  1. The war vet sat on the park bench. He watched the new recruits march by and chant their cadences. He remembered those days of being young and having little fear.

  2. “Any vet would know what this contraption does, Petey.” Marco leaned in with one critical eye condemning him a liar. “Are you saying you don’t know what this is?”

  3. Ugh, the one word I hate the most, Vet. I looked into my owner’s room and heard them say this, “We may need to take her to the vet.” First, let me rewind and let me tell you my name. Hi there, my name is Akira, I am a Husky dog. Now let’s go forward to the part where I do not know how but I am in a crate on the way to the vet. Let me tell you the vet in my owner’s eyes. To my owner’s the vet is a wonderful place to get your animals to feel better. Now this is the vet in my eye’s. In my eye’s, a horrible place that smells like other animals, they give shots, a doctor for animals, and many more. Did I mention they give shots? Finally, we are at that horrible place. My owner’s, whose names are Jessie and Jericho, well they smile at me and I am thinking, ‘why are they smiling’. They take me out of the crate and before I could run like it was the zombie apocalypse, I am on a leash. So I sit down right where the car is and they drag me to the vet. Well, I may be exaggerating a little, they picked me up and brought me in. Finally I heard my name, “Akira, you’re turn.” I skid myself across the floor and I wind up in the vet room. I sit there impatiently waiting until it’s time to go. Finally, when it seems like forever, in comes the vet. I whine and growl trying to look fierce, but to be honest, scared at the same time. The vet smiles at me and says, “Hi there Akira, my name is Sunny Rose. My what a beautiful husky you have Mr. and Mrs. Snow.” My owner’s smile so bright, I knew what was coming. I closed my eyes and whined and howled. The vet, known as Dr.Rose, looked down at me and said, “Don’t worry Akira, I am just doing a check-up, no shots.” I looked at her with amazement. My owners were surprised to. Jericho said, “How did you know what she was thinking?” Dr.Rose smiled and said,” I have been around dog’s for a while then she winked at me. Maybe this doctor would’t be as bad as the other ones. She checked my ears and mouth, and made sure i was doing good at my house. The check-up was not as long as always. As I walked out of the vet room Dr.Rose said to me, “See you soon Akira.” I hope she knew I could understand her. I barked back wagging my tail and hopped in my owner’s car. Maybe the vet was not that bad at all. As we got home I ran straight to my fluffy cozy bed and fell asleep.

  4. She watched the vet stretch Snowflake out, rubbing between his little cat shoulders. Snowflake looked at her with those big yellow eyes and purred, in one of those ways where he might have been saying, “You never make me feel like this.”

  5. I like vets. I see highly of them because they should have a greater knowledge to communicate with the living beings that does not speak. I respect them. I would like to make lot of vet friends in future because I would like to have many pets in my home.

  8. It’s a vet trip. Just an ordinary visit to the veterinarian. I told myself this over and over, my tail still lashing. No one likes a vet trip, but the very idea of being poked and prodded by the vet – especially the indignity of the taking of my temperature! Well, it never sat well with me.

  11. Fitting.
    Even after the holiday.
Even after the wine, and the meat,
    And the crispy-flaked, All American
    Apple pie;
    The uniform.

    Like a well-worn leather glove,
    Perfectly, impossibly pressed.

  13. the vet told her there appeared to be nothing wrong with Mittens’ ears. “Then why does she keep shaking her head and scratching at them?” she wondered aloud. “There doesn’t seem to be anything causing it, but I can test her earwax to be sure,” the vet replied.

  14. Carmen is my cat, and she hates the vet. At least, I think she does. She’s only ever gone there twice, and the first time was to have a leg amputated… I don’t like to bring her back there if I can help it, and I figure she appreciates it too. I am thankful for what the vet was able to do for her, so she can have a long and happy life on three legs!

  15. A stumble and a limp and a fever, a little body so warm even my freezing fingers can’t seem to help. A small room reminds me that no matter how self-sufficient I try to be, someone will pay for it. But this isn’t about me, it’s the little life in my hands that might slide right through; I might lose you, too.
But this isn’t about me, it’s about the way you spend hours shaking, not eating, not even putting up a fight as doctors poke and prod at your listlessness. It’s about each labored breath, I see them rise and fall and hold my own in the pause in between.
The sensei says you’ll need medicine longer than the others, as if fate wants you in my life. Others push for transport away regardless of sickness, for her future happiness, so she won’t be alone. Each spot on the bed you now sit on with paws in every direction is already cooling like your fever; I already hear the echo of a room scream back at the sound of opening the door. But as your deep-fall eyes stare sidelong at me from a sterile table, I know even as I spoon food into your mouth I’m being saved more than you, and this is not about me. A mantra for the silence you’ll leave behind, for the albums of your face I’ll scroll through on repeat as I make the once choice to show you it’s not about me,
    It’s always been you.

  16. The vet took care of sixteen dogs today, and all of them were good puppers. Very good puppers. The best puppers ever. They got pets and scritches and belly rubs, and they were so good. The vet was very happy. She got to fix up some very good puppers. All fluffers and boofers and doggos. Yes, very good. Very good puppers. Good job, vet. Now took care of some kitties, too. Their tongues are out like blep.

  17. There it was, the picture of my daughter and I at the beach on that cloudless winter morning. The cold sand had slipped into our boots when my daughter announced that she wanted to be a vet.

It wasn’t the first time she had said it, but I never believed she would go through with it. She’d burst into tears on sight at any animal–especially dogs–starved, dying, or in pain.

When therapy didn’t work, I suggested she be something else. But my gentle suggestions: just like what happened when I talked about the boyfriend, her moving away for college, or asking her father to pay her tuition, she resisted me.

I put the picture back on the mantle. Thank God she did.

“Mom, let’s go. We’re going to be late!”

I have to go. I was the driver for Dr. Constance Ward, DVM.

  19. “You’re such an animal.” I spoke condescendingly to him fighting back a smile.

“Well in that case, could you be my vet?” He asked pouting his lips childishly with a twinkle in his eyes. An uncontrollable blush rose to my cheeks and I turned around in my seat so he wouldn’t notice.

“You’d need more help than just a vet.” I grumbled under my breath.

“What was that?” He asked and I jolted in my chair from his proximity.

“Nothing, now shut up before I put a muzzle on you!” I hissed back afraid to get caught by the teacher. I heard his low chuckle and he spoke lowly in my ear.

“Your lips are the only muzzle to silence me.”

  20. I took my dog to the vet. She’d been worrying at something in her mouth all day. Poor thing sat on her little rug by the couch and kept licking her lips and swallowing. I couldn’t see anything, so here we were. Turning on her penlight, the vet took a good look while I held the old girl steady. There was something stuck in her teeth, alright … a finger.

  21. A vet is a doctor for your animals it is where they can get shots and treatments for illnesses and diseases. It can also mean someone who fought in a war it is short for veteran.
