It was all gone. He looked down at his grubby hands, grime stuck in the cracks of his palm. He looked down at his tattered tunic and his bare feet coated in dirt. He fell to his knees and wept.

“I know just what you should do,” he said, pounding the table.

“But I haven’t finished telling you the problem,” she was exasperated, usually his “solutions” weren’t going to fix the problems he thought she had, nevermind the real ones he didn’t have the patience to have explained to him.

“Don’t need to hear it!” he said. “I know what you need to do!”

It was a command to move forward. Only through investing in herself, she was told, could she really progress beyond the place where she was. “Don’t think of it as debt, it’s only debt if you waste it,” her adviser told her. But when she wasn’t sure where she was moving forward to, it still felt a lot like she was going into the red.

Is definitely a word formed by homo sapien sapiens… It feels like a justification for who we are. To separate us, and place us on a pedestal from the rest of nature. I’m not very pro “civilize” because it seems silly. I was taught to be humble.

If she believed in signs, she would’ve known that she wasn’t supposed to be there. Her closest friend had picked a wine they’d both loved in college–but quickly rejected upon receiving a pay check that moved their diet beyond ramen and peanut butter. But worst of all, the appetizer was pineapple, the one fruit she was allergic too. She lied and said she had a very large lunch.

Suffocating, it steals your breath away. You feel like the world is closing in on you, crushing you. You struggle to fill your lungs, but the weight is just too much. How will you keep this up?

She was a tough one, that’s for sure. Dealing with stupid high schoolers daily is an amazing feat. How does she do it? Then again, she did put me in detention.

they are usually dusty and must be spring cleaned about seven times a year. maybe that’s not true. exaggeration is fun. but seriously, mom obsesses about the cabinets. just like she obsesses about every other object that can be dusted, polished, and otherwise cleansed in our house. i suppose it won’t be my house for much longer.

How many things can fit into that limited space?
Sure, it may be big, but it’s not endless; stuff too many things into that cabinet and one day it’ll burst.

The sonar waves brought about great expectations and immense feelings of anxiety for those looking upon the wreckage.

I put up the decorations, set out the food, picked out the perfect playlist, wore the most gorgeous outfit I own, put the dogs outside, tied balloons to the mailbox so there would be no confusion as to where my birthday party would be.

And still, no one showed up.

We’re all a bunch of hooligans, truthfully. There’s Jamie, the smart one. I never understood why she decided to hang out with us–the crazies–but after she made out with Janna–the slut–during the Homecoming game, I realized that she’s a lot more than I thought she was.

shiny, gold, nickel. It’s hard to turn at times. if your hands are slippery you can slip. locked it can keep intruders out. it lets people in your home. it accents a door. hard to turn when you want to stay outside.

I’ve never received one in school.
Not really.
But the act of being detained is one not unfamiliar.

Strap on a harness, we’re going places.
Who knows if we’ll ever return, but we’re off.
Past mountains and over seas, we’re off.
So strap on your harness, we’re going places.

I’m not who I was. Each footstep takes me farther and deeper into an trench I’ve dug for myself. There is no end, no beginning or finite point in time. You can only move forward.

My pie crust never comes out the way I want it. It’s always too dry and crumbly. I hate that because I LOVE pie so much!! I have watched many pastry chefs make pie crusts that turn out great. I swear I do the same thing they do, but it never works out for me. That brings me to the next thing I can’t make. GRAVY!

The heart–no, the soul, or whatever it may be–is the distributor of our drive; it ignites the functions of our physical body. From there, a life and history is molded and made possible; raw metal heated and molded, dipped into water while still golden and bright.

the crystal cathedral is the most beautiful church in the world. but it doesn’t compare with my tiny home church. it’s not about what the church looks like, but the people inside who make it beautiful or not. cathedrals are big, but churches are full of big love.

The hand stayed outstretched, but the grin wavered. The other party glanced down at the offered limb, a symbol of peace, and shrugged. The two shook hands firmly and the others around them seemed to exhale the tension away.

“It’s a treaty.”

She adjusted the cap roughly and spat on the floor in one smooth motion. Her hair tied back, and eyes narrowed, she grasped the bat and positioned it on her opposite shoulder.

Every one has them. Sometime people feel like it is a necessity to find love, but really, sometimes it’s better to know yourself instead. It is a necessity to love yourself in all ways possible because in the end, you are the only one left.

Cognitive thinking is a necessity. It’s certainly one of mine. I mean, without it, where would I be? Not here, thatls where.

He can convict me well, my God. I can often feel the conviction after attempting at some such nonsense. If I think on it, then I am able to repent.

With hurried breathes, she grabbed at her bags and hoisted them onto her shoulder. As she put one up, another fell. What a hassle!

The cockroach scuttled past the feet of shrieking girls. In a few seconds the giggling group of teenagers became a jumble of mass chaos as they jumped atop the benches in the locker. I rolled my eyes and continued to change, but it approached me and I leaped for the stars.

Everything else is disregarded. There is only you. Nothing else matters, but you. I say this in the most upright truth because the world is only how you perceive it. For all we know, there is only you and no one else.
