bury

to bury something is to get rid of it physically. but you never really remove it from the minds of people who knew about it. a mistake can try to get buried away, but it never really goes away. and that may be for the best, so we can learn to never do something like that again, or remember something we never want to forget

mass

a mass on the spaceship caught me by surprise then when she caught me with her eyes. a callous hand wipes away the grime. she was washing dishes and I watched her from behind. the yard was green.

they make up the bone and flesh of what we call life
of course i am a substance
of whatever my memories make me.
but are you a substance, oh mr. word?
mr substances, are you really there?
a word is a substance, isn’t it?
i’m not so sure.

suspects

Suspects? What are suspects? We automatically think about the people the crime detectives find, but there is something else we need to look at. We need to look at the inanimate culprits—the things or the factors that cause the problem—as the most important suspects.

necessity

“Necessity” starts with an “n” and ends with a “y.” If something is a necessity, it is necessary. Toothbrushes are often a necessity, as are clothes, food, and water. It’s bad to not have a necessity. Don’t try it.

leading

Leading is a far greater actiom than following. Anyone can follow, but it takes a great person to lead. It also takes, guts, courage, a sense of humor and a willingness to fail, but never a willingness to give-up hope that you will one day succeed in your mission.

desk

There, on top of what used to be something that adorned a forest, snakes beneath, squirrels in, birds above, below, on and through, was nothing, a barren top, save a few folders with neatly printed labels. Each day when he left his desk, he cleaned it off. “I don’t want anyone to walk in and know that anyone works here.”

heartache

Perhaps the most lame topic anyone could be asked to write about. How cliche. How complicated yet extremely boring. The contradictions do provide a fertile ground for discussion, however, the wishy-washy nature of the topic makes it untasteful.

catcher

The mound seemed to sit atop the field in a way that made it almost disconnected. From below, adorning his perch behind the dirtied plate, he signaled. The sounds, crickets of humans behind him, complemented the walls of “Firesale Mattresses” and “2 for 1 Steak Night.” He was no longer in the big time. His knees creaked as the ball was released, a wince slicing his face before the ball even arrived.

brunch

Bruch is a stupid word. It sounds dumb. I hate it. More than anything else at this particular moment in time. Maybe I’m just angry because I don’t have any friends that’ll take me to brunch. Now I’m sad. Just kidding, mostly.

walls

Witholding. They keep you from being the real you. Keeping friends at bay and keeping your enemies close.
They need to be broken in order for your life to be open and complete.
You can’t see the beauty of the world from within walls.
Also they’re good for keeping buildings up, structural integrity is pretty cool.

odds

Odds are absolutely against you. They never seem to work to your advantage. Just when you think that something is going your way, it fails because of the horrible odds it can offer.

liberty

Life is full of liberty. You don’t need to know where it comes from or why. Just be grateful for the liberty you have. Accept and appreciate it. In the end, you’ll thank yourself. You have liberty for a reason, what do you want to with it?

suppose

I often find that when I suppose I suppose incorrectly. I suppose that stems from a lack of knowledge on the subject in question, but who really knows? It’s just like assuming. it makes an ass of you and me. supposing can definitely do that too.

couch

We laid on the couch embracing one another. Tears streaming from the joy of feeling whole once again. It was so good to have her home. I needed to kiss her, hold her, tell her how much I love her…and hope she would reciprocate.
