I remember that I wanted to be one. I remember when I made my mom buy me a very expensive skateboard. She worked so hard at her job to get me what I wanted, However; I didn’t work so hard to become the best skater that I could.

Pull the camera out of your pocket, you don’t want to miss this. In fact, don’t miss anything. That way, you have it. Don’t you want to have it?

The distant sound of a horn sailed over the hill, and that was the signal they were waiting for. The dirty, bloodied soldiers jumped to their feet, cried out together to the gods, and charged over that war torn hill, spears held high, which moments before had sat next to them in the mud.

Come on, Reverend, you owe us. The 226 ain’t gonna forget what we’ve put in to this ghetto cathedral of yours. I’m sure God would want you to reward those who honor the church, right? So reward, Reverend, reward.

The doors open to a scene which caused Sandra to gasp. She knew there was an unwritten rule to look the other way in this speakeasy, not just when it came to booze, but to all things illegal. But by god, the debauchery she witnessed in those first steps into this heavily guarded boys club almost made her stomach turn.

Stealth is the artist’s secret weapon, and lifeline. The artist needs to keep under the radar, never revealing why they made the piece, or what it means. That is, if they want to be famous.

The dull glow from the screen lit up the room, but only enough to pronounce shadows, to hint at the things in the room, to give your mind enough license to play tricks on you. Somehow, the room seemed darker in that light.

Plunged into the icy lake, time stopped for young Michael. “This is what God entering my body feels like?”, he thought. “Cold, uncomfortable, and making my nose burn?” When reverend Josef pulled him back up, he felt no different, and the beaming smiles on his parents’ faces from the shore broke his heart, in this moment and throughout his life.

Most of what’s out there is a joke. But no one cares. If you don’t like it, you can change stations. And you know what? You’ll here the same crap on that station too. The illusion of choice, as they always say, is the right way to do business. Why innovate when you can just make it seem like you are?

It was a tough read, echoes of ghosts doomed to a fate they didn’t see coming. When flipping through the ship’s manifest, all I wanted to do was shout at the pages, “Don’t port in Casa Nuestra, you fools!” And as the skeleton of the great tanker lumbered into view, one pothole littered block at a time, my internal screams grew louder, and so did the ghosts’.

Intent is the toughest thing to prove. We’ve got motive, we’ve got prints, but how the hell do you show this asshole intended to do anything more than scare her? I’m not a goddamn mindreader, are you?

It’s not about the will. Everyone who comes in here has the will. Otherwise they would never have stepped through that door. It’s just never what they expect. They can’t stomach it, and some days, neither can I. But it’s never been about wanting it enough.

God Claurice, stop being such a bitch! You don’t own Michael, you can’t order him around like he’s on a leash. Unless he’s into that, uh oh! Watch out, Michael’s a dirty bird, isn’t he?

The instant coffee spills haphazardly into the mug, the hot water turning first muddy, then black. Only a truly exhausted man can’t even manage to make a proper cup of coffee.

Fern took aim, aligning the lead sight of the barrel, left eye closed, ready to take her shot. If only her left eye had been open, she would have glimpsed the Chevy Malibu hurtling towards her, moments before just a part of the scenery of the Newark street. The figure in the window had just been a decoy, and Fern fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

The birth of a child is the most joyous occasion a person can experience, so I’m told. Then why don’t I want one? Why do I get the feeling that everyone is lying to themselves and each other, unwilling to admit that perhaps they’ve made a huge mistake?

Why is it always me? They should just call me Jeffrey “Scapegoat” Clintock. Anytime anything goes missing, gets smashed, or otherwise isn’t how it’s supposed to be, they come find me. I’ve been in this holding cell more times than I’ve seen my kids in the last year.

Please hon, pass me those pills. Next to you on the dresser. I could get them, but these old bones aren’t what they used to be. You’ll understand when you’re my age. Everything starts breaking down.

His balance was called into question by the shocked stares of the onlookers, particularly the children. Was it that obvious he had been drinking? The fact that he was on these things at all was a miracle. Maybe it was the clown makeup, which he had put on in the cab over from the bar, that was making those little brats stare, their mouths agape.

You know there’s something missing too, right? Don’t make me the bad guy just for saying what we’re both feeling. Oh great, cry. You know what, you’re lying to yourself right now. Don’t you even dare pretend like we were good together. Don’t you even dare.

If your unadorned beauty were comparable to the audacity of your ensemble, you’d look nice.

The tide just came in. What had been sure ground David was walking on vanished into a cloud of water and sand, and David tumbled. He rolled head over heels out to sea, like a small shell that used to have something inside of it.

His spurs reflected the sun into every onlooker’s eyes, seemingly at once, as if God was saying, “Bow down to the light, for the light knoweth the way.” Only the tumbleweed payed no mind.

Everything comes in pairs. Success and defeat. Love and loss. Joy and pain. This is one of those facts of life that we all accept. But when she walked into my life, I forgot that there was another half of that pair waiting to strike, waiting to take what was most precious.

Hey man, you’ve got five bucks? Even one, man. I’ve got needs, you know? You’ve got a nice suit, and nice shoes, and you’re walking out of a nice restaurant, so I know you can spare it. Hey man, c’mon? Don’t be like that.

It was cold and my back ached from the fifty lashes I had received. I was running. Out of breath and quite out of luck. It was quite sad really but I dealt with it in the only way I could. The lashes began to open up, bleeding quite profusely.
