  1. say it.
    say it louder.
    say it clearer.
    e-nun-ci-ate. don’t whisper.
give me a list of synonyms.
    paraphrase.
write it in a letter. mail it.
    don’t forget the stamp.
    sing it, scream it.
tap it out in morse. blink.
    use an explosion.
    spray it on the walls.
tattoo it on your arms, on /my/ arms.
    hire a f-cking blimp.
hijack a billboard, spell it out in cereal.

    don’t look at me but
    say it again.

granted, it’s not me you have to convince:
    it’s my brain.
there are chemicals that want me dead
and god, are they good at their jobs.

(i think they’ll throw parties with the worms)

    so say it
    if you want to,
    if you mean it,
if it’ll kill you if you didn’t,
    but please remember:
it’s not your fault if you fail.

There was not a word that could be heard in the Etherian language, and all who heard the mumbling passed it off as madness. He was a beggar, he had no voice. He was mumbling.

    I know what they’re saying.
    They snicker, sneer.
I’m just a big joke to them.

    Why should I care?
So I’ll go on my way and try not to think
Of their mumbles that ripped at my mind.

“I said..” She gives the answer more loudly now and hates how soft and shy her voice is. Her teachers call her out all the time on her mumbling and her quietness. Her peers look at her and for a quick second and look back to our teacher, the anger slowly fades. The bell rings and she, again gets called on.

  13. mumbling
    under my breath
    as I walk away
    when did that commence?
when did our relationship become silent
    louder
more words spoken when we’re apart
    there was a time
    when you were my idol
    piggy back rides before bed

    as we walk away
    in anger
    you never hear me

  14. I mouth I love you when you aren’t looking at my lips as we drive in my car. I mumble it against your shoulder when we’re falling asleep, you with a pillow between your shoulder and your head, me on your chest, trying my hardest to melt into every tiny crack there is to occupy. I say it to my best friend when she asks me how I feel about you. I want to scream it.
