  1. Some people would say that tarzan was a savage because he lived in the jungle with animals. Not all animals are savage so why should tarzan be?

  2. The savage beast ran after the maiden through the dense thicket. Faster and faster he went, she was almost within reach. He could smell her breathtaking scent and was delirious with hunger and thoughts of how he would savor every morsel.

  3. you’re the greedy dragons hoarding gold
i’m amazed you lived this long–
long enough for gold to turn to paper
to turn to numbers on a screen

you’re so primitive with your atomic bombs
    to think that humanity evolved
    all these years, slowly honing
their hands and minds for kindness
only for you to throw it away

your ties are red like the blood you spilled
    and your suits black
for the ashes of those you’ve trampled
    sorry to tell you
but we have no more use for monsters

    adapt or die.

  4. Savage? That’s what Pocahontas called all the British guys in that movie. And that’s probably why savage is the meaning of something that is wild, harmful, hurtful, strange to you in some way and that can be misinterpreted as an animal behaviour, although human beings are basically animals, just a lot more powerful than, like, frogs and lemurs and stuff.

  5. And the calls of nature took his claws.

    Left broken and unspoken

    Nature took it away

    Uncertain without a doubt

    Nary without a thought

All he had left was his ‘savagery’,

    With its claws clipped.

  9. Being told that your music is ‘brutal’ or ‘savage’ is a pretty good compliment. If you’re in a death metal band, that is. When you’re trying to do Chet Baker covers on national TV, it stops sounding quite so good. Ah, well. Just say it’s avant-garde.

  10. The dust looked more trodden down here, and the long strip that stretched to the horizon seemed to have fewer plants. That wasn’t exactly a road, but it would do. He started walking it.

“If you meet anyone there,” he recalled the stranger in the pub saying, “it’ll likely be a savage.”

“There are no savages,” he replied. “There are just people you don’t yet understand.”

As the sun finally waned into the early darkness of evening, he caught whiffs of smoke.

    Now he would learn.

  11. The savagery was hard to watch, so I had to turn my head away from the screen. Lily loved horror movies, but they had never been my cup of tea. Usually, I stood my ground with her. She would poke and prod, and I would say no, because I didn’t want to have to watch people dying on screen even if they weren’t all being systematically taken out by serial killers. She didn’t take no for an answer sometimes, though, which was what left me here now, on the couch in her basement, watching some terrible movie, the name of which I didn’t even know.

  12. Alarming and precise, it took just a few strokes to eviscerate the captive.
