peeled

The orange was upset. It had sat on the counter day after day and watched countless bananas and apples come and go. But here it sat. Waiting… Waiting for what? The orange didn’t know. All it knew was that it would spend its whole life waiting without a purpose.

options

options are things we all have to some extent. whether we like the options presented to us by life is another story altogether. i had options even when I couldn’t exercise them due to oppression. they were there, waiting for me to wake up and take advantage of them. however, those who were in charge kept me numb, asleep, unaware to what I could be. their option was to take mine from me.

through

Through. Sometimes it is the hardest direction to go. Not over, or under, or around, but through. Through a trial, through the fire, through pain. But it is also the direction that I believe promotes the greatest good in us, refining us, strengthening us, making us into who we were meant to be.

i’m going through a change. it’s a transitioning period and it’ll be uncomfortable, but I didn’t go through all of the other shit just to be stuck where I am right now. they don’t care about it, and they don’t want to go through anything uncomfortable themselves. So i have to brave the storm and be the standing-alone cheese.

minerals

Minerals are items that come from the earth. They can be valuable. They can be common. They can be ugly. They’re found in the dirt. They are also important to our health as human beings. We find them in our water, and in the food we eat, and can be very important to our bodies functioning properly. You know, get your “vitamins and minerals.” I suppose the word minerals might come from the idea of mining.

integrated

Integration. This word most truly impacts me in a way that impacts many in today’s society. The integration of technology in everyday life. Whether that integration is through life updates on a social media account, communication through your phone, or even health checks through a fitness band, we are all continuously integrating life with technology.

slate

With a low roar the board smashed toward the ceiling, the slate surface oscillating with the force of the blow. Students in every seat awoke from a dull sleep, once again focused on the course. The professor paused, “Better,” he said. He continued to teach the course that he really couldn’t care less about, in the dead end job he’d dreaded as a kid. How did he get here?

olive

And like that she was gone, gone into the wind and all that was left was her smell in the sheets, her olive sweater on the ground and a single earring on the dresser. Like that I was left with three signs she’d ever existed and I wondered if it would ever get better. If life would return to normal. If I would return to normal. If the smell would fade, if the olive sweater would become meaningless, if the earring would get lost in the daily shuffle. I knew one day she’d be a memory I just wish that day came sooner.

steadfast

He stood steadfast in his opinion. He wasn’t going to change his mind for anyone. Feeling justified in his beliefs, he would not waver no matter what his friends and family said. Many others disagreed with him, but he did not feel that he was in the wrong. To be steadfast meant to him to stand tall.

hapless

Some people are born in hapless situations. Other’s find themselves perpetually draw to hapless times. At what point do we draw the line between circumstances and simply just making things worse for yourself? And how did this idea become political?

hijacked

Sometimes I feel like my life was hijacked by a silly decision made a lifetime ago. It resulted in a wonderful life I didn’t imagine in my teens, but my grand scale plan was much different. I wouldn’t change it for the world, but it is easy to imagine what might have been.

hoping

I’m hoping I get somewhere in life. I’m hoping I do the right thing. I’m hoping I end up with someone I love, and I’m hoping I don’t hurt the person I love most. I will though. I know I will. I’ll crush his dreams. I’ll crush his hopes, though I hope against hope I won’t. I know I’m selfish. I’m selfish and sad and narcissistic. I am I am I am. I hate myself sometimes. Is that why I want to run off to Africa? So I can avoid these decisions. heartbreaks. dissappointments. If I’m not here I won’t feel it, right? If I’m not here I can’t hurt anyone, right? I guess. I guess that’s how it works. Probably not. Hurt is hurt whatever causes it. Hoping. Hoping I can see what I’m doing and have the courage to stop.

I like that painting

steady

He held her on the bow of the ship. “Steady” he said. She couldn’t help but look back at him and wonder how they ended up on the front of this ship together. They had never met before. She liked him. She didn’t know why. She wasn’t falling for him but he was nice to be around. Like a shower. A necessity, but not quite something she loved.

The skyscrapers rise above the pavement and they strut down the streets. They own the city. They are the city. The air and the noise and the smell, it’s all a part of them. True New Yorkers own Manhattan, true New Yorkers are Manhattan. And true New Yorkers wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
