side

To one side, there was a steep, ragged drop. To the other, a steep, ragged climb. Which direction did he want to go? Climbing either way, but up or down? He looked up. The blue sky against the brown rocks.

half

Only half the milk made it into the glass. Josh sat there, staring off into space, while the milk crept down the table. No more, he thought. No more. Then he sighed.

secret

Shhhh. Whispered words. Cupped hands. These secrets are the ones that spread. But the real secrets of the world are the ones that shout from every rooftop, only to deaf ears.

props

They were pieces to the play that was her life. Her old life. When she went back it was all she could do to stop from bursting into tears at the memories each item held. Each piece of her broken heart. Daring to pick them up she felt her self start to cry.

holder

Like a pencil holder? Like a trust holder? There aren’t a lot of people who hold my trust… or my pencils for that matter. There are a lot of holders in the whole world and you have to be careful what you choose to hold you items, because whether they are important or not, losing your items isn’t anything you want to do.

suspects

He was one of them. Always a suspect. It made sense given his past, even more given his nature now. After all, how was one supposed to trust a demon? There were certain things he’d come to expect after coming back from hell. Suspicion was one of them. With a grin he joined the line up.

decorations

The first thing she noticed was the odd mask in the bath room. It threw her off, making her gasp when she saw it and put her hand to her heart. In the back of her mind she wondered who the hell thought a decoration like that was a good idea for a guest bathroom. Maybe for people you didn’t like?

crew

I met the filming crew for the first time about 2 weeks ago. It’s rare when you click with 3 other people that way off of the bat. It was like a week of laughing and work. It didnt seem like work though because it was so much fun. I’m so happy I was able to participate in this project. I’ve always wanted something to do that had me interacting with other people especially the right people. I’m truly lucky

overalls

I used to wear overalls,
they were really annoying,
it felt like I was in jeans all over my body,
which I guess I was,
but I loved them because I only had to wear 1 piece of clothing.

soups

At the soup kitchen, they had all kinds of things; it wasn’t fancy, but people from all over the world had come to work there, had come to share their specialties. There was Momma, who made a hot gumbo that could melt the ice from your heart in winter; there was Cherie, whose rich peasant stews and hearty bread could fill you up after a few spoonfuls; and of course Natasha, who ruled the kitchens, made pools, lakes, seas of borscht.

mayor

I think of mayor guiliani. The only mayor I know, I live in florida too and he’s the only one that comes to mind. It brings me back to the day in New York that were fun and careless. I miss those days. Maybe.

straw

The straw made her scalp itch, where it was stuck in her hair at all angles. She couldn’t bring herself to remove this last remnant of the rollicking, after her joy and her sweat and her tremblings were gone.

dilemma

The boy stood in front of the burning building, frozen. He had two choices: run back into kitchen and save his mom, or run around the back to the garage and save his dad.

sliver

Silver is the colour of the wind, if the wind had a colour. It’s a unicorn’s mane blowing through the sky, and the glitter of non-gold. It’s the beautiful lining of sadness, and every cloud in the sky. It’s a new way of looking at things, and something new to covet.

pageant

Flash bulbs blinded her as she strode down the catwalk. She tried to keep her composure, to pretend that everything was fine, but it wasn’t. She shouldn’t be here. Not now, not ever.

pastel

The sky reflected each color, dulling it to a light pastel. I was reminded of my watercolors, and how they were melting back at home because mother hadn’t let me bring them with us.

dismissed

Sometimes being dismissed can be a good thing, maybe even a blessing. Holding on to something for too long can diminish what we can really accomplish, but if we are dismissed we are free to peruse other things that may be greater.

function

Conjunction junction what’s your function? A function is a purpose and of course the word lends itself to the thought of dysfunction and dysfunctional. To function is to work and it makes me think of working well together. A counselor once told me there were four stages to relationships. Forming, storming, norming and performing. Function makes me think of the performing stage of relationships.

shepherd

Christmas.
One of her favorite songs was “Shepherds in the Field Abiding”
It played through her head constantly.
It brought about a sense of warmth, imagining them in the cold of the night, seeing the blazing star in the sky.
A glowing gold.
She could not wait, the thoughts it made her think was striking.

awakening

I awoke to the truth
And it killed me
Yes,
I’ve had an awakening
Although I did not want it
It tore me to shreds
And he
He didn’t care
As I stood there
Lifeless
He stowed away
And left me
And I
I was dead.
But I did have an awakening

warfare

Warfare is a terrible thing, he thought, his eyes filled with sand and his head throbbing. He could see and he couldn’t feel and he couldn’t smell. The thought passed, and he didn’t miss it. He didn’t want to think.

scout

I scouted it out.
I looked everywhere.
I couldn’t find the answer.
Did he care?
Did he die?
Did I die?
I kept on scouting.
Searching.
For just the answer
Did he love me?
Scouting…still.
I had to know.
It was killing me.
I kept on going.
Scouting
For just him.
