She wears hickeys on her neck like a string of pink pearls, a gift from her beau, relics of kisses spun visible from the passion in her lover’s breath. In French class someone says “L’amour est vraiment chere.” and she pulls down her collar to let her baby bruises show for her seatmate to see, like a bride showing off her diamond ring. Love bites…[Read more]

She sleeved her wrists in red tiger stripes
criss crossing into one million X’s, into
one millions warnings to go away,
one million chalk lines marking the time spent
living a life that was dead.

We treat others as we want to be treated.
How long must she have been pining
    to leave?

His prickly blue eyes were like lock picks in the way they sneaked up on you. When his gaze bore down on you those two tiny cyclones would silently work their way into yours and down through your pulse, creeping with each beat, quietly unlocking the chambers of your heart without you so much as realising. Only after he is gone do you realise that…[Read more]

    Lost in this desert
    I must imagine the sand
as a billion crushed up gem stones

    Still the latent sparkling
grows dull and barren to the mind
    after a while

    crumbled secrets and fragmented emotions
    drip through my veins
    like shards of glass
    pricking at my insides
    sparkling through my skin

Perhaps if all the world were made of diamonds
they would be less beautiful to us

  • Perri commented on the post, shattered 4 years ago

All I know of myself is a reflection
    scintillas of sugar snap crispness
    refracting syllables of light
    a shattered image
a crumbled figure given clarity in a sheath of crystals
    yet my vampire soul remains
    occult and thoroughly clandestine
    never denoting itself
    in photon forms

    Shards
I’m waiting for the boy like liquid nitrogen
Who freezes roses in a single caress.
    Who lets them fall
    and shatter.

    the heart
    is glass
    Your words
    made cracks
    the shards: splintered
    in my tears

    the skin
    is thin
    like cotton sheets
    your silence
    leaves me
    threadbare

    They were the hours
When we existed in wandering vines
and our separate skins crawled against one another
    and you weren’t holding me
    and I wasn’t holding you
    but still we were
    holding

I feel as if I am made of trees
And when I am with you I am a forest

And I’m just so very grateful that I can see the stars in the night sky

She is so thin. Her shoulder-blades poke out of her back like fairy winglets, a cold image of a hungry child. He imagines grand feathered things growing from the little bones, lifting his pretty alabaster baby up and away. A breeze blows. She shivers. For a brief moments, he thinks she might take flight.

I took a walk the other day, and realised

As I sat on concrete curb
Watching the spider, the original anarchist
    Sit belligerent in his nest

As I stood and wandered past the local houses
Owned by names that would be forgotten
    In 200 years

As the woollen dress on my shoulders
    Suddenly connoted a silk-soft lambie
    Plucked twice: From…[Read more]

I can sense it all from my window
    Many bodies No faces
    Many noises No voices
    Many hands No help

The deadened lights, I see it all from my window

I see it all from my window

Curling my knees into my chest
As if I wish to return to the sanctity of…[Read more]

    I see the moth and
    unthinkingly
I clap it between my palms
I feel the little death seep through my skin
As its frame falls to the table
    Sparkling silver entrails
    Like city lights

    I am horrified

She crosses out her thoughts in short relieving lines
Her arms: the pages marked with these mistakes
Adulterated screaming verses impaled with red stripes

Open up a vein and the words will flow freely,
    She finds:
She can no longer finish her sentence

He had sallow, dirty cheeks like fresh dug holes in the earth, and his skin was cold and wet. Yet he glowed despite his sickness. He smiled at me warmly and I noticed that his grass green eyes were still electric, as if his blood ran lightning. As long as I was by his side, I knew that I would be safe.

    Worlds apart
    From where my petals fell

Tripping over my feet, there’s no place for me here
I live in languages that I don’t understand

I never understood why no one ever held my hand
So I never learnt to stand

perhaps the only law of nature is that humans like to make up patterns
and the rest is just coincidence?

  • Perri commented on the post, features 4 years, 3 months ago

She was hardly a peach, the girl with the eye patch– with the blunt bangs, with the candid pout, with the bitten fingernails– indeed, nothing special. Yet, there was something about her that really struck a man like Calvin, hard. Perhaps it was her lofty expression, or the way her tiny frame stood above those of the tall men around her, but he…[Read more]

The waves rolled against the hull with a limpid cadence, he thought, feeling the voluptuous rhythm rock the deck beneath him. He lay his head against the wall, listening to the steady thrumming of the swell. Water was the planet’s blood, he was sure of it, and the tides a heartbeat.
