I'm lost again. I'm lost a lot. Maps are only useful when you're not driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour - if you're going too fast, you have no time to look. Of course, going off the highway to look is dangerous all by itself - what if the place isn't on the map at all, and finding your way back is inobvious? On small, slow streets, though, maps are a life-saver. It's all about having enough time to slow down, a place to stop, and look at the map.

I once used a map to find my way to a university, you see this would have been perfectly fine, exept i failed GCSE geography. We drove around and around Portsmouth, which incidently i found has an amazing amount of pubs and the biggest underground carpark you will ever see, we must have circled around it a good 7 or 8 times.

Have you ever seen a map of the human body as seen by the central nervous system? Huge hands, a tongue so large it wouldn't fit into the mouth. Large genitalia. Tiny thin arms and legs. It is how we look to ourselves. Interesting, isn't it? It is just the same as when we look into the mirror: We see someone that doesn't exist: it's ourselves, all right, but tainted and filtered by our own perceptions of ourselves ... distorted most likely, and not accurate.

So, I'm sitting here, the steering wheel in front of me, this crinkled sheet of paper spread across the leather. 'Which way is north? Which way is North?! WHICH WAY IF FUCKING NORTH!?' I didn't know, there was no compass rose. Mike was goofing with me, he had to be. This was some trick map. There had to be a real one on the flip side, had to be. But no, there was no 'real' map. I was out on this god be damned middle-of-nowhere road and I had no god damn map. 'Peachy. Just peachy.' This road trip had seemed like such a great idea, and now it was just me, the road, the stars and the fraying steering wheel under my palms. 'Maybe you'll find a gas station.' So, like an idiot, I drove on, wasting gas every second I continued. But there would be no station, nothing at all, not until the...facility. 'Brilliant Pilot, brilliant.' It was a gargantuin gray building, no words, just the huge black letters; 1876 on the side. But it was all I had. The facility is all I have.

The treasure was close. We knew it. X marks the spot. Despite our proximity, the danger was still high. At least 2 other groups were after it, and they would be willing to kill for it. There were traps too, and other dangerous natural occurances. I could only dream and hope we'd find it first.

Like maps, I draw myself out for you. Here on a road a tear travels down my cheek. It makes a right and dies on my mouth. Like a map, my heart has a road from my tear. There are no lefts, no rights, no intersections. No regrets. There is no stopping of the beat which means the blood does not stop flowing through my body. It keeps going and going, just like the love I had for you in the beginning. It felt like the beginning of time when I fell in love for the first time. How my smile was so constant and my stomach was fluttering. But then came a time where I was in pain and there was no excuse of butterflies in the stomach and the smile on my lips. That is because there was no smile. And like maps, this sad, horrible, heartbreaking feeling had a beginning but like the roads, it had no end.

map, mapa. an important tool that has served mankind in many ways. maps are proof or evidence of where we've been. they give us a new dimension. they show us how small we are and how big the world is. we think so much about us and things having to do with us that sometimes we lose sense of how unimportant things are.

Wandering through the empty valley I thought I saw a shape moving with me. Unable to see clearly I kept going. It followed me over every rise and down every dip in the landscape. Never speaking to me, but always there.

I'd like to see a map of my thoughts and wander down the meandering trails into the dark glades over the deserts and mountains and through the still streams to where they meet the ocean that is my mind, and come to the daylight of my consceinceness and see what colors the sky are painted.

i wish that i could see a map. a map of my thoughts. i wish i could map out where i was going in life. then again, that would take all the fun out of it. half of the excitement of facing each new day, is not knowing what it will hold. i don't know what my thoughts hold...

A map of the ancient world hung on the wall above the ancient professor's desk. Everything about the man was ancient, from his long, silver beard to his creased, parchment-like skin to the layer of dust on the tops of his book. But despite his age and state of general decrepitude, his students respected him as the wisest professor in the department. So many of them were devastated the day he was found dead, with an ancient spear piercing his ancient heart.

I wonder if it's possible to map one's mistakes in life, and then share the map with others, so they will be able to see which routes are preferable, and which should be avoided at all costs?

I can't find the truth in the legend of my words wayword as they are. Stay because You... are... here. X

Des Moines, as seen from the air, is unremarkable. One freeway running through the center, east to west, connecting with two interstates at the perimeters. A downtown. A few suburbs, and the confluence of the Raccoon and Des Moines rivers. I lived near that confluence. I love water.

I'm just rolling with the pain, like waves on this vast black ocean. Deep dark waters cover most of the map, so I'm sailing blind, looking for a harbor. The faint light of a watchtower rolls around in the foggy night, but I cannot find its source. There's no rush, though. I've always been friends with my solitude.

Upon this map of summer hopes, I've failed. Winter sets upon us, me lying no futher than a point of referance than an apple fallen from it's tree. A kickstart, a psychologist, these things may help my perplexion with the simple everyday theme of responsibility. Lies, all lies.

It was the map that led to the cemetery where she had spent so many hours as a depressed teenager. That place where she had sat by favorite gravestones composing dark poetry and trying to sort out the mysteries of adolescence. She didn't really feel the need to go back.

i remember you saying you had a roadmap to my heart. you compared our love to a journey rather than as just a destination, rather than a place to stop and take a load off. in stark comparison, our love evolves into such twists and turns... even the creators need direction.

I need a map. I have lots of maps but I dont need them and I dont have the one I need and I dont use the ones I should. I have a map to the Safeway three blocks from Nicks house. I have a map to the liqueur aisle of the Albertsons that doesn't have security cameras. I have a map to the boys bathroom, third stall, at school. I need that map the least.

I held the map in my hand in silence. I did not know where I was going to go, but I knew that I could not stay here. They were after me. I could not remain in this place. They were going to find me anyway, so why should I not run? Give it a try at surviving, at least? The map was my only link to success at this point.

Maps, always leading making one into a follower. A guide in the world, but it is the word of our minds, hearts, neighborhoods, freeways and streetways the ways that we want to be lead? How it is that one can place so much faith in a piece of pirnted paper, but not a human soul, not the human heart? What pain can be brought by a piece of paper? What of its ink and its markings? Can they make the strong bleed? This I ask in earnest. What sort of faith is put in a piece of paper, but not your own heart?

This item tells you were to go. Unless you look at it upside down like my Uncle Mike. He and mom got lost when I was 10 and I directed us were to go because he was so bad at looking at the map. My mom was so mad at him. We like to laugh about it now. But I really remember being in the back seat with my baby brother and he had a very smelly diaper. I think that is why I could read the map so well. I had motivation.
