There was a severe lack of this growing up. Marine biology gave way to barbershops and paintings. Paint sits on my desk now, collecting dust. I just dusted the ceiling fans for the first time in forever. I’m not sure when the next time that’ll be will come.

My thoughts were amplified through my mouth as i spoke to the people.

The music was amplified through the speaker at the D.J booth. They played the song loudly enough so you could hear it for blocks. There was a petting zoo where they amplified the goat sounds. The goats had a dance party to their bahahahaha sounds while eating gyros.

I tried yoga a few times. I like it. But I don’t think it was I was looking for as far as exercise goes. I like something a little more, I don’t know, active. I want to be outside, running around doing things. I’ll save the quiet mediation for when I’m meditating.

Why are there so many screens? They line the walls, the corridors, the floors…, they are the omnipresent tempest of moral and existential ambiguity. How did it come to this? Where must we go?

I noticed the plants at the end of the hall. Have they noticed me? Why would it even matter that the doors leading off of the hallway were closed? I doubt that it would; noticing the plants has nothing to do with doors either ajar or shut tightly. What a ridiculous idea.

she was wearing a shiny badge pinned onto her righthand pocket and it was what caught my attention immediately. well, besides her caramel coloured hair and big brown doe eyes.

she was in a hospital. a mental ward. whatever you would call it. a “mental hospital”. it wasn’t her fault. her mother’s, maybe. who knows. or, could it be her fault. no one really knew. her dad was dead, and that was that. all she could hear was heavy breathing, her own? questions where everything in her head. her head hurt. everything hurt. everything was white.

He was a cold man who was filled with jokes. His “claw” hand played with us with its groans of fury. I remember the day before Thanksgiving Day when the call came that he was in the hospital after suffering a heart attack. I remember the summer before, when he was pushing the mower around the yard, my grandmother calling out to him as we sat on the deck drinking sun tea. “Bill,” she cried out, urging him to stop pushing the mower, as he hunched over it, sweat profusely dripping from his forehead and shoulders, rolling down his back. The doctors had warned him to take it easy following the congestive heart failure diagnosis. He’d refused the offer of surgery, figuring that he was old and would let nature run its course. On that August day, I could see that his breath, even from a distance, was coming in gasps, as we watched his chest expand and retract quickly, as if in quick, labored breaths. He waved her away, turning his back to us and continued to push the mower along through the tall grass.

The eagle perched on top of the rugged cliff top. The sun shone with it’s searing heat. The eagle spied the helpless child below. It took flight, it began to soar.

Athena, goddess of the crafts. She was parading around the city of Greece and she entered a small weaving club. There was Ariadne, a fantastic weaver. So much so, that Ariadne believed that she was fully better than Athena at weaving. The two entered a battle. And Ariadne’s weave was ultimately better. The match was unanimus, Ariadne won. But in Athena’s spite, she had turned Ariadne into a spider, who came to be known as Arachne.

He was highly educated. He had been to universities, graduated top of his class. He was one of the best and brightest. But suddenly it didn’t matter. Suddenly he was stuck, clueless, lost and alone. How did he get here? Did it even matter? That was all there was. Sometimes… sometimes you just don’t have all the answers. Death is kinda odd like that.

What motivates you? I feel most motivated when I look at the world around me and see my place in it. What have I done? What do I want to do? What am I going to do? Sartre says that we are what we do and that our motivation should simply be to act. It is our freedom that commands such. Motivated by this I carry on my life. You should too.

My ties with the world beyond my myriad walls is somewhat…, progressive. Or, certainly, a simple string of progression, if nothing else. I have a different outlook that that which I had the year before, the week before. Occasionally, the day before, the hour. It is something of a nuisance.

A nice glass of bourbon the rocks. Just what I need to get over what just happened. My hand shakes slightly as I uncork the bottle and pour a liberal amount over the ice. I grab the glass and slam it back, feeling the sting as it slides down my throat. For an instant the memory disappears but then it’s back just as quickly as it had left. I shudder and reach for the bottle again.

Look out it’s a stampede. Run so you don’t get trampled over by the hoard. I would get killed in a stampede because I run really slow.
