warning. Emptying out into the night were the crowd, dispursing into the evening, even hurrying a little. Here was I standing on the steps of the cinema regretting that the film had ended, that I was leaving the warm fug of popcorn and the best part of my life to go back to reality.

“Why would you think that? I have never said I needed you.”
“Necessity is the driving force behind survival, and you need me to survive.”
“I am here because if I wasn’t you would be alone. Your arrogance and malice has upset and pushed away everyone. You think I need you to survive? Being with you proves I am a survivor.”

The process of purchasing is the same model as that used to convice fellons. In it you need to know where to go to find the right model of the object be bought, convince yourself of its merits, an in inform yourself prepared to commit to the purchase. Emotionally, for me at least, handing over the money and taking the object is followed with by serious sense of having done the right thing, and not joy and happiness. I am now bound to this object, it is committed to me, for a specfic term or the term of its natural life.

Parrots are more hassle then they are worth. They criticise and are as demanding as babies without giving you back the warm and fuzzy good feelings that babies do. And their scaley feet. Their feet scratch and their voices screech; just the thought of it makes my skin crawl.

Thanks for the invitation, Sally. It is not often these days that a reporter will be asked to join in a celebration of this kind. Given the role the media played in this event, it is the last thing I expected. And you impose no conditions. I find myself reacting automatically, asking myself what you want from me.

Why is it that making decisions is so hard? It is as if each choice is breaking new ground, growing a new architecture that I will be forced to live inside for eternity, the walls and spaces of the structure constantly growing and freezing and hardening around me.

“Heaven help us,” she said reaching down to pick up the keys.
“What do you do with all this junk?” he asked. “Those keys don’t fit anywhere.”
“All I do is pick up things; retrieve the lost and fallorn; gather up flotsom and jetsom. Just occasionally there is something of value, but if not it is all saved and treasured. I collected you, didn’t I? I saved you from being washed down a drain and disappearing.”

Many people came and saw the monitor lizard. It sat on the post mouth open, waiting for a bird to land and become it’s lunch. The watchers didn’t know whether to admire the lizard or fear for the birds.

Every journey involves change and this can devolve into a quest for purpose where the change can be avoided by focusing on the possible outcome. The end point becomes the goal and the individual is then like a cork bobbing on a rapidly running stream.

Into every life this should be true: that you seek and find a light to follow, a calling, some siren call that will pull you out of everyday reality and colour your world with purpose. When you find this it will no longer be possible to drift in and out following random dreams or being distracted by shiney objects. You must fight and defend and give life to the meaning you have found, even against your own fears and weakness, for the sake of the world.

What is it about today that makes time seem worthless? Things just pile up non-stop,one new thing after another that I must do, and I must spend all my time sorting them out, making lists, prioritising which means I get nothing done at all.

“Have you finished yet? Is the base down?”
It was just finished and he had leaned back on his heals to look at the work as she came in. Just looking she could have seen it, but she was talking and walking and was out the door before he had time to respond.

Twice too many and then some. How can I backspace from here?

I must have missed the turning hours back and what is in front of us is a complete mystery, unknown territory, wilderness. Instead of watching the map I had been talking, throwing my arms around and enjoying myself, glad to finally be in the moment, in the journey. Now I can’t tell which way up the map should go, how we got here or even where I want to be.
